  • all is fair in love and horseracing. I was a big fan of Winning Colors

at the time and almost cried during the race. I am sure everyone knew

she would win if she got an easy lead.

  • It looks like Willing Colors was looking at Risen Star down the stretch.

  • Lost all respect for Woody Stevens after this race.

  • why would they be booing ? the most talented horse in the race won....3 weeks later he proved it quite decisively

  • Is that booing at the end of the race?

  • no. i don't hear any booing.

  • Winning Colors ran 1 1/4 while the rest of them ran 1 3/16.

  • What are you talking about? If you're talking about the preakness, that's impossible. Everyone raced at the same length. oO.-dumbfounded-

  • Because she ran the race on the outside the whole time

  • ohhh.

i see. thanks for clearing that up!

  • There was little speed in the KD that year but the preakness has lots of speed the first two under the wire in the preakness were the only two that closed any ground ii Ky. Derby, so I played $100 exacta (one way) and got back over $7,000. Went for a drive the next day and almost totaled my car being hit by uninsured driver. Some days lucky some days not

  • GO STAR GO!!!

  • you all have no idea what you are talking about. Pimlico is known for having a "deep" track around the rail. When rains falls upon the track, it only makes the conditions worse. Stevens knew this and told Forty Niner to take the 3 wide path, it was just unlucky that winning colors was on the outside of him. Stevens was not that kind of a man. He probably was mad that a filly beat his colt by a nose but he would not intentionally lose a race just so another horse wouldn't win.

  • Fantastic! Risen Star was quite the horse. Winning Colors was in tough that day. Thanks for posting it. Take care.

  • Woody Stevens purposely asked Pat Day to give Winning Colors a tough time. If you notice the first turn, Forty Niner takes Winning Colors 4 wide. I think Woody Stevens was offended that a filly beat his colt in the Kentucky Derby. She still beat him in the Preakness though.

  • @fightsnraces Yeah. I wholeheartedly agree with that statement. I lost just about all respect for Woody Stephens after that race. I thought that was a chicken**** thing to do. Forty Niner was not a speed horse, and I think Stephens knew that. It was the idea of "I don't care if my horse doesn't win, as long as she didn't." That is not cool.
