If you know the background of ken and ryu (pronounced you btw) you'd know that they studied under the same master so therefore have the same moves but different levels of power ryu is stronger while ken is quicker.

Japanese pronounce Ryu as a rolling R, y as in You, and the u is similar to the ou in you, where the weight is on the Y. So if you were to spell it so americans would pronounce it correctly, it would be something like Ry'ou.
