@libertariandeist I turned my helicopter 90 degrees to the left, whereas my helicopter angled 45 degrees to the right, which isn't mentioned because if you turn your helicopter to left or right by 90 degrees, your helicopter TILTS by 45 degrees to the opposite side.
Ohhh... I just noticed that when your circle strafing, the pilot can't really attack stuff as effectively, or else you'll lose your circle strafe. You gotta leave most of it to the gunner.
@TheSkyCries1 You can circle strafe & attack effectively if your target is stationary or moving very slowly (e.g. unsuspecting tank). In other situations, you can shoot head on like normal.
"how do you play on a map alone with nobody else with you"

those were some awesome manouvers, dude! i will buy this game next week. is it possible to get some practise by driving vehicles in a training scenario, before i try it in the multiplayer? i love driving helis n stuff like that but without a little practise i´ll pale to what i´ve seen here...;)
@cugooluloo Unfortunately there's no 'training scenarios' but if you're getting it for PC. You can fly around in an empty 1player start server. Also, if you have a buddy, you can play the coop mission "fire from the sky".
BF2 :) It seems that all the best jet pilots and heli pilots played Bf2! It was a much harder game to fly on, but if you had it mastered you could own :) Especially in a jet :)
@yoshi75013 BF2 definitely has something to do with it! In Bf2, the helicopter controls were extremely similar to BF3, with many transferable skills. For example, the ability to circle strafe, which was widely used by the top pilots in BF2. Therefore, in my opinion, BF2, does have a lot to do with it.
Hmmm a circle strafing helicopter. From the inside of your circle it'll be hard to shoot you down, but outside of your circle you'd be toast all it takes is two engineers with SAMs. not like BFBC2 where you have to "tracer dart" to shoot down the helicopter. You'd have to do that sporadically. I can see it sorta working on tanks but you dont need to circle strafe in BF3 to be effective. With all those light poles (the tall ones) it'll be better to just do strafing passes and temporary hovering.
thanks! now i will go on my ps3, steal my teams best air support for so to then drive away from the objective and practice. as on consoles. we cant have own servers. and neither can we play on them unless there are 8 players.

@musicplayah "Something that helps when driving choppers is to think about how a chopper work, all of the power goes straight up with the blades spinning so naturally you just have to lean yourself in the angle you want to go"
@skruvmaejsel By 90 degrees, I mean turning left 90 degrees (forward, left, right, back all differ by 90 degrees). Tilting the helicopter to its side or tilting the nose down is 45 degrees.
At 1:30, my view is 90 degrees to the left of the direction of my motion, but my helicopter is tilted to its right side by 45 degrees.
Guys, were the attack helicopters nerfed in turning speed? It might just be me but suddenly strafing feels REALLY difficult even though i could do it easily before
@DeltaSixEcho This happend to me also, I started flying choppers ALOT and lost all of my skill with jets.. it's like I had no idea how to do those sicks turns so naturally I trained myself up with jets again and then I failed so hard with chopper. I've managed to stay pretty decent with both now though but for a while I thought they might have nerfed choppers.
i guessed on the ps3, you would have to tilt nose down, then use left stick to turn, whilst at a tilt of about 45 degrees in the opposite direction to keep you strafing and turning..
i totally failed miserably to actually do it, i instead turned on the spot and sank to the ground.. luckily i actualy managed to get i tunder control before it crashed.
@bjmben88 not really there are tons of crashes that are caused by trees, powerlines, telephone poles, street lamps, anything really. ive even heard a story of a guy crashing his heli on a cow, not sure if its true tho...
Do you think it's better with wsad and mouse or just keyboard, wsad / lrud keys ? And very nice flying, a pleasure to watch your vid ! I remember in BF2, the helo did not autolevel the left/right tilt so it was more fluid, you did not have to tap the keys, almost like a low speed plane flying, which made for some cinematic flight in the valleys like Fushe Pass (nonexistent in bf3, small maps)
@staedtler23 I can't really say if keyboard alone is good. I never really gave it a shot, but from what I remember, the better pilots of BF2 used a mouse or joystick.
And yeah, I miss the fluidity of BF2, but I can't complain.. I like it a 100x better than BC2.

Also could u do some vids for the havoc? I'm decent at the viper but the havoc is just like.... trowing a sealion out of a cargo plane with a parachute and rocket pods taped to it and try to maneuvre that... Anywayz, nice vids!
@lycon7000 I fly fast by keeping the nose tilted down and keeping the momentum of dives as long as possible.

@bywukime try to level ur heli out so that u are hovering. then tilt ur nose down and tap "W" as much as u need it. dont press W all the time just tap it :)
well i really tried so hard but cant get it done :/ no matter what sense i use or what heli nose comes up or heli does not even start to rotate and strafes right into the ground bout without circeling :/ well im not new to flying helis and i have no problem with the controls at all but circle strafing gets me nightmares :/ tried for 4 hours right now and not a singel circle strafe at all ://////
@skuzzle Break it down into simpler steps. Fly sideways for as long as you can while being stable and not losing altitude ( @ 1:28 in the video). Once you can do that, find your own way of circling if my way doesn't work. But make sure you master it, cause that's the fundamental of circle strafing.
@bodmondude hey there i finally did it :D it was one and only my fault. i tried to compensate my direction with the mouse and worked in the other direction (for example making a circle strafe anti clock wise like in your video i moved my mouse left) insted of constantly tilting the mouse forward. some kind of unnatural movement i guess :D but finally it works great :) its just the problem getting used to constantly hold W tap A or D and tilt ur nose down too much multitasking :D
@bodmondude i guess that many people are confused about how they really should tilt the nose down. by that i mean what they should do with theyr mouse and for me i found out that its the same movement like if u are flying the jet and make a constant turn (u repeatedly pull down ur mouse after turning ur jet vertically to the ground) but instead u have to repeatedly move ur mouse forward, again and again :) and that was the secret for me :) but all thanks to you :D
this is EXACTLY what I wanted to know. I can fly the Heli quite good, except I can strafe or circle in a small area. I still cant do it, but I wont give up. My problem (xbox) is falling to the ground. Its like I go forward, then push my right stick downwards a bit, and my left stick left/right. I seem to fall to the ground real fast OR I dont circle fast enough (my sensitivity is set to 90%). But ill keep trying. Love the Helis. thanks for the tut. Good stuff...
@bodmondude Hmmm well I tried last nite. I guess I need more practice/help or something. I tried it and just crashed 2 times. Ill keep trying thou, still owesome vid. thanks...
My problem is, that when I start turning my Helo starts pulling up it's nose like hell. I have spent a whole night trying this and no luck. Has anybody got the same issue?
why don't you use a joystick? jw. or haven't you ever tried? i think its better. really lets me be more maneuverable. also i would love to have a helicopter buddy. JUST for helicopter. any ideas where to find such people? you? battelog forums?
@bodmondude actually it's not the same thing. Im playing with joystick and can do whatever i want with viper, but circle strafing in havoc is a huge problem for me.
@PikaTheGanxta do you use the flip throttle on your joystick? or w and s on keyboard? because i can't really tap throttle up while using a joystick throttle
@ay4729 You may be tilting your nose too far down. Try doing it in a linear fashion first and get the hang of tapping A / tilting nose down in such a way where you fly sideways with out any altitude change. Then slowly incorporate the circling step.
Also, you may want to push your mouse in the opposite direction of movement as your tilting the nose down, that will give you a tighter turn. Not sure if that's your problem though. Good luck.
@888888HiPeople888888 It's actually anywhere between 0 and 90. A circle has 4 quarters, 90, 180, 270, and 360. In this case, I want you to turn 90 to the left, which is 1 quarter to the left. Once you get the hang of it, you can circle strafe at whatever angle or direction you like.
Looks like they fixed the heli controls from BFBC2. I'm going out to buy a TV, PS3, and BF3 this weekend. Anyone on PS3 that wants to be a chopper GUNNER for me, feel free to add me: BOOM__HEADSHOT (two underscores). I pretty much own (at least on BFBC1 and BF2), so you'll get a shit ton of points.
My advice for "circle strafe": Feeeel the helicopter maaan, just feel the helicopter.
If you have to be taught to circle strafe you're probably not going to last more than 60 seconds in the air.
how do u go so fast in the beginning?

My problem is, that when I start turning my Helo starts pulling up it's nose like hell. I have spent a whole night trying this and no luck. Has anybody got the same issue?
HungarianManbeast 2 months ago
@HungarianManbeast Push your nose down! And if you can't push it, then either you're doing it wrong or your sensitivity is too low!

Is there a circle strafing tutorial for xbox? Not sure how these keys translate!
rocket13531 3 months ago
Can you do this in havoc?
PikaTheGanxta 3 months ago
@PikaTheGanxta It's the same thing for a havoc. The havoc is just slower/less responsive.
bodmondude 3 months ago
@bodmondude actually it's not the same thing. Im playing with joystick and can do whatever i want with viper, but circle strafing in havoc is a huge problem for me.
PikaTheGanxta 3 months ago
@PikaTheGanxta I can circle strafe with the havoc fine, it's just slow as shit and goes really wide.
bodmondude 3 months ago
@PikaTheGanxta do you use the flip throttle on your joystick? or w and s on keyboard? because i can't really tap throttle up while using a joystick throttle
02vanity 2 months ago
@02vanity w and s.

LittleByrd981 3 months ago
Can you do this with a joystick on PC? The key bindings are screwy and I have issues with the throttle not going fast enough.
TLEE1977 3 months ago
@badmondude. Shouldn't you be studying for a biochemistry test instead of playing BF3 and uploading videos?

when i try it i keep losing altitude and end up crashing half a circle into it. Am i doing something wrong?
ay4729 3 months ago
@ay4729 You may be tilting your nose too far down. Try doing it in a linear fashion first and get the hang of tapping A / tilting nose down in such a way where you fly sideways with out any altitude change. Then slowly incorporate the circling step.
Also, you may want to push your mouse in the opposite direction of movement as your tilting the nose down, that will give you a tighter turn. Not sure if that's your problem though. Good luck.

How did you not crash into the trees at the beginning?

cloudsora 3 months ago
just so you know that angle is 45 not 90 :)
888888HiPeople888888 3 months ago
@888888HiPeople888888 It's actually anywhere between 0 and 90. A circle has 4 quarters, 90, 180, 270, and 360. In this case, I want you to turn 90 to the left, which is 1 quarter to the left. Once you get the hang of it, you can circle strafe at whatever angle or direction you like.

PC players who use only keyboard be sure to read up on this to avoid crashing when maintaining a move like this wikipedia . org/wiki/Rollover_(key)

You should have a camera on your keyboard/joystick/whatever while you're doing this in the corner of the video.
