  • Just as well you didn't pay anything .. as your English is shockingly poor.

  • You guys saying she should have given money to her cousin are ridiculous...you're only judging him by his appearance

  • Dat cougar.

  • If someone asked me about Harry Potter story I like most, I would answer that they would ask me Rowling.Chac Rowling certainly not in the story but I will tell them that the story that I see the soul Rowling's. Not all but a portion of her soul that I really admire and imitate her and I will be writing a novel.

Thank you very much for Ms. Rowling is the driving force, my guideline for achieving my dream, although it is very difficult ..

  • I love Rowling very much.

  • Watched entire video, got amazed by her story... Wish it was shown in US.

  • I love the UK versions of this show so much better than the US ones. The UK versions have more information and depth. JK is such a class act.

  • inspirational*

hard to see what I'm typing with these damn onions in the room, making me cry.

  • I know it's slightly mad of me to say this .. but it actually hurts me to see Jo cry.

She's sort of a motherly figure to me, (and I suppose most of us who grew up reading the books), and as so much of the books are about familial love, and knowing the very important place she gives to ancestry and family heritage in them, it just hurts to see her in obvious pain.

    =(

Indirational, nonetheless. If only they could see her now.

  • Such an amazing and touching story. I love it.

  • Thanks so much for posting this!!! :)

  • It's odd, you can see bits of J.K. in the character of Harry. That's lovely I think :)

  • Im also a geneaologist too with MS

  • I too have MS and traced my familytree the same back to 1700s I lived in scotland also twice lived simular lifes

  • Do they keep such cool stuff bout me somewhere?

    AMAZING.

  • That archivist discussing the Schuche family is pretty damn fine.

  • @levanyzzuf the one at 33' ?

  • this is great an all but I would like to know if Rowling sent some money to her new found cousin. It would be messed up on her part if she didn't.....after all that caretaker is family. I know I would in a heartbeat if I had her kind of money.

  • Interesting but doesn't everybody have French roots

  • @creolelady182 No why would they?

  • There are so many French bastards in Britain

  • Ah I knew it! I called it the moment I saw the name "Schuch" I knew Salomé was from Alsace because her name sounds a bit German.

  • It's so touching to see how moved she is by her great grandfather. I love the whole thing, the quest, even the mistake about the other Louis Volant. That shows how tricky and complicated recreating your family tree really is because what if the archives burnt, or were lost or, like in this case, what if you're mistaken for somebody else? Utterly fascinating.

And J.K.Rowling is such a great person.

    Thank you for posting!

  • I really don't like my origins history, by the way I am 100% german. This made me dislike my history even more!

  • @paularbear08 German ger great respect around the world :)

  • @paularbear08 Not all Germans were "bad" even if they were fighting in the war. They didn't had a choice and they just didn't know any better. It must be a hard thing to deal with foe you (the whold egerman thing and stuff} ^^

  • true and inspirational artist... she made me open my eyes to believe, that anything can be conquered with only little imagination and inspiration. Thank you! :)

  • Jo is such an inspiration! I don't even know how to describe how amazing she is. It's awesome how she can be so down to earth and so nice unlike a lot of other famous people :)

  • Thanks so much for uploading this video, it was amazing to see the history behind a women who inspires me so much and so astonishing to see how great her family history is.

  • It's amazing how Harry Potter keeps fighting through thick and thin to defeat Lord Voldemort. Jo's great-great-grandfather did the same to the Germans, and survived.

Three cheers everyone for Lois Valant!

  • Jo Rowling is imply an amazing person, and is such an inspiration for me just as a person. She's changed my life so much and has taught me so much about the world through HP and it's such an important aspect of my life. The sad thing is I bet she has no idea how much she's touched some random fella in Australia. You one of my heroes Jo, thank you so much for everything you've done for us.

  • I really want to learn my family tree now.I love you Jo!

  • This was an amazing and magical journey into Jo's family tree.I now see why she had to write her story like that, from a woman in difficulties to a woman who became a great name in literature with many awards.I loved every minute of it!

  • She's absolutely rolling in money; She could pay the local council to do DNA tests on all the bones (using her DNA). Then she could easily pay for a new individual grave. She should, she's got the cash, and he won the Croix de Guerre fighting for France. .

  • @kealyc1 lolololololol I think you mean "rowling in money..."

    SORRY. I had to.

  • @kealyc1 that would be a horrible thing to do, and selfish

  • Thats amazing!

  • Good on her for insisting that Louis Volant the officer was not her ancestor, instead of glossing over the discrepancies in the dates and so on to force them to fit the handed-down family story (as so many family genealogists do).

  • Watched the whole thing. What an incredible story. It's inspiring me to find out about my family history, because I don't know much about my great grandparents and their parents.

  • wow 0 dislikes.

  • @Javalolz1 no one can dislike such a beautiful story.

  • that's was brilliant!!

  • She looks like Louis Valont

  • I felt outraged about the grave, but glad Jo was able to look for positive things and find them.

  • @tribowx1976 It's odd how we take on her emotions. We feel outraged for her!

  • She met her third cousin, amazing!

  • What a classy lady. Wonderful to see this personal and touching side of her life.

  • @slx224

Classy my ass, i bet she didnt even give the old guy some money, i would have given him 20,000 euros at least for being a long lost cousin and especially cos he was old.

  • I Remember when the first book came out and stole the book from my bestfriend.

    J.K. you made my life.

  • Her name is Joanne I read a book about her

  • AWESOME!!! Truly enjoyed her story and the history that it brought to light. M.

  • This is absolutely amazing! I highly recommend everyone to see this amazing video!

  • This woman is a godess to me

  • gosh im jealous....

  • My Queen.

  • i would shit my pants if i found out Jo was my cousin

  • ahhhh I just love her! her speech, her attitude, her strenght, and the books obviously, just love them.

  • speechless

  • Cette émission est vraiment passionnante et ce numéro là particulièrement !

  • Finding Louis' remains could be difficult ? Do a DNA test on all the bones. It might take a while, though. She's got the money.

  • JK rowling is really beautiful! she is really gorgeous!

  • noone ever wants to be german or acknowledge their german roots. hmmm. not really surprising, but...well... as a young liberal german I'm quite sad about it.

  • @AquavivaZZZ I am too...

  • @AquavivaZZZ Are you serious? In 2012? Why wouldn't they acknowledge them? I found the attitude of J.K.Rowling a bit weird to be honest (and I love her). I mean the Franco Prussian war happened more than 100 years ago that's strange to hold a grudge for that long. As a French woman if I learnt I had German roots (who knows) I'd be proud. I really think history between France and Germay is completely defused nowadays and that's great.

  • @Sciencespipo @AquavivaZZZ I don't think Jo didn't want to German. I think she didn't NOT want to be French. There's a fine line.

I think when all your life you think you've come from a certain place, you really BECOME that expectation of yourself. Finding out that might not have been true must have been terrifying.

I was in Germany last October on a study trip. Really didn't know what to expect of 'Germans' .. but you guys are lovely and so hospitable =D

    <3

    It wasn't an anti-German thing.

  • @Mayna00 Oh okay, I didn't see things that way but it makes sense. Thank you for showing me a different way to look at things ;-)

  • @AquavivaZZZ dont feel sad.Honestly dont believe the occassional silly media story. In England the majority of people like the Germans you are our cousins but occassionaly cousins may snipe about each other but we really do like and appreciate Germany.

  • @AquavivaZZZ I have both German and polish roots, and I want to know about both sides.

  • I have acestors from where she went to but they left teh area over 100 yeas before. They might have been Frecn huguenots .

  • This Show is just so... classy. I mean, reality TV in America is like Jersey Shore and the Bachelor.

  • Lol the other Louis Volant has my birthday.

  • 8:34, that woman's wearing the same outfit as her. I am creeped a bit. :c

    Otherwise cool episode!

  • AMAZING! ç____ç

  • This was an amazing episode of J.K. Rowling's history on her mom's side, thank you for sharing it with us.

  • A Billion $ in the bank but still a down to earth Mum with real family values.

  • You're my childhood J. K Rowling. I owe you a lot for publishing Harry Potter.

  • Thank you so much!

  • Love you JO!! You're the most amazing woman!!!

  • Thank you j.k Rowling. You make my life better. Harry Potter always in my heart!

  • UK needs CCSVI clinical trials for MS have researched like I have geneaology too

  • an absolutely epic story of louis volante.... what a hero....

  • Can somebody please post the new UK series, which started in August 2011 (Emilia Fox, Larry Lamb, Sebastian Coe, etc. ) There is somebody on YouTube pretending to have been obliged to take them off YouTube for copyright reasons, he then directs you towards a website where you ahve to enter all your details but you don't get to see the episodes. So don't worry, please post the new series.

  • many sympathys to JK I also did my familytree and my gt grandad died too luckily is buried in france .

  • 25:57. Ohh Jo, you're killing me.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed this! I love Jo!

  • Hi, I live in the US and can't get the UK version on DVD here - if anyone has the Series 1-8 episodes that aren't available on youtube right now, I would be forever thankful if you could upload them to youtube...

  • i absolutely love J.K Rowling. just so admirable and modest, and she's soo nice to us fans

  • Wow that means JK Rowling is german in some way, like me :o Cool!

  • @Mirinna Not really. But as long as you have the magic in yourself you are like her and thousands and thousands and even more thousands of HP fans.

  • @f2l7o4 Well said :) ♥

  • Thanks for this! iTS ALWAYS LOVELY TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS GREAT WOMAN!

  • Schuch has almost the same surname as me :P Mine is missing the R.

  • A nice episode of who do you think you are the small french village are real picturesque

  • Brumath is like Godric's Hollow!

  • Luoi would have been in Gryffindor!

  • @sergioespina *loui

  • Has anyone else noticed that the Schuch's are just like the Weasleys, but opposite?? 7 children, 6 daughters and a son. How fascinating!

  • 30:31 , just marking the time so i can come back and watch tomorrow, its 3:30 am and i have school today in a couple of hours , need sleep

  • Fascinating! I think I understand Jo a little bit better now. Crying for relatives long dead... she truly is an amazing person.

  • 25:56 I melted...

  • I can say only 2 words .. Joanne Rowling !

  • 15:00 "it's actually the hogwarts library to me" xD

  • Thanks so much for uploading! BBC I Player felt that, as I'm Irish, I shouldn't get to watch this, but you changed that :) What a fantastic story that was too! I'd love to see Jo write a book about Salomé or write some kinf of a memoir about the life, seeing as she was so interested.

  • Thank you for the upload!

  • this is such a good show, very interesting :)

  • Can you imagine what would have happened if any one of her relatives did something different and Jo was never born? So many lives were touched and changed by her.

  • @ChoChangYall Genghis Khan has the same claim to fame, friendo comprendo

  • @ChoChangYall Well, she may have been born but have a differant sense of self, writing may not have been her gene etc. As a family tree climber myself I felt I was with her on her journey and honored I was invited along. I have some Swisx / german way back in my roots and border changes are a pain to figure out sometimes. This was an amazeing inspireing story..some good brave men AND some strong amazeing women.

  • @ChoChangYall

    True..but only retarded lives.

  • @bennythebearful Harry Potter is all literature, it was written more for literature than anything else. That's what makes it more than a children's story, and why it calls out to adults as well. Try reading the books .

  • @bennythebearful Harry Potter is a book series, written for a children's audience. I am not ashamed to say that I like the books, i LOVE them. I am not ashamed to say that I love Narnia. Good children's books are incredibly hard to write. They deserve much more credit. But it's a good thing that not everyone is a pretentious 'literature" snob like you. So you can go on trying to make other people feel less or dumb based on the books they like. But it's a sad thing to do

  • @lunatheawesomee

Hey why the anger? All I said is that Harry Potter is not literature. That is not an opinion. It is a fact. Great entertainment for little children though. It was not a criticism.

  • @bennythebearful A fact? You prove you don't know what literature is. Literature is every piece of written work. There are Historical Literature, Medical Literature, Scientific Literature, Religious Literature and so on. Even comic books are literature. So the fact here is that Harry Potter IS literature. Literature for children maybe, but still literature. And I'm an English Language and Literature Graduated.

  • @sonegenerationbrasil

You are "an English language and literature graduated".... I would ask for your money back...as that sentence is not English. Harry potter is a book for children.. it is not English literature.

  • @bennythebearful You are the one telling me that? Really? Make a little research, really. Even wikipedia will say the same as I do. That's common Knowledge, something we shouldn't even be discussing.

  • @sonegenerationbrasil

MAKE a little research? English is clearly not your first language...and again..I would ask for your money back. We "do" research baby... not MAKE! Wow that is extremely poor English.

  • Comment removed

  • @sonegenerationbrasil

Wikipedia is not a research source. You used wikipedia for your degree? Oh my God .. this gets worse!

  • Comment removed

  • @bennythebearful Not English? Ok, say that to Philadelphia University as well because that's exactly what they wrote on their website page... Bachelor of Arts, Teacher degree, call it as you wish, but I studied at a federal university and didnt have to pay a dime.

  • @sonegenerationbrasil

HAHA... So a third rate University wrote about "an English language and literate graduated"???? Are you sure it is not "graduate"?? Oh dear this is embarrassing.

  • @bennythebearful you are clearly a jerk who spend time doing nothing but wanking all day long and trying to grab someone's attention. Well dear, my first language is english and my second language is portuguese, and I was Majoring on English and American Language and Literature at Rutgers University, which would give me either the title of English Teacher or English and American Language and Literature Graduated. Gave it up for Computer Science. Go get yourself a book.

  • @diefanipiovezan

Yes it would make you English and American Language graduated... but it would not make you...as you wrote... AN english and american language graduated.

  • @bennythebearful and please, don't mind replying. I won't read any stupid comments from you anymore. Did you skip school? Or are you a "mommy little rich boy" who has nothing to do?
