  • you haven't really worked on a car if you haven't had rust in your eye.

  • Thanks so much for the video I was stuck with starter problem it just clicked once and then wont spin at all to start the car, I disconnected the connectors cleaned them and it was all good aft3r that.

  • dude, i think thor tightens every bolt on the starters, he did on mine XD

  • Great and excellent production for a self made how-to video. Not only were you funny, and savvy, but also sexy. Stunning blue eyes and nice biceps.

You saved me money and made me smile. ; )

  • My favorite Sarcastic line: 2:25 thru 2:38....Classic!!!.....Awesome!!

  • Absolutely Marvelous Info Subfightr...Thanks.....I Can Do This! lol!

  • hahaha he said bust this nut!!

  • Oh u said to criticise, so real quick i'll just say, you didn't really mention what to do about the solenoid.

  • Be careful, the starter will smash your face...haha...You seem like a funny dude. you should do a episode with removing a radiator front mount.

  • HAHA! 6:37 That's what she said!

  • Thank you so much for the tutorial! I almost had to remove the alternator in my wife's van (it's showing its age!), when a mechanic friend of mine told me to whack the starter with a hammer to see if it turns over. I did, and the van fired up. So, what I have to do is remove the starter and take it to my son's job at AutoZone to test it. It could be the solenoids. It could be the starter itself. I won't know until they test it. Now, I just have to get it out first. :)

  • @hawktb9 damn newer cars. I know what you mean, I swear they do that just to piss us shade tree mechanics off. I can see the designers of the cars laughing as they draw up the blue prints now "LOL hey Joe! Look where I put the starter! It will take them twice as long! WA HA HA!!" ... :( Good luck with that starter/solenoid man. Good for you for doing it yourself! :)

  • @hawktb9

I will hit it with a hammer. damn thing. thanks.

  • Very well done. and entertaining

  • @runswimsc thank you for taking the time to comment and kind words

  • hmm, my car--98 gmc suburban--doesn't make a grinding noise, it makes a clicking noise (one click) and nothing else. thanks for the info!

  • finally a "how to" video that is actually informitive. as far as working on cars goes, i'm a dumbass. i actually learned something here, and was sucessful. thank you for your help!!!

  • you just saved my vacation! Thank you! :)

  • @MichaelCasanovaMusic YAY!! Way to go on changing your own starter! Congrats.

  • mine is a 1999 chevy lumina and it makes a loud grinding noise? could i remove it and put it back on cuz i almost got into a wreak on the left front side my headlight is smashed and the hit mit have took out the starter a little bit and every time i use it i falls out a bit till it can't work i think so i mite need to be placed in further to connect is that right??? rite bac thks ill subscribe :)

  • @Zug75 It couldnt hurt removing it, the starter should not move though. Some starters do have "shims" like washers all stacked up to make the starter fit correctly, that may be an issue, The starter falls out a bit?! Are the threads stripped? You could get a product called "locktight", small tube bout 3 bucks, put it on the threads and that SHOULD prevent the starter from backing out if its due to the threads.

  • Excellent video, thank you. I dig your attitude, too.

I think I recognize that van: a Econoline, yeah? Mine's a 1980 Econoline, and made that same horrible grinding noise. With your video, and ESPECIALLY that excellent tool, removal of the starter was easy.

That tool is HARD to find, only Wal-Mart has one ($23), out of 6 hardware and auto places.

  • @gregallensworth AW ya made my day dude! :) So glad I was able to help you out! Yep good eye its an Econoline. Yeah I love that tool, sadly due to the fact that I love it so much I lose it a lot.. thus i have like 3... somewhere lol. Yeah I have only found it at walmart. If there is anything else I can help you with I would be honored to give it a shot for ya, I'm sure that van could use another video. Thanks for commenting.

  • @Subfightr, good video man! Helped me out with my Jeep cherokee! 5 starts!

  • @0verdose666 Awesome! Glad to help. Thanks for saying thanks :)

  • Good video, I like how you threw away the instructions LOL.

  • @Aztech355 Glad you liked it :)

  • Very informative. And when you add that sense of humor, it encourages others to get in there and get dirty . Thanks

  • @whatonewhichtwo Thank you very much friend :)

  • Lol love all the safety tips thanks:)

  • This is the best video I've seen. I definately need that tool that you got from WalMart. I cannot get that top nut off!! Also having trouble with the wire on the top with the nut. What tool did you use for that?

  • @askmomshesright Yeah I was surprised how stuck the nut was on top of the wire. The tool I used to remove it is called a "ratcheting wrench" but a normal wrench will do, this will just save some time, though it is a tad fatter than your average wrench so it does not fit in places like the normal wrench will. As you see I had to strike the wrench to break the nut free. Try adding a pipe to the wrench for leverage, or link another wrench on if you don't have a pipe to fit over the wrench.

  • hahaha 2.25

  • Thanks for the vid

  • @TwentyCharacterLimit : Thank you so much for your comment. I hope it helps. GOOD LUCK! You can do it.

  • @Subfightr Fingers crossed mate...I'll manage

  • I just sat here drinking beer watching you work for ten minutes, I guess you could call me your supervisor. lol. if I ever get a 1974 van with a busted starter I'll revisit this video. for real though...cant you get the starter rebuilt?

  • @Slapnuts6931 :)

You mean a re-manned/rebuilt starter? Or actually take that starter in and have it rebuilt/rebuild it yourself? I assume you can, I have never tried it, in fact this is the first time I actually bought a new/re-manufactured one ($50), I normally just rip one from another vehicle in a wrecking yard then have it tested for free to make sure it's good. Thanks for watching and commenting bro, means a lot to me, I like you.

  • I like videos like yours, useful, practical. Good decision to make it.
