Here's something I've been thinking about for a while that's been a bit hard for me to come to terms with:
It's easy for me to understand how atheism occurs, since it's just the disbelief of a god and what-not, but what's really difficult for me to get is how a person who was raised with a certain religion can change to an even stranger one.
All that ever comes to mind is an act of convenience, even though people bend their own religious rules a lot anyway...

@doombow666 Yes, but as I've stated before the person of 'faith', has a god portion of the brain.
This portion of the brain has been shown under independent scientific research to actually stop functioning,
this is why I always refer to xtians as 'brain dead', for a portion of their brain does in fact shut down and stops functioning correctly.
This is why xtians can discuss things up to a point, and then completely shut down, and you are no longer able to rationally communicate with them.

@waterandphotons1 haha ive never heard of that, funny though XD I do know that when faced with making a decision, we have a portion of the brain that deals with emotion (front lobe) and 1 that deals with logic (side of brain). A critical thinker will often use the logical part to solve a problem (its the part that handles math) while a religious person will most often use the part of the brain that handles emotion to solve the same problem.

Yes, I understand that he mentioned that "If Big Bang is correct then god is the impact of two asteroids.", which was really incorrect, and I do understand his points were not the best. After re-watching this video. I now get a better understanding that his points were proving nothing, nothing what so ever. Now I have been thinking for a while of how I am going to respond to this, and I am really not sure. But just take a look at what you believe in.. Weird question considering your an atheist

The point the AE was trying to show was that this person was claiming to be a scientist therefore having a PhD in Science, and is not even able to put together a letter using decent grammar, in other words a typical lying xtian!
The content of the 'letter' is also so flawed it is ridiculous.

@theUKatheist @landoftranscendence holy shit. so much academic fail. no, abstract non-linear reasoning is not ENTIRELY limited to the right hemisphere of our brain, and no, we don't use 5% of our brain. the brain is always 100% engaged and active. how do you think most of the brain could switch off, as organic, cellular matter? so while one of you is talking pseudo-neuroscience, the other is arguing a different kind of pseudoscience. the right hemisphere is also logical, but in a different way.

@theUKatheist i would like to take the opportunity to explain to you that your statement "its common knowledge that we dont use most of the brain. not that its not active, we just dont access it" is a pop psychology myth. it's a commonly misused 'funfact' outside the field of cognitive neuroscience that i hate seeing go round. a) it is impossible to measure the 'quantity of data accessed by the brain'. b) the brain is 100% engaged at all times - failure to do so is called *brain death* :-)

Here's something I've been thinking about for a while that's been a bit hard for me to come to terms with:
It's easy for me to understand how atheism occurs, since it's just the disbelief of a god and what-not, but what's really difficult for me to get is how a person who was raised with a certain religion can change to an even stranger one.
All that ever comes to mind is an act of convenience, even though people bend their own religious rules a lot anyway...

why? because there is absolutely no evidence. what religious people do not realise is most atheists actually study the religion they believe in and we know more. every single argument or peace of evidence religious people think is true we can logically explain why it is not. all we ask is to show evidence of god, until this happens we simply have no reason to believe, just like unicorns,dragons and fairies. there's no proof :)

@theUKatheist Exactly! That's why it's loads easier for me to understand atheists. As for myself, I don't really know how to put a label on it. The only thing that I could sort of assume would come close to me is agnosticism, but I honestly just don't like putting a lot of mind to it.
... it's probably because of how agitated people get about the topic.
