  • The girl is really good, but the guy is kinda wierddd.

  • she IS NOT believable!

  • A good "what not to do" for my next recital. She went from singing to screaming, then back to singing. Then the guy must have stepped on her foot during the last note.

  • the last note is dreadful!

  • HUNTER IS FLAWLESS

  • omg it's bobby strong! wait, but he was pushed off a building... O.o

  • Hunter Foster is perfect for this role! I also saw him in Frankenstein off-Broadway. He was awesome!

  • Hunter totally looks like Trent Dawson in this clip. Too cute.

And he's SUTTON'S BROTHER! All that talent really runs in the family!

  • This was a great guide. This is the tryout song for my high school's production. XD

  • Why does it matter who sang the clunker at the end? This was a long time ago for Kerry. I saw her in CMIYC and she was beyond amazing.

  • SUTTON'S BROTHER!

  • The last note was foul. It took her too long to hit it. Yuck.

  • amazing performance! Kerry butler and Hunter Foster <33333 its like peanut butter and jelly

  • I love Hunter Foster! :)

  • Love this song.

  • Was the awful note the word, "MAN??"

  • @iluvlittleshop921 Yes. They sang, "Seymour's your man!" I thought they were awesome until that note...

  • No one appriciates Hunter and Kerry as much as they should. My favourite actor and actress, easily *-* ♥♥

  • That was awful!

  • I don't give a fuck about the last note. Kerry Butler is amazing.

  • Kerry Butler is fucking awful

  • Could we take Ellen's acting and Kerry's voice and schlump it all together? That would be awesome.

  • The last note was absolutely one of the backup singers. Kerry's mouth wasn't shaped in a way that could have produced a vowel that bright.

  • It was a soulless performance. Beautifully sung, but with no personality. A lot of performers could have done what they did.

Ellen Greene has a kooky singing voice, but she brings life to the performance. Same with Rick Morranis. They both brought life to the parts.

  • The last note that everyone is talking about was one of the back up singers. And if you were to listen to that singer alone it probably wasn't that bad.. it just didn't blend with the rest.

  • that sour note isnt Kerry it's a backup singer.

  • That last note is horrible!!

  • It amuses me that all of these random kids think they know better than these Broadway professionals. Yes the last note was way off but the whole rest of it was phenomenal.

  • That's sutton foster's brother....

  • this is awful. what's broadway come to? they can't act. and the singing's so bland. It's sad that the Ellen Greene's of the theatre world aren't being used anymore.

  • @CoraJAnderson I totally Agree with you, The only GREAT actress with a powerhouse voice like Ellen on the broadway stage today is Alice Ripley in my opinion..... So many just fall flat

  • Ooch! Sorry but not good.

  • Sorry this is an awful performance by 'professionals'. It seems all about the singing where it should be about the acting just as much.

  • omg i does seem tht flat note was hers but it wasnt it was a backup singer

  • You should see Ariana Grande and Frankie Grande sing this. WHOA.

  • @NataliesLegitt Suddenly frankie was amazing. :)

  • This Seymour's creepy.

  • That last note was awful.

  • The last note- ouch!

  • MAAAAAaaaAAAAaaaaAAAAAAAAAaanNNNNnnN

  • that was embarrassing.

  • The last note and at 2:18 were really off!

  • I love bad last notes.

  • Oh, ow. That last note hurt

  • I don't think that last note is Kerry, i think it is Crystal. And regardless she's fantastic even if she does have 1 off note.

  • Ouch, that last note hurt

  • Ouch,man

  • What up with the 'man' at the end?

  • She doesn't really sound like an Audrey to me. Beautiful voice, just kind of out of place.

  • I like Kerry and the cast but that final note is awful. :/

  • this is terrible

  • Kerry's voice is amazing, and she sings the hell out of this, but that last note, just does not sound nice at all xx

  • Let's be real. Ellen may have "owned" the character, but Kerry's voice is definitely easier to listen to. And amazing.

  • @TerribleGreenBlizzrd I so agree.

  • She's awful.

  • I am so sorry, but this is awful.

  • Hunter Foster<3.

    Nuff said. (:

  • My High School did that show way better this past weekend!

  • I love Kerry Butler but performance wise this isn't her best. And it's too bad because if you watch her do Hairspray or Bat Boy you can see how good of a performer she really is.

  • Yike good but not as good as Rick and Ellen singing together

  • Kerry Butler's very good, but I prefer Ellen Greene's Audrey.

  • That was wonderful, but the last note was a little off pitch for someone...

  • 1:03 why isn't she smiling?? Like, really? She looks freaking pissed

  • the Foster family is crazy talented, Sutton (Hunters sister) is even better than he is.

  • Yuck.

  • Kerry's cousin works at my school. Just sharing. Hahaha.

  • It all is going swell. .... until the last note!!

Does anyone else hear that ear shattering note coming out of

one of their mouths at the end!!!??? ?AAAAHHHH

  • @SamSkii14 Yeah. Sounds like one of the Urchins.

  • Damn! Kerry rocked this song!!

  • I'm a huge Hunter Foster fan, and I actually saw this revival live and loved it, but whoa is he flat in this video. He sounds better on the cast album, and his version of Grow for Me was absolutely adorable. Kerry Butler is adequate, but definitely nothing special. Their chemistry was pretty bland.

  • UGH! Dark eyebrows and that hideous blonde wig!

  • @pkingsleyisback Kerry Butler beats the shit out of Ellen Greene. The chick from the movie was absolutly terrible!!!

  • omg the resemblence between hunter and sutton is unbelieveable!

  • not to be rude, but Kerry can't really sing this good. I mean, she is a good singer, but a little nasely & yeah... not all that great.

  • While I DO like her voice, her upper-mid range is a bit too nasally for me here. I can imagine she's got a bang up 'On My Own', but I'm sold on the soul that Greene gave Audrey which seems unique in comparison to other performances.

I also must disagree with the comment regarding her vocal texture and breathlessness. This isn't lack of breath support -- this is control. Greene can (and does) go straight from breathless, modulated legit to strong, soulful belt -- that requires MUCH control.

  • @aubignespratling I don't care. Kerry Butler is much better, much more beautiful and has the right voice. Ellen Greene is very good, Just nothing compared to Kerry Butler.

  • @rogerbartbiggestf100

... Yeeeeahhh. I think it's important that you include, 'this is the opinion of an amateur performer', because that would be most honest. No offence meant, but unless you're an authority on the subject, (and I can't say any of us truly are here -- am I wrong? Is there a pro lurking?) it's useful to include that such vehement statements are merely your opinion. I'm semi-pro, and still, I can only truly offer my opinion.

... But this's just my opinion. I could be wrong. ;)

  • @aubignespratling You are wrong. I am not an amateur. How dare you? I am a professional. I am actually touring with CATS right now. No. I will not include that.

  • @rogerbartbiggestf100

What, as crew? Hey, I would never knock crew. I ASM'd here in L.A. to get my start.

Incidentally, you want to see a professional who recently got his break? Check out Patrick Lewallen. I'm thrilled to see him launch.

You seem more ... 'aspiring'. Nothing wrong with being an usher. Just find proper training and keep working at it.

You're a bit too vague for a professional. Where's your website? Your real credits? And what's with all the bad quality overdubbing?

  • @aubignespratling I am crew. I play Mistoffelees/Quaxo.

  • @rogerbartbiggestf100

You're crew -and- cast? Also, if your name is Chris, why do you list it as 'Joe' on your channel?

  • @aubignespratling Joe is Just my nickname. The cast calls me that.

  • @rogerbartbiggestf100

Huh. Well, who knew? Must be a story there. Like, 'Average Joe' or some-such? Either way, how'd you feel performing in your hometown after being on tour of such a major show? Oh, and is it spelt with a 'C' or a 'K'? I've seen it both ways in print. I'd imagine that changes the way one would assume it's pronounced, too. (People mispronounce my name -all- the time.)

I'm curious also if it's Penn State where you studied. We may know some of the same crowd, oddly enough.

  • @aubignespratling its a C

  • And I got no website yet

  • @rogerbartbiggestf100 Ellen Greene is nothing compared to Kerry Butler? Holy hell that's a bold statement.

  • i am shocked at how bad this girl is. she is not even in time with the music for most of the song. she rarely hits the right notes. plus, there is NO feeling in this at all!! laughable, really!

  • @liquidkraken

Is this a joke? She is pretty much spot on musically.

  • @Trebleguy123 lol whatever. she sounds horrible.

  • Kerry Butler is best Audrey ever. She's way better than Ellen Greene. Ellen Greene's voice was annoying. Even if she did own the part, she still sounded so...nazly.

  • @rogerbartbiggestf100

This is a much more nasal performance. Greene is using more of an adenoidal voice. Butler's mid-upper range is much thinner in tonal quality than Greene's. While she maintains proper pitch, it's lacking a vocal weight I've come to appreciate (and expect) in a performance of this song. It's just a little too mechanical for my taste, even if it is technically sound, with the talent of both singers evident.

  • I really want to learn the technique Kerri uses at 2:49... Does anyone know what it's called and/or where I can learn it? Please and thank you :)

  • I really want to learn the technique Kerri uses at 2:49... Does anyone know what it's called and/or where I can learn it? Please and thank you :)

  • @CupCake7535 it's a sort of a grunt, but you are singing a note. That's how I can explain it. Try singing one note and hold it out, then just put in a grunt to end it. Send me a message if you would like more help, I can probably make a video for you if you want.

  • @CupCake7535

Technique? I don't believe I'm quite following. It's just a pure attack with a strong belt and a solid note. What 'technique' are you seeking, or referring to?

  • I love Kerry more than Ellen Greene. SO much more.

  • Hunter Foster. The guy. Is my cousin. He is amazing!!! Haven't seen him in a while but he is writing a play!!

  • this version doesnt have any personality...

  • What happened at the end?? lol

  • She sang the shit out of that!!!

  • Kerrys cousin is a teacher at my school...Dr. Butler. Haha its awesome.

  • Why does every Seymour camp up; Seymour is not meant to be a little geek, sure he is a little nerdy, but he's a nervous, sweet little guy who is in love with Audrey. Kerry Butler is much better than Ellen Greene though, she sings with a consistant voice that suits the character and she isn't unpleasent to listen to either.

  • It wasnt that bad an ending. Slightly mis pitched the last note but corrected it but then had to take another breathe for the alteration. Any one can make a mistake!! Dont be cruel - V professional of her to realise and correct subtley!!! An out of tune note held would have sounded far worse!!

  • Oh Hunter Foster, how you do make my heart swell <3 I can't get over his voice, it's beautiful! This is the second year my school has done something with Hunter having once starred in it. Footloose: Bickle & Ren understudy. This year we're doing Little Shop of Horrors. My friend and I are gonna see if we can convince our teacher to do Urinetown next year 8D

  • wow!!!

  • That ending was just really bad sound mixing. It wasn't Kerry, her voice is better than that. It was just the guy at the sound board not realizing that one of the trio voices overpowered the leads. That's all. I love this version though! I'm actually not an Ellen Greene fan =\ lol But yeah, good performance by both of them here!

  • @cjc2292

Thank you for clarifying! I thought I was hearing that, too, but couldn't be sure. Really, outside of that, my only other quibble is that Butler just seemed a bit miscast here. Someone told me she did Ariel? That seems like a perfect match! While not a Greene fan, (heh) myself, I CAN appreciate the woman's talent -- especially the more I've studied of voice. And in this particular role, Greene brings something truly unique to it, in my opinion. I just don't feel that here.

  • Agreed. It would be like trying to remake Breakfast at Tiffany's with someone other than Audrey Hepburn. Greene will always own the character...especially since she did the role in front of the Queen of Engalnd.

  • she cant match ellen but i forgive her it is a big ask..the scary thing is he cant match ric moranis....german stage version better even backing singers are average

  • Am I the only person who thinks Anthony Rapp would do so well as Seymour?

  • I find Hunter Foster is a much better singer than Rick Moranis.

  • @MrCrowIey love the rickster but I agree

  • Theyre like screaming at the end lol

  • wow, i'm surprised hunter foster flatted as much as he did here. he's usually dead-on. must have been a really bad vocal night for him.

    audrey was TERRIBLE, though.

  • @furiouscake hunter foster wasn't off pitch...i don't know what you're hearing, and i played seymour

  • Watching this, I think Kerry Butler did a really good job, but...Hunter Foster...The guy playing Seymour......His voice is too "Crisp" too "Clean" ....

  • @Terrorclaw Yes, Kerry did an excellent job, but how a voice being properly be used be improper use?

  • @HunnerFoster I did not say it was being "Improperly used" I said the way he sings, is a little too..Crips, His singing doesn't quite sound as smooth as it should IMO

  • I didnt like the ending but the rest was pretty good, i like ellen greenes version but ellens voice is one of those 'marmite' voices you either love it or hate it. x

  • I got Seymour in my high school's production :)

  • i love the guy in this and the girl solo is amongst one of the greatest ever but her ending note is abssolutely terrible

  • Does anyone else think that final note came from Hunter?

  • I dont feel it has a lot of emotion. But dont get me wrong i <3 kerry!

  • @pkingsleyisback you are so right! I am always so hopeful when I start to hear someone else singing this but then its just a big let down.

  • Kerry is so cute with this hair!

  • yeah, that high e is def the chorus

  • nice pitchin :-|

  • Thanks for uploading! I think this is the version on my favorite CD ever. I love it!

  • i think the issue with this song is that ellen greene just owns that character too much, so when the girl singer here, who is pretty good, didnt own up to all the soul in the voice that greene has, it just seems to be missing something. and I know that the guy is supposed to be nerdy, but no one likes a straight edgy tone to a voice like he has. and not having the modulations at the end was a big let down. btw i mean this all as constructive not mean.

  • @pkingsleyisback by "modulations" do you mean the way they broke up the word "man" at the end of the song in the movie? If so I HATED that. The original show also with Ellen Greene didn't have that.

  • @WeCanNeverMeetAgain i finally found a version of the ellen greene brodway, and your right and wrong. i could still hear the chords changing underneath them (it was just much quicker than the movie), but unlike the movie they stayed on the one note like this version. well i guess thats difference of opinion. i think my reasoning for like it is im a big barbershop lover and that feels like the extra chords at the end of the tag to keep the suspense a little further

  • @WeCanNeverMeetAgain Wasn't Ellen Greene in the movie? What do you mean by original show, and why would you HATE it? I love Ellen's voice, it completely overpowers Rick Moranis.

  • @GLEEcurb Yes Ellen Greene was in the movie, but before that she was in the original off-broadway cast. If you listen to both the movie and broadway cast recordings of Suddenly Seymour, they both end differently and I prefer the way it was done in the show.

  • @pkingsleyisback you are so right. Everytime I hear someone else sing this I get hopefull but it always ends up being such a big let down. I mean Ellen Greene also played Audrey in the off broadway version....she just owns her.

  • @pkingsleyisback she is really good back off! ellen greene over did it

  • @pkingsleyisback not every one can be ellen greene ok

  • @pkingsleyisback seriously? kerry butler's voice is MUCH better than ellen greene's - ellen greene's voice makes me want to throw up

  • @pkingsleyisback Part One. First of all, I have seen the score for Little Shop of Horrors and I'm not sure if you've studied musical history or harmony, but what happens at the end isn't a modulation, and I honestly have no idea what you are referring to. So already, that point has no validity. Furthermore Hunter's voice is not a straight, edgy tone, but you can clearly hear vibrato in the parts that are meant to be honest singing, and stylistically, the whole thing should not be sung with a

  • @pkingsleyisback Part Two: more traditional tone, this isn't Pirates of Penzance, South Pacific, or Phantom of the Opera. Not only that, but Ellen Greene brought a unique character to the part, but to comment on appropriate singing and tone as a problem, and then bring in Ellen Greene is just wrong. She does not sing with a traditional tone at all, the wispiness of her voice reflects extremely poor support. On top of all of that the characters themselves have to be adapted by the actors and

  • @pkingsleyisback Hunter and Kerry did it impeccably. Character development is commented on in the script itself, saying there has to be an honesty, which Kerry and Hunter both bring. They truly capture Seymour and Audrey, and their chemistry can be felt even through a recording. I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinions but to comment just for the purpose of commenting is ridiculous. btw i mean this all as constructive not mean.

  • Hmmmmm - that ending was pretty bad! Hate when that happens, obviously great singers though. I didn't like Hunter's acting too much on this one either.

  • Yeah didn't sound like Kerry.

  • Eh. I missed the characters??? Where Were they???

  • That made my dog cry instead of me, sorry. :(

  • @MrSpockhead what kind of dog do u have and how and why did that make your dog cry?

  • blimey that last night was baaad!!!!!! even so its a good version but kerrys character seems a bit too mature - i prefer the ditsy, cute, innocent version in the film :)

  • OK, I went in hoping to like it but this is probably the least romantic rendition of the song I've heard.

  • OOOOO! Bad ending. Note. Off. BAD!

  • awwwww, i love this song...i totally have this soundtrack! seymour's character is just so adorable. haha, i like how hunter foster was just smiling in the background for a while. it made me think he was kinda admiring audrey...so CUTE!

  • Hunter was almost always flat when going to higher notes - I expected more from him.

  • Oh Hunter Foster.... What a cutie :)

  • This is better then the movie musical.

  • I LOVE THESE TWO 8D! They're so talented & they sound great together :)!

  • I looove this :) apart from the last note lol I wondered if it was pre-recorded, it;s just sooo perfect <3 I llooooved Kerry's little roar AANNDDDD how to bee morreee aha :)xxxx

  • good, but never as good as the original =)

  • i really like her vioce!

  • Is it even possibe for Hunter to get any cuter... nope :) I<3HF

  • I'd give anything to have seen the Foster siblings in their high school musicals together!

  • I love the balance in his voice between following the character, but bringing some broad warmth and beauty to particular notes.

  • She's much better than Alice Ripley who got the ax in the out of town tryout. I saw her in Miami and she went in and out of character. She also had a condescending approach to her character.

  • wow wow shes a hottie

  • that last note.....oh my.

  • @qtgee71 I don't think it was Kerry! I just noticed the last note!!

  • they did an excellent job, the ending bothers me tho i thought wat it was an octive lower but oh well fantastic job anyway

  • Well, we must all remember that even though they are professional Broadway actors, they are still only human, as much as we like to think otherwise. They are prone to mistakes, even during performances. But yeah, the ending could have been better, but overall, it was amazing!! This is my favorite song from this show.

  • a lot of the notes were way off... wasnt this broadway?
