Rejoice, O Virgin Theotokos! Mary full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb; for you have borne the Savior of our souls!
Probably the best version I've heard on YouTube. Just came back from a concert where we performed his Vigil (all of it) and I must say this is one of the peaks of that work. Notwithstanding, the whole piece is pure genius.
@Mirei6 Actually, no. It's a derivative of the Slavic language family called Church Slavonic. It's like Church Latin is to Italian; the church language was kept "pure" by the clergy, while the vernacular continued to evolve as languages do.
We sang this piece but in Latin. We wanted to sing it in Russian but we only had two rehearsals to learn it in and the pronunciation of Latin was simpler. It's a real stunner - I love the 'hora pro nobis' (sorry, don't know the Russian) crescendo!
What's the problem ? Russian language? We are italians, and we did a whole concert of russian choirs...(we sung also this one, the original title is:"Bogoroditze devo") More, our director wished we learn to read cyrillic from the original scores,so for a pair of months, a bulgarian soprano, teacher of russian language, taught us cyrillic and his pronunciation. And in Germany now there are so many russian people who could help you!!
i wish we could sing it this way in our christmas scool choir.. sounds beautiful.. but i think they all don't like it, because we're german and no .. russian (?) but it's so great!
This is one of the peices my choir sings at church except we sing it in latin and it's always been my favorite Ave Maria!!
