  • like what i thought, they rly developed the viewport canvas from polyboost.

  • one word...AWESOME! :D

  • Looks like I can throw photoshop away when you release this

    :)

  • I have to admit... I am very much looking forward to this release. Hopefully Maya will get it's fix aswell, pointing especially towards pyQT... I want interface changes! Also Max needs some of those interface changes awswell.... so clustered. Hopefully XBR will bring some nice goodies. I like the smooth transition ADSK are making :)

  • for me, this is nice!

  • lots of haters around here hehe.

    new features/tools look tight.

agree about the ribbon on the top, please dont get rid of the command panel. That is the beacon.

  • Alot of people are bitter about change. I guess to please "Ribbon" crowd and "Command Panel" crowd is maybe update the look of the command panel to the ease and usabilty of the ribbon.

  • We're not showing core features because we haven't officially launched the product! These are just things to whet your appetite until we do announce.

  • Will the 3D painting be as slow as it looks? Since it's not a 2D or 2.5D (Zbrush-like) paint mode, will it be as clunky and slow as the previous new features like modeling with a paintbrush or can we finally expect something with proper, complex, fast brushes which will replace some of the time usually spent in Photoshop and Z?

  • don't you think that might be just a little dependent on your hw and your model complexity? There is no answer to this question as some will find it blazing fast and others will find it not fast enough.

  • Sure but I've never seen Max's sculpt tools match ZBrush's speed, for example. I'm not even talking about when you sculpt a 20 million polygon mesh, but even one at 100k. 3ghz quad-core, 4GB of DDR2 RAM and an HD4890. I can poly paint and sculpt tens of millions of polygons in Z in real-time. I can't use Max 2010's brush tools on much simpler models without enough lag to make me just run Z and do the same thing.

What I mean is, is 2011 on par with Z and Bodypaint 3D, for example?

  • No 3ds Max is not Mudbox, it's unrealistic to expect a general animation tool to have an optimized brush modeling workflow the same as Mudbox. This is not unique to 3ds Max. It's a function of focusing on one thing and only one thing.

  • wow ive seen all three of these videos so many haters out there. its crazy. I love allthe new features u guys got cooking up.

But i agree. I grew up on the command panel on the right. Its bleepin awesome. I hope it doesn't dissapear...

  • Well, nice features... again. But we wanna see CORE changes... not another feature. Isn't that what XBR should be all about?

  • It looks cool, although pretty basic. It's handy if you can't afford better tools like, oh I don't know, pretty much anything that's out there.
