@lavthierry1 This was most assuredly not murder, this was criminal negligence. The man meant to pull his taser which would have been fully justified given the situation. It was a life and death version of grabbing the wrong tool out of a drawer. Also, the jury was not completely "White", but comprised of Asians and Latinos as well. The prosecution could have objected and gone for Black jurors.

The officer attempted to tase him, and pulled the wrong weapon. It is something that has actually happened several times before, to both White and Black suspects by both White and Black cops.

Im no fan of police officers but they should not be charged with murder/manslaughter when they use a taser on a "suspect". a taser is non-lethal by design and its obviously a lot less lethal than a 9mm bullet. sometimes "suspects" die from the tasers but those are just accidents, not murders. like what's a cop to do if using his gun is too much force and a baton is not enough? he uses his next available tool, the taser.

The ex-officer didn't use his taser, that's the whole point. He pulled out his pistol and shot a man on the ground, for no reason. His excuse is that he "meant to use the taser"... As if a taser is shaped JUST like a pistol and there's NO way he could have known he grabbed the wrong gun? I still maintain that man1 is the most that they can convict him on. While the shot may not have been a voluntary act, drawing his weapon was. And in my training (Military Police) you don't draw your weapon unless you're ready to employ deadly force.

It's inconclusive, actually, as to whether Grant was actually in cuffs. I do agree that Mehserle had no reason to pull a weapon.

But that doesn't mean he committed cold-blooded murder, either. He was a young cop, possibly scared of the chaos around him. It doesn't justify what he did, but it more or less paints him in a more sympathetic light. I honestly think he didn't mean to kill Grant--the charge should be manslaughter or negligent homicide.
