Being black isn't a choice.....acting out towards homoesexuality is a choice. A lifestyle choice. It makes me sick that people involving themselves in homosexual behavior would try to use the whole race thing. Racism should never have been around GOD loves all colors....but he does not like teh act of homoesexuality . Big difference
Too bad People of color weren't asignorant as you thought. We called you on the RACIST appropriation of the images of the civil rights. Your tactics were morally wrong and they backfired on you. It was your cultural blindness and your racism that motivated millions to vote FOR Obama and against you. It's no surprise to me that racial slurs followed the passing or prop 8 - it's just a continuation of the same ancient whiteness and entitlement. Wake up and end your racist cultural appropriation.
how could the faggot scompare what blacks went thru to what they are going thru???im part black and to compare what my dad and grandfather went thru to what fags go thru is idiotic.i dont see restrooms saying"fags only" or drinking fountains saying"fags only" did i miss something or when was the last time fags were told to sit on the back of a bus???
My point is, even religious views shift over time. At one time mixed-race marriage was viewed as sacrilegious as same-sex marriage. There was no, "Well, at least it's a man and a woman" -- it was just an abomination before God. But now everyone's cool about it.
I'm not equating the two -- I'm simply showing that religious and moral views change for the better, the more the human race evolves.
Here's the deal. Civil rights should not be confused with a sexual preference. And, marriage is a sacred union between man and woman, and should never be allowed for those that choose a sexual preference outside the God-given teachings, as given by example.
No, here's the deal: you don't know for a fact how God feels about gay marriage. There are many, many clergy who argue the opposite of you. For that reason alone, civil marriage should be left alone by religious institutions. Your church can deny performing a same-sex marriage -- that's the 1st amendment at work. But stop trying to impose your own religious view on a civil institution.
You've got it all backwords. You are trying to impose your own preferences on everyone else.... any clergy that is gay is not of God. I know the teachings of God, and being gay is not an option. Let other clergy 'argue' with me... they only preach what 'people' want to hear.. not what Jesus has taught. It's sad to see people make excuses for their personal preferences (like sex) and then expect the world to view it as 'normal' or a 'civil right'. We have an obligation to keep Gods command
1. I honestly don't know how my parents felt. They didn't mind when I had a black girlfriend.
2. I'm completely cool with mixed-race marriage.
Now... same sex marriage should never be confused with race. A man is a man and a woman is a woman... regardless of race. Don't confuse sexual preference with the color of skin.
Just curious. If there was a time machine, would you be willing to go back in time and tell/convince the people that their views of inter-racial marriage is wrong? Also, do you think these people will view you as being "liberal"?
You don't need an ultra religious view. You can strongly argue that marriage is a dying institution, so what's the harm? And you've got a point. Problem is, you're not offering or promising peace & freedom or social order, you're just demanding your trophy as society continues to step down into social chaos.
No, I'm not promising anything. Marriage may be a dying institution; I neither know whether it is in fact dying, nor do I care. All I know is this: I'm happy to be married to my wife, and I want everyone to have the same opportunity I've had. And I haven't yet heard where the danger is in that.
Everytime a gay person can't get married... they claim some form of racism. Give me a break. They chose to be gay. The know it's a sin in EVERY religion of God.. and yet they insist in changing marriage to suit their own perverted way of life. I'd be willing to donte over and over and over again to avoid allowing same-sex-marriage. Any Christian can not allow the perverts of society to redefine what 'normal' and 'natural' is. If you chose to be gay, you should chose to move away.
What are you so afraid of? Just what do you think will happen if same-sex marriage is allowed? Can I get an honest answer from any of the ultra-religious here? I want to hear you say it out loud.
For the most part, the dialogue here has been pretty civil, which I appreciate, and I comment with the hope that I can persuade the civil naysayers. For the outright homophobes, it's just kind of fun to taunt them, since I'm not going to get anywhere with them on an intellectual level.
Plus I only have one video up, so it's not like I have tons of comments to respond to...
I myself identify strongly as a Jew. And there are many, many religious people who recognize that faith is large enough to accommodate people of every stripe. I even accept that there is a large # of people who believe that homosexuality is biblically forbidden. What I object to is that people are using that religious view -- and religious tax-free money! -- to forbid civil marriage between two people of the same sex. Religion shouldn't interfere with civil law, and vice versa. That's objective.
in essence you're turning prop 8 into a campaign to hate on religion and THAT is delusion. objective thinking is what is necessary to even win over the religious. how about some objective thinking to win over the intelligent first though.
Just because i disagree with you homos does not make me a buttslut!! That stupid! Thats the answer all buttsluts give to anyone that disagrees with them!
cafe1male, in my experience, the most vitriolic people like you and yon8won above are usually in deep denial about themselves. In this case, you're probably gay and can't admit it to yourself -- or just want to shove it down so you don't have to deal with it. If we had a more open and loving society, you could be who you are and not suffer from self-hatred. Believe me when I tell you I truly hope you get the help you need.
people cant choose what race they are but people can choose there sexual oreientation. marriage is between a man and a women. how many more times are we as voters going to have to tell people who support gay marriage no it's wrong and how many more times are we as voters are going to prove it in the polls.
You don't know whether sexuality is innate or chosen. Also, as the supreme court decision states, sexuality doesn't need to be biological to be immutable, a standard of strict scrutiny. Take something you do (e.g., sleeping indoors, using electricity) that is such a basic part of your life that if the state forced you to not do it, it would be impossible for you to live with. Those are choices, not biology, but you still have a right to them. Homosexuality, biology or choice, is a civil right.
no no no... there are lots of things that aren't civil rights that are natural- incest, polygamy, prostitution, assisted suicide, etc, etc. So no there are lots of what you would consider "civil rights" that aren't in fact civil rights.
no they definitely are. If we are talking about male sexuality, a human male is created to be able to impregnate and have many mates, whereas the female isn't. Sexuality is natural and the desire to have sex with multiple female partners is natural and because of that, prostitution should be legal because it merely fulfills a natural desire. incest is natural as well; if it isn't natural, then why do some people do incest? How can you differentiate incest desires from homosexual? you can't.
The biggest problem you have though is the fact that you say it is natural. However, there is a different between naturaly-normal and natural-but improper. Natural-but improper include wanting to kill others, wanting to have sex with relatives, the desire to be promiscuous, gluttony, wanting to have sex with underage people, etc. Under that category would include homosexuality. So back to my point, natural isn't always good.
It is extremely bad form to dismiss anyone who disagrees with the imposition of changing the definition of marriage for everyone as "haters". that kind of narrow minded bigotry that says "everyone who doesn't agree with me is themselves a narrow minded bigot" is foolish, ignorant, and worst of all HURTS GAY RIGHTS. no one has the "right" to redefine the rules for a government license.
I'm not dismissing people, nor am I calling them "haters." I would argue, however, as I have in earlier comments, that there is some element of hate at work. There is a deep fear of what would happen if gay marriage were legal, and hate is born of fear.
In fact, though I wish everyone were ok with homosexuality, I don't expect that to happen. What I do object to, however, is the imposition of religion-based morality on civil law. There should not be a place for that in our society.
okay...religion has no place in this issue - sure. so what?
you're saying you wanted a litmus test on the ballot for prop 8 that asked "before you answer yes or no: is your decision based on whats best for society for cultural, child rearing and opposing judicial activism/supporting democracy purposes? or is it because of religious morality?" and disqualify any votes that answered the latter?... such a test would be unconstitutional under freedom of religion.
There are enormous differences between men and women, but there are no differences between people of different races. Men and women are inherently different, but blacks and whites (and yellows and browns) are inherently the same. Therefore, any imposed separation by race can never be moral or even rational; on the other hand, separation by sex can be both morally desirable and rational. Separate bathrooms for men and women is moral and rational; separate bathrooms for blacks and whites is not.
This is an excellent comparison. Do you have separate bathrooms for men and women in your house? Would you institute separate bathrooms in your house if a majority of the people in the state voted that you had to? Or would you feel that your constitutional rights were being infringed by the majority?
I wouldn't have to "feel" anything about my constitutional rights in such a scenario because it would in fact be an unconstitutional invasion of rights to regulate by law my private actions.
Instead of going on such a tangent though, could we get back to the issue I raised? your side question had nothing to do with the public institution of marriage for which the government issues marriage licenses that are gender specific just as public bathrooms are. focus please.
Separate bathrooms based on sex generally make sense. However, I'm not sure there are any laws barring one from using the other bathroom; it's just common courtesy that we don't. At concert venues when there are a lot of women present (e.g., I was at a Carrie Underwood concert recently -- don't ask), women frequently use the men's room. No one raises a stink. (Makes it a little weird for me to use the urinal, though.) Point is, anyone can use any bathroom. Shouldn't marriage be the same?
Marriage IS exactly the same as that analogy, yes. institutions like nightclubs, concerts and college campuses are free to make communal bathrooms if they so choose and people are free to choose to use them or not and no one cares. what is unfair, despicable and wrong is to say that thats not good enough and barge into an institution that has gender separate bathrooms and FORCE them to become communal and if they resist then you call them a bigot and a hater akin to racists.
Ah, but now we're talking about private businesses v. public institutions. A private entity, i.e., any church, would have no legal obligation to marry two people of the same sex. Government institutions, on the other hand, must answer to the needs of all the citizens.
marriage licensees are never a need. never have been a need. and thus are not a right and never have been a right. and thus judges had no business interfering on the matter which is strictly and solely the will of the people.
gays dont "need" to adopt or form civil unions either. but i support both. ive rallied for both. i would not today. not because i changed my mind, but because im tired of an entire group i hold no ill will toward calling me a hater and a bigot on par with a racist just because i resist their fascist attempt to force a definition change on society so they can feel more accepted. the push has done nothing but LOWER acceptance. way to go guys.
You're not seeing the larger picture. Does anyone need these specifics? Not one by one, no. But in the aggregate the denial of these options leads an entire group of people to feel like second-class citizens, and I do think we need to eliminate that stigma. I would argue strenuously that the state has that responsibility, especially when the argument to maintain that stigma is primarily religious in nature. (Side note: I do appreciate the civil debate we're having here -- it's a welcome change.)
that's b.s. The arguments to maintain it are not primarily religious. i don't think you look at the arguments honestly. you just try to say it's religion so you can easily bash that even though that's not even what the problem is. bigot towards the religious are you? I mean you use the word towards all who disagree with homosexual marriage, so right back at ya. And a union between two homosexuals isn't the same as one between heteros. Couldn't be. it is different so call it different.
Richie, if you don't think the arguments against gay marriage are based primarily on religious belief (even if a person who's against gay marriage isn't actually that religious), then you're just deluding yourself. Fortunately, there are a lot of people of all faiths who have a more expansive view.
no you're ignoring facts. you can't just ignore actual arguments and blame it on religion merely because most religious people do agree with it. So am I deluding myself? No. I recognize all facts, even ones for prop 8 that are harder to argue against. So you are deluding yourself but saying that only religious argumentation is pro prop 8 and then whining like a baby when that's pointed out. This argument isn't one on religion, but of ethics, psychology, sociology & science so address that stuff.
I say primarily, not solely. I haven't heard any solid pro-8 arguments based on ethics, psychology, sociology, and science. If you've got some, let's hear them.
that has nothing to do with restrooms. Issuing marriage licenses to homosexual couples affects more than just a person inside a room doin his own thing. IT affects a whole society.
if you disagree, how about you go look at the statistics of homosexual divorce rates in countries that have legalized gay marriage. Also, look at the disease rate in those choosing homosexuality verses those who have not. The top psychology shows that children flourish best in a traditional home. Homosexuality was only taken out of the dsm b/c of political reasons, as in, it used to be considered a psychological disorder. there was no psychological evidence to disprove that and lots for it.
bottom line is though is that even if i were to give you all the citations for my claims, you wouldn't look at them so all i can do is suggest you study it on your own and be objective about it. You would be surprised.
I can back it up. I implore you to look it up. this isn't the place for me to post a ton of citations proving my point, especially considering that I can only have 400 characters a post. I have told you the truth, you can look it up if you are interested.
Furthermore, I have told you the truth, how about you show me or tell me scientific, psychological, statistical/sociological proofs that show otherwise.
If you were objective in your thinking, you would recognize that there are viable arguments contrary to your assertions. Ignoring them or denying that there are any does not strengthen your side but rather makes you less credible. That's basic argumentation.
i am glad prop 8 got a big YES. we don't need that shit in America. it would be bad for children and bad for our country. so glad it got a big fat YES to ban it.
this is straight ignorance. one cannot compare race with sexuality. And what's this bullshit that people who practice homosexuality don't have the same rights as other people?! They can marry anyone of the opposite sex just like everyone else.
You're absolutely right, Richie: that is straight ignorance.
It has been amazing to see how the anti-gay-marriage commenters here pretty much all have demonstrated my point for me, over and over. I can't wait for you all to see yourselves 40 years from now; you will be shocked and ashamed of yourselves.
who the fuck gives us the right to choose for other people? "keep marrage between and man and a woman" how fucking selfish can you be? what happened to separation of church and state? what happened to freedom of religion? what the fuck happened to freedom? so if you're a white christian straight male you have freedom but if you're not and you're gay you all of a sudden aren't allowed your rights? fucking backwoods rightwinged christians. you're the real terrorists
ponygoat666 : sounds like a bunch of loser talk to me. An amendment was put to a vote and more people voted for it than against it so F YOU!! You talk about "freedoms" but what about the freedom to vote any fucking way you please? I am not a religious person but I supported Prop 8 so I don't see how I could have violated separation of church and state. Even if I were religious there is no law against voting with a religious intent. So go cry now you poorly educated socialist wiener.
thediesel2: the mormon and catholic church had a major hand in promoting prop 8 ( should never been on the bill ) why take the right away from gay people? why couldn't we leave things the way they were? were they hampering you from anything by marrying whom they choose? were they hurting you? were they taking your tax dollars? were they doing anything to you? NO.
Personal choice of what? All you str8 people make all these lies and fears you harbor about gay people. WTF ! As ive told the other ignorant str8's - i did not choose to be gay (nor did you choose to be str8) The one choice i will admit making, is the choice to accept it - be happy and move on. Do you think you str8's can get that str'8 in your head. WTF !!
I'm sure gay america will fight this, as they should. How about starting with a ban on Utah and their fucking mormon horde of failure from ever infesting their brainless stupidity on other more progressive states like ours? I'd vote yes on that proposition in a milisecond
What i dont understand is Hateroes claim gays are imposing their lifestye on them. Ive never once had gay person come to my door trying to convert me, or anyone else i know. But you do notice the mormons and jehovah witnesses conservative MF's who are the most holly people on earth, go door to door trying to do what?........impose their chicken shit beliefs. Now whos imposing on who!!!
Its not the "peoples" right to dictate rights to other Americans. If that was the case, then we never would of gotten out of Americas dark days.
It's about an individual's right. You nor anyone else will be able to supress it. And at the end of the day, the Constitution will win, and hate and bigotry will lose.
Their rights on you ?? You miserable slug, on what grounds exactly do you find that THEIR FREEDOM to marry should be LESS than yours?
If you say it's unnatural, go live in a fucking tent in the forest. If you say "the bible", shove it up your ass. If you say anything else, also shove it up your ass.
You have no right to discriminate and restrict freedom. Period.
I wish to say DEATH TO REDNECK AMERICA, but I will say something even worse instead:
Vote No on 8, i wish i could see how mad you will be when 8 does not pass. To bad you wont ever know im gay, im masculine to be detectable. So you cant hunt me down. By the way i dont have a gay agenda, i dont have sex with animals, i dont wear (im gay) on my forhead, and last but not least i dont have aids. from a undectable gay guy VOTE NO ON 8!!
And you have your own neighborhoods, and bars and restaurants, and companies, and your own flag so keep to yourselves and stop dictating your lifestyles on others who may not agree with you.
It is the intolerant HOMO elite that call anything that stands in their way hate, you girls are pathetic
If anyone here is intolerant here its you. Me a homosexual? no. I've got a boyfriend dumb ass and I'm a girl. Not allowing homosexuals the right to get married but allow heterosexuals the right to marry is against equal rights and. the Constitution. No matter what you say or think it is in fact discrimination and and unfair rights. And they're not 'dictating' you people who can't mind your own business are so what the bible says 'marriage is between and a man and woman' this is not a Christian..
country people mostly only want prop 8 to be passed is because of a few verses in a bible. Voting yes on prop 8 is going against what American stands for: freedom.
History will definitely be on our side. I think this is one of the issues where the Christian Church will eventually have to apologize for being wrong. Hey, we're all human. Just because God is perfect doesn't mean we perfectly understand God.
Please read something that PRE-DATES the bible. The bible is a nothing but a version of something else. It just became popular because a thing called church came along. Stop preaching bible JUNK. There is plenty that PRE-DATES!!! NO ON PROP 8.
where does the bible actually say homosexuality is a sin? like can someone send me a passage or something, because i'm having trouble finding a real one that condemns homosexuality.
Vote YES on Prop 8. It restores the definition of marriage to what the majority of California voters already approved and what they agree should be supported. It overturns the outrageous decision of 4 activist Court judges who ignored the voters. It protects children from being taught in school that same-sex marriage is the same as traditional marriage, and prevents consequences to Californians who will be forced to be tolerant of gay lifestyles, regardless of their beliefs.
You're proving my point for me: majorities change over time. 40 years ago, majorities approved of criminalizing mixed-race marriage. 50 years ago, majorities approved of segregation. 60 years ago, majorities approved of internment camps. Majorities change as we evolve. You're now part of a shrinking minority. And 40 years from now, I bet you'll wonder how you were in favor of Prop 8 today.
Oh, for God's sake, stop acting like a mouthpiece. Prop 8 should've never been put on the ballot. The judges allowed gay marriage to become legal because Prop 22 endorsed discrimination based on sexual orientation - not legal here in California!
You sound exactly like those stupid, fear-mongering Yes on 8 commercials. Be an individual, not a sheep. It's pathetic.
I don't think it's right for anyone to tell a homosexual that what they are doing is a sin because no matter what, we as human beings are always going to commit sin and it's stupid for anyone to try and make this issue about sin when it should be about equality!
it's is a sin , to just walk by someone an not remind them that there soul is worth more than just sleeping with who ever you what would be a sin on my part......
1st of all i will be so glad when all this os over, no matter which way prop 8 turns out. Given the fact the Bible says homosexuality is a sin, but so is a lot of other things the heterosexuals brush under the carpet. And you dont see them being condemed to hell and their rights taken away. Case and point, you cannot take a little piece of the bible and not care about the rest of it. REMEMBER ALL SINS ARE CREATED EQUAL
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sorry, but homosexuality does not belong in the same category as these other cases of discrimination, because unlike these other cases, people are born with a particular race.
No one is born gay because newborns can't distinguish between male and female.
Homosexuality is a choice that people make because either they hate God, or television and media tricks them into believing they are gay.
Believe what you will, but please do not go so low as to compare this to racism.
How do you know people arent born gay? I want you try something. if its a choice then tomorow i want you to decide to be gay for the day. By the way i do go to church, so there one of your theories. And you know theres just tons of gay shit all over the TV's its no wonder your not gay. You sure are smart. You just hit nail with a hammer.
Are you black and gay like I am? If you're not, then you don't deserve to speak on this issue. It's one thing to theorize; it's another to live it.
If being gay is a "choice", then heterosexuality must be. Think about it. The only people who can come close to see a "choice" are those born bisexual, and even then that's a stretch.
Sexual orientation is not a choice. People do not choose to be attracted to men or women. Something is definitely causing it. We still don't know what causes left-handed or right-handedness for certain. It is one of life's mystery.
I think we gay people are getting angry about this and if it does get passed, im thinking riots and boycotts and its going to hurt the economy more than it already is. Vote No on 08!!
I will always be gay, not by choice. The only choice i made is to accept it - be happy and move on. Should get aids, should i be mentaly instable, should i do drugs, should i have a different partner everyday, should not give a shit about myself, simply because soiciety does not approve. Be down on myself what the fuck should gay people do. Repent and it will all go away? Maybe we should all be put on an island to wilt away and die?
To the Heterosexuals that use the bible to condem Homosexuals. You cannot take a little bit of what the bible says about gays, and leave the rest. If your going preach that but not live your life word for word of the Bible, then you have no right to use the Bible as a crutch for your fear. Everyone is a sinner in their own way, and people are protesting gays for being sinners, then why not protest other causes of sin. REMEMBER THE BIBLE SAYS ALL SINS ARE CREATED EQUAL.
To your comment I would like to respond with this: You're absolutely right- we SHOULD protest EVERY kind of sin- if we can, eradicate it completely. So, why leave one sin out?
One you thing you need to realize, about eraticating sin, it would be impossible to do so. God died for our sins, and God did not make Humans to be perfect. So there for eraticating all sin would be impossible. I often dont think people are realistic about their opinions. And everyone does form their own opinions. In fact to there are to many opinions. And where do you draw a line to say whos opinion is right or wrong, since everyone thinks they are right.
And one thing you need to realize is this: just because God forgave us of our sins does not mean that we as born again Christians are allowed to bask in the blissfulness of sin. He died for our sins; that was for eternal life. In this life we constantly struggle with sin- this can not be refuted. On top of that, God COMMANDS us to combat sin with the fruits of the spirit, etc. What a slap in the face to God it would be to be forgiven and then continue a life of sin. I said TRY to eradicate it.
Maybe people should protest other sins, make signs or do something to take away from the gay people. To show that they are "in fact" protesting sin to show gays are not the only ones being targeted.
I will tell you one thing, i am a good person. No one !! is going to tell me that i am less than a str8 person. I dont care who the fuck they are. I have the same wants and desires as anyone else. I am not seeking special rights nor am i throwing being gay at some str8 person(s) and i DO NOT HAVE A GAY FUCKING AGENDA.
Listen man, I don't think by any means that you are a lesser person than anyone else because you are gay. Let each person be judged by their character, right! In fact, I apologize up front if I sound like I'm intolerant of gays. I just want to combat sin, and I only wish people would have the courage do hold up signs protesting every kind of sin! What a glorious day that would be.. But seriously, I am sorry for any persecution you may endure. We're all in this together.
bbell thanks for your comment. I do have very strong anger. Im not some pansy femm queen. (No offense) This is a bad time to approve gays being married. It only creates hostility/anger between str8 and gay people. And with the economy fucked up as it is, its bad timing. I personaly wished it would just go away. Looking around at all the YES AND NO'S. Makes me mad and less trusting of str8 people.
Being gay is not inherently sinful, just as being black or being a woman is not inherently sinful. Most Christians appear to have this mental incapacitation where they are unable to dislodge sexual orientation from sexual behavior. Until this happens, it's like they're stuck in kindergarten.
We've all heard of the saying, "God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve." Then who created Steve? Most would conclude God did. To which one blogger explains, "... the creation stories in Genesis were never intended to be the first and last word about the creation."
And African americans are a race... are homosexuals their own race...? How does segregation of a race compare to not allowing men to marry each other or women to marry each other.
Also interracial marriage has nothing in common with homosexual marriage.
And African americans are a race... are homosexuals their own race...? How does segregation of a race compare to not allowing men to marry each other or women to marry each other.

Race and sexual orientation are two completely different concepts. So one can't compare them in that respect. However, the whole movement behind social justice and equality is the concept that there are intrinsic properties of being a human, such as race and sex for example, which should be not legally discriminated. The debate society is having now is whether sexual orientation falls under the intrinsic properties as well.
My personal opinion is that it does fall. It's going to take a lot of time for people to come to this conclusion, but I know they will. Personally, it took me several years. But once people have this revelation, they will realize why it is such an important movement. But until then it will seem very strange or bizarre. I hope this helps anyone who is reading.
of course I wouldn't do any of the horrible things listed in the video. but I would vote yes on prop 8, for the protection of a lasting, sacred institution
What exactly are you protecting? Why is it sacred, and why wouldn't a marriage between two loving people of the same sex be just as sacred? When you answer that question honestly and go all the way to the root of the answer, I think you'll have to admit that you don't think there should be same-sex couples at all.
Hate often arises from deep-seated fears. The historical examples I cite are extreme examples. Please don't give in to your fears. Be brave and vote no, or at least don't vote yes.
I told you what is being protected- traditional marriage. If same-sex couples want their own form of union, heck, they can go for it. It's called civil union. Is that not sacred enough? Also, I believe homosexuality is a sin, and it is not up to me- it's up to God. This does NOT mean I in any way fear or hate homosexuals. I love them, as God also tells us to do. I do, however, strongly disagree with their lifestyle. If my son were to engage in disobedience, I would revoke a privilege of his.
1. Would you also be willing to protect traditional marriage by banning divorce?
2. Is divorce also a sin?
3. Do you also strongly disagree with people's lifestyle of divorce and remarriage?
Your answer should be yes on all 3. If it isn't, then it's a hypocrisy. I definitely believe hypocrisy is a sin, but it's not up to me. It's up to God. This does not mean I hate or fear hypocrites in any way. I truly do love them, as God tells us to love everyone.
That is a very tough question, and to make it as black and white as possible, I would of course say, yes, in a perfect world. However, I do believe that if in a marriage there is some sort of abuse taking place that does not cease, it is not a sin to make sure that the victim is protected by voiding the marriage in a divorce. I mean really, the abusive partner in the relationship has already breached his or her covet made at the start of the marriage, making that person the original sinner.
There are many poor, selfish reasons for getting a divorce. I also want to throw out there that I am a hypocrite in many ways, I don't claim to be perfect. Anyone who denies himself to be a hypocrite is making quite a bold, almost irreverent statement.
its not about hate. its about protection. using the word "hate" is a quick cop out for when liberals are defending their morally relative ideals, like universal entitlement for EVERYTHING. you wouldn't give a child the right to drive. you wouldn't give a satanist the right to a bar mitzvah. heres the deal: all men are CREATED equal (as in our humanity), but clearly, each of us is different and unique. enough comparing apples to oranges, people.

My point is, even religious views shift over time. At one time mixed-race marriage was viewed as sacrilegious as same-sex marriage. There was no, "Well, at least it's a man and a woman" -- it was just an abomination before God. But now everyone's cool about it.
I'm not equating the two -- I'm simply showing that religious and moral views change for the better, the more the human race evolves.
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago 2
Here's the deal. Civil rights should not be confused with a sexual preference. And, marriage is a sacred union between man and woman, and should never be allowed for those that choose a sexual preference outside the God-given teachings, as given by example.
glbrickman 3 years ago
No, here's the deal: you don't know for a fact how God feels about gay marriage. There are many, many clergy who argue the opposite of you. For that reason alone, civil marriage should be left alone by religious institutions. Your church can deny performing a same-sex marriage -- that's the 1st amendment at work. But stop trying to impose your own religious view on a civil institution.
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
You've got it all backwords. You are trying to impose your own preferences on everyone else.... any clergy that is gay is not of God. I know the teachings of God, and being gay is not an option. Let other clergy 'argue' with me... they only preach what 'people' want to hear.. not what Jesus has taught. It's sad to see people make excuses for their personal preferences (like sex) and then expect the world to view it as 'normal' or a 'civil right'. We have an obligation to keep Gods command
glbrickman 3 years ago
Let me ask you two questions, and answer honestly:
1. How did your parents feel about mixed-race marriage 40 years ago? Was that too an abomination before God?
2. How do you feel about mixed-race marriage today?
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
Here's my answers.
1. I honestly don't know how my parents felt. They didn't mind when I had a black girlfriend.
2. I'm completely cool with mixed-race marriage.
Now... same sex marriage should never be confused with race. A man is a man and a woman is a woman... regardless of race. Don't confuse sexual preference with the color of skin.
glbrickman 3 years ago
glbrickman,
Just curious. If there was a time machine, would you be willing to go back in time and tell/convince the people that their views of inter-racial marriage is wrong? Also, do you think these people will view you as being "liberal"?
truthdefender7 3 years ago
Is any clergy that is divorced not of God either? I'm curious as to your response.

being gay is not a choice
idaman12345 2 years ago
You don't need an ultra religious view. You can strongly argue that marriage is a dying institution, so what's the harm? And you've got a point. Problem is, you're not offering or promising peace & freedom or social order, you're just demanding your trophy as society continues to step down into social chaos.
BRSCAL 3 years ago
No, I'm not promising anything. Marriage may be a dying institution; I neither know whether it is in fact dying, nor do I care. All I know is this: I'm happy to be married to my wife, and I want everyone to have the same opportunity I've had. And I haven't yet heard where the danger is in that.
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
Everytime a gay person can't get married... they claim some form of racism. Give me a break. They chose to be gay. The know it's a sin in EVERY religion of God.. and yet they insist in changing marriage to suit their own perverted way of life. I'd be willing to donte over and over and over again to avoid allowing same-sex-marriage. Any Christian can not allow the perverts of society to redefine what 'normal' and 'natural' is. If you chose to be gay, you should chose to move away.
glbrickman 3 years ago
What are you so afraid of? Just what do you think will happen if same-sex marriage is allowed? Can I get an honest answer from any of the ultra-religious here? I want to hear you say it out loud.
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago

you choose to be ignorant
you dont choose to be a homosexual
idaman12345 2 years ago
That's because I'm an arrogant prick.
For the most part, the dialogue here has been pretty civil, which I appreciate, and I comment with the hope that I can persuade the civil naysayers. For the outright homophobes, it's just kind of fun to taunt them, since I'm not going to get anywhere with them on an intellectual level.

That's objective.
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
in essence you're turning prop 8 into a campaign to hate on religion and THAT is delusion. objective thinking is what is necessary to even win over the religious. how about some objective thinking to win over the intelligent first though.

Anyone who wants to know what will happen with gay marriage should take a look at 1967's Loving vs. Virginia.
Same deal, same intellectually-challenged religious bigots claiming it's against god's way.
Gay marriage will be legal, the sky will not fall, and all those who were against it will shut the fuck up, just like with interracial marriage.
The result will be the same, guaranteed.

cafe1male, in my experience, the most vitriolic people like you and yon8won above are usually in deep denial about themselves. In this case, you're probably gay and can't admit it to yourself -- or just want to shove it down so you don't have to deal with it. If we had a more open and loving society, you could be who you are and not suffer from self-hatred. Believe me when I tell you I truly hope you get the help you need.

danthetinman916 3 years ago 4
You don't know whether sexuality is innate or chosen. Also, as the supreme court decision states, sexuality doesn't need to be biological to be immutable, a standard of strict scrutiny. Take something you do (e.g., sleeping indoors, using electricity) that is such a basic part of your life that if the state forced you to not do it, it would be impossible for you to live with. Those are choices, not biology, but you still have a right to them. Homosexuality, biology or choice, is a civil right.
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
no no no... there are lots of things that aren't civil rights that are natural- incest, polygamy, prostitution, assisted suicide, etc, etc. So no there are lots of what you would consider "civil rights" that aren't in fact civil rights.
richie0801 3 years ago
incest polygamy prostitution and assisted suicide, natural? not
idaman12345 2 years ago
no they definitely are. How can you differentiate incest desires from homosexual? you can't.
richie0801 2 years ago
The biggest problem you have though is the fact that you say it is natural. However, there is a different between naturaly-normal and natural-but improper. Natural-but improper include wanting to kill others, wanting to have sex with relatives, the desire to be promiscuous, gluttony, wanting to have sex with underage people, etc. Under that category would include homosexuality. So back to my point, natural isn't always good.
richie0801 2 years ago
It is extremely bad form to dismiss anyone who disagrees with the imposition of changing the definition of marriage for everyone as "haters". that kind of narrow minded bigotry that says "everyone who doesn't agree with me is themselves a narrow minded bigot" is foolish, ignorant, and worst of all HURTS GAY RIGHTS. no one has the "right" to redefine the rules for a government license.
videoLies 3 years ago 6
I'm not dismissing people, nor am I calling them "haters." I would argue, however, as I have in earlier comments, that there is some element of hate at work. There is a deep fear of what would happen if gay marriage were legal, and hate is born of fear.
In fact, though I wish everyone were ok with homosexuality, I don't expect that to happen. What I do object to, however, is the imposition of religion-based morality on civil law. There should not be a place for that in our society.
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
okay...religion has no place in this issue - sure. so what?
you're saying you wanted a litmus test on the ballot for prop 8 that asked "before you answer yes or no: is your decision based on whats best for society for cultural, child rearing and opposing judicial activism/supporting democracy purposes? or is it because of religious morality?" and disqualify any votes that answered the latter?... such a test would be unconstitutional under freedom of religion.
mediamorons 3 years ago 6
Kind of a loaded question, don't you think? ;)
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
There are enormous differences between men and women, but there are no differences between people of different races. Men and women are inherently different, but blacks and whites (and yellows and browns) are inherently the same. Therefore, any imposed separation by race can never be moral or even rational; on the other hand, separation by sex can be both morally desirable and rational. Separate bathrooms for men and women is moral and rational; separate bathrooms for blacks and whites is not.
videoLies 3 years ago 5
This is an excellent comparison. Do you have separate bathrooms for men and women in your house? Would you institute separate bathrooms in your house if a majority of the people in the state voted that you had to? Or would you feel that your constitutional rights were being infringed by the majority?
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
I wouldn't have to "feel" anything about my constitutional rights in such a scenario because it would in fact be an unconstitutional invasion of rights to regulate by law my private actions.
Instead of going on such a tangent though, could we get back to the issue I raised? your side question had nothing to do with the public institution of marriage for which the government issues marriage licenses that are gender specific just as public bathrooms are. focus please.
videoLies 3 years ago 6
Separate bathrooms based on sex generally make sense. However, I'm not sure there are any laws barring one from using the other bathroom; it's just common courtesy that we don't. At concert venues when there are a lot of women present (e.g., I was at a Carrie Underwood concert recently -- don't ask), women frequently use the men's room. No one raises a stink. (Makes it a little weird for me to use the urinal, though.) Point is, anyone can use any bathroom. Shouldn't marriage be the same?
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
Marriage IS exactly the same as that analogy, yes. institutions like nightclubs, concerts and college campuses are free to make communal bathrooms if they so choose and people are free to choose to use them or not and no one cares. what is unfair, despicable and wrong is to say that thats not good enough and barge into an institution that has gender separate bathrooms and FORCE them to become communal and if they resist then you call them a bigot and a hater akin to racists.
videoLies 3 years ago 5
Ah, but now we're talking about private businesses v. public institutions. A private entity, i.e., any church, would have no legal obligation to marry two people of the same sex. Government institutions, on the other hand, must answer to the needs of all the citizens.
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
OOPS. you gave yourself away there...
the "needs" of all citizens.
marriage licensees are never a need. never have been a need. and thus are not a right and never have been a right. and thus judges had no business interfering on the matter which is strictly and solely the will of the people.
videoLies 3 years ago 4
gays dont "need" to adopt or form civil unions either. but i support both. ive rallied for both. i would not today. not because i changed my mind, but because im tired of an entire group i hold no ill will toward calling me a hater and a bigot on par with a racist just because i resist their fascist attempt to force a definition change on society so they can feel more accepted. the push has done nothing but LOWER acceptance. way to go guys.
videoLies 3 years ago 2
You're not seeing the larger picture. Does anyone need these specifics? Not one by one, no. But in the aggregate the denial of these options leads an entire group of people to feel like second-class citizens, and I do think we need to eliminate that stigma. I would argue strenuously that the state has that responsibility, especially when the argument to maintain that stigma is primarily religious in nature. (Side note: I do appreciate the civil debate we're having here -- it's a welcome change.)
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
Couldn't be. it is different so call it different.
richie0801 3 years ago
Richie, if you don't think the arguments against gay marriage are based primarily on religious belief (even if a person who's against gay marriage isn't actually that religious), then you're just deluding yourself. Fortunately, there are a lot of people of all faiths who have a more expansive view.
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
no you're ignoring facts. you can't just ignore actual arguments and blame it on religion merely because most religious people do agree with it. So am I deluding myself? No. I recognize all facts, even ones for prop 8 that are harder to argue against. So you are deluding yourself but saying that only religious argumentation is pro prop 8 and then whining like a baby when that's pointed out. This argument isn't one on religion, but of ethics, psychology, sociology & science so address that stuff.
richie0801 3 years ago
I say primarily, not solely. I haven't heard any solid pro-8 arguments based on ethics, psychology, sociology, and science. If you've got some, let's hear them.
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
that has nothing to do with restrooms. Issuing marriage licenses to homosexual couples affects more than just a person inside a room doin his own thing. IT affects a whole society.
richie0801 3 years ago
really care to go into how it would?
idaman12345 2 years ago
if you disagree, how about you go look at the statistics of homosexual divorce rates in countries that have legalized gay marriage. Also, look at the disease rate in those choosing homosexuality verses those who have not. The top psychology shows that children flourish best in a traditional home. Homosexuality was only taken out of the dsm b/c of political reasons, as in, it used to be considered a psychological disorder. there was no psychological evidence to disprove that and lots for it.
richie0801 2 years ago
bottom line is though is that even if i were to give you all the citations for my claims, you wouldn't look at them so all i can do is suggest you study it on your own and be objective about it. You would be surprised.
richie0801 2 years ago
right ok, dont make accusations you cant back up
idaman12345 2 years ago
I can back it up. I implore you to look it up. this isn't the place for me to post a ton of citations proving my point, especially considering that I can only have 400 characters a post. I have told you the truth, you can look it up if you are interested.
richie0801 2 years ago
Furthermore, I have told you the truth, how about you show me or tell me scientific, psychological, statistical/sociological proofs that show otherwise.
richie0801 2 years ago
If you were objective in your thinking, you would recognize that there are viable arguments contrary to your assertions. Ignoring them or denying that there are any does not strengthen your side but rather makes you less credible. That's basic argumentation.

It's pathetic.
busterbeeps 3 years ago
I don't think it's right for anyone to tell a homosexual that what they are doing is a sin because no matter what, we as human beings are always going to commit sin and it's stupid for anyone to try and make this issue about sin when it should be about equality!
No on prop 8
stefers08 3 years ago
it's is a sin , to just walk by someone an not remind them that there soul is worth more than just sleeping with who ever you what would be a sin on my part......

Couldn't agree more. Well said.

How do you know people arent born gay? I want you try something. if its a choice then tomorow i want you to decide to be gay for the day. By the way i do go to church, so there one of your theories. And you know theres just tons of gay shit all over the TV's its no wonder your not gay. You sure are smart. You just hit nail with a hammer.
mannboy7 3 years ago
Are you black and gay like I am? If you're not, then you don't deserve to speak on this issue. It's one thing to theorize; it's another to live it.
If being gay is a "choice", then heterosexuality must be. Think about it. The only people who can come close to see a "choice" are those born bisexual, and even then that's a stretch.
greling 3 years ago
Sexual orientation is not a choice. People do not choose to be attracted to men or women. Something is definitely causing it. We still don't know what causes left-handed or right-handedness for certain. It is one of life's mystery.

Maybe we should all be put on an island to wilt away and die?
mannboy7 3 years ago
To the Heterosexuals that use the bible to condem Homosexuals. You cannot take a little bit of what the bible says about gays, and leave the rest. If your going preach that but not live your life word for word of the Bible, then you have no right to use the Bible as a crutch for your fear. Everyone is a sinner in their own way, and people are protesting gays for being sinners, then why not protest other causes of sin. REMEMBER THE BIBLE SAYS ALL SINS ARE CREATED EQUAL.
mannboy7 3 years ago
To your comment I would like to respond with this: You're absolutely right- we SHOULD protest EVERY kind of sin- if we can, eradicate it completely. So, why leave one sin out?
bbellcamp 3 years ago
One you thing you need to realize, about eraticating sin, it would be impossible to do so. God died for our sins, and God did not make Humans to be perfect. So there for eraticating all sin would be impossible. I often dont think people are realistic about their opinions. And everyone does form their own opinions. In fact to there are to many opinions. And where do you draw a line to say whos opinion is right or wrong, since everyone thinks they are right.
mannboy7 3 years ago
And one thing you need to realize is this: just because God forgave us of our sins does not mean that we as born again Christians are allowed to bask in the blissfulness of sin. He died for our sins; that was for eternal life. In this life we constantly struggle with sin- this can not be refuted. On top of that, God COMMANDS us to combat sin with the fruits of the spirit, etc. What a slap in the face to God it would be to be forgiven and then continue a life of sin. I said TRY to eradicate it.
bbellcamp 3 years ago
Maybe people should protest other sins, make signs or do something to take away from the gay people. To show that they are "in fact" protesting sin to show gays are not the only ones being targeted.
mannboy7 3 years ago
I will tell you one thing, i am a good person. No one !! is going to tell me that i am less than a str8 person. I dont care who the fuck they are. I have the same wants and desires as anyone else. I am not seeking special rights nor am i throwing being gay at some str8 person(s) and i DO NOT HAVE A GAY FUCKING AGENDA.
mannboy7 3 years ago

Makes me mad and less trusting of str8 people.
mannboy7 3 years ago
Being gay is not inherently sinful, just as being black or being a woman is not inherently sinful. Most Christians appear to have this mental incapacitation where they are unable to dislodge sexual orientation from sexual behavior. Until this happens, it's like they're stuck in kindergarten.

Very powerful ad that included to talking! Great job and I will be telling my friends to vote NO on 8!!!

God created man and woman -- not man and man or woman and woman -- to procreate this world, with life beginning at the moment of conception!
Marriage is only for man and women.
Vote yes on prop 8.

These issues do not apply.
This is also a completely mute reference.

I hope this helps anyone who is reading.

of course I wouldn't do any of the horrible things listed in the video. but I would vote yes on prop 8, for the protection of a lasting, sacred institution
bbellcamp 3 years ago
What exactly are you protecting? Why is it sacred, and why wouldn't a marriage between two loving people of the same sex be just as sacred? When you answer that question honestly and go all the way to the root of the answer, I think you'll have to admit that you don't think there should be same-sex couples at all.
Hate often arises from deep-seated fears. The historical examples I cite are extreme examples. Please don't give in to your fears. Be brave and vote no, or at least don't vote yes.
cheshireisaacs 3 years ago
I told you what is being protected- traditional marriage. If same-sex couples want their own form of union, heck, they can go for it. It's called civil union. Is that not sacred enough? Also, I believe homosexuality is a sin, and it is not up to me- it's up to God. This does NOT mean I in any way fear or hate homosexuals. I love them, as God also tells us to do. I do, however, strongly disagree with their lifestyle. If my son were to engage in disobedience, I would revoke a privilege of his.
bbellcamp 3 years ago
Just curious.
I truly do love them, as God tells us to love everyone.
truthdefender7 3 years ago
That is a very tough question, and to make it as black and white as possible, I would of course say, yes, in a perfect world. However, I do believe that if in a marriage there is some sort of abuse taking place that does not cease, it is not a sin to make sure that the victim is protected by voiding the marriage in a divorce. I mean really, the abusive partner in the relationship has already breached his or her covet made at the start of the marriage, making that person the original sinner.
bbellcamp 3 years ago
There are many poor, selfish reasons for getting a divorce. I also want to throw out there that I am a hypocrite in many ways, I don't claim to be perfect. Anyone who denies himself to be a hypocrite is making quite a bold, almost irreverent statement.
bbellcamp 3 years ago
its not about hate. its about protection. using the word "hate" is a quick cop out for when liberals are defending their morally relative ideals, like universal entitlement for EVERYTHING. you wouldn't give a child the right to drive. you wouldn't give a satanist the right to a bar mitzvah. heres the deal: all men are CREATED equal (as in our humanity), but clearly, each of us is different and unique. enough comparing apples to oranges, people.
