  • Thieves in Roman-occupied Israel were tried in Jewish courts, and under Jewish law were sentenced to death by stoning. Leaders of rebellions were tried in Roman courts under Roman law, and were sentenced to die a slow painful death by crucifixion. The law required that the body stay on the cross until it rotted away, and prohibited relatives from claiming the body to give it a burial.

  • Plato wrote about an Orpheus Dionysus cult which believed man was partly descended from the Titans who had eaten Dionysus. In a concept somewhat like Christian original sin, man needed to lead an ascetic life to cleanse himself. Plato in 380 BC also wrote of crucifixion of the just man. An amulet depicting Dionysus/Bacchus crucified on one side and the word Orpheus on the reverse side was in a German museum until WW II.

  • Both Jesus and Judas were martyrs executed for leading revolts against Roman rule.

  • @matzohasballs You stupid moron you dont know jack shit about the Bible. Judas was the man who betrayed our Lord and Savior to the Romans.

  • @oldtimereligionmusic The word "Savior" originally meant a man who would lead the Jews in a revolt against Roman occupation of Israel. Until Gentile cowards afraid of gettingp fed to the lions rewrote the gospels to make Christianity a religion of sheep obedient to Rome.

  • @Lhein33 But the reason why the unrighteous dead are reincarnated is that their souls need to be cleansed of the mud (pelon) that is stuck to them. "... whoever arrives uninitiated in Hades will lie in mud, but the purified and initiated when he arrives there will dwell with gods". (Socrates speaking in Plato's Phaedo 69c)

  • @billsiepmann 1. Socrates and Plato were not Orphics. They were influenced by their teachings about the soul, its immortality, the reincarnation etc but they cannot be considered orphics.

    2. The orphic movement was indeed fond of morality, but this has nothing to do with original sin. The Orphics believed that man in his life has to remain clear of sins, injustices, attachment to the material world etc to escape from the reincarnation circle. Is this similar to the original sin? Ofc not!

  • @billsiepmann You are so ignorant. Have you ever read any orphic text?

The orphics had nothing to do with original sin. The myth of the Titans simply justified their belief that man comes from gods & titans simultaneously.

Their ascetic life was not atonement, but it was based on their belief that matter, senses & material goods are something evil, inferior than the world of the souls. Christianity believes that body & soul are equal.

    Also, they believed in reincarnation.

    Conclusion: YOU FAILED

  • The story of the birth of Jesus is not borrowed from any pagan myths. The Bible says Jesus was the biological son of God but the adopted son of Joseph, who was descended from the last ruling king of the Jews. Therefore Jesus fulfills the Jewish prophecy that a king of the Jews will be born who will save the Jews by liberating them from a foreign conqueror.
