That's more like a knife. It's a secondary weapon but when people talk about a samurai sword their not talking about a wakizashi. For example navy seals use a rifle as their primary weapon and a hand gun as a secondary weapon. Neither wakizashis nor hand guns are optimal weapons for combat. But they are carried just in case the primary weapon breaks or jams.
the kanji for "katana" is the same as the kanji for "to" in "tanto".
"tan" means short. "to" means blade. It probably refers to wakizashi. Just give up dude.... Samurai sword always refers to the long sword that samurais used tot use.
katana is the long sword, of which there were a couple of different varieties, wakizashi was the short sword that samurai carried along with the katana much longer than tanto, a tanto was a small blade, like a knife basically

That's more like a knife. It's a secondary weapon but when people talk about a samurai sword their not talking about a wakizashi. For example navy seals use a rifle as their primary weapon and a hand gun as a secondary weapon. Neither wakizashis nor hand guns are optimal weapons for combat. But they are carried just in case the primary weapon breaks or jams.

Hindsight is 20/20. Yes the student's actions were 100% justified because AT THE TIME he had no idea if the intruder was armed or not. Additionally, the intruder lunged at him when they met.
It's easy to say afterwards that "oh well the intruder wasn't armed so it was wrong to kill him" but you never know if an intruder is armed or not when you're getting robbed.
Also why would you need to call the police to defend your own property?
