The company returned in a fine huntsmen's procession of quivering hounds and servants bearing the booty of 'stags and wild goats' in triumph.

  • a little known fact alabama broke up for about a year over this song..teddy did not want to do this song with lionel because he said it was pop & not country..and that is when he & randy stopped talking for a while...seen them perform it with lionel richie one time when it first came out...think it was the AMA'S or the grammy's..love to see that performance again....it's an awsome tune

  • i never seem to hear this song on the radio. thanks for posting it here. love this one. mountainbliss1

  • Robertrlude....I agree with you completely...great song and harmony...wish Lionel and Alabama had recorded more songs together.

  • This song carries one of the deepest emotional messages of any I’ve heard; of a longing for, and a want to get back to a better place; a place of true and deep friendship. The vocal harmony of Alabama, the soothing guitar work, combined with the sultry tenor that is Lionel Richie is one that cannot, and has not been repeated since. It is indeed a timeless classic.

  • tem que ser lionel o incrivel lionel

  • REMINDS ME OF MY SISTER GEE

  • Lionel Richie wrote the lyrics to the song. In 1986 Alabama started performing the song on one of the music award shows. Out walked Lionel Richie and together they performed this great romantic crossover. I love most types of music and Alabama and Lionel Richie rate at the top of my list as great talents, pioneers and legends.

  • Ooooooh yes i love this song.So many memories comes across my mind whenever its played on the radio

  • Absolute GOLD!!!

  • Beautiful.......One of my most cherished memories is because of this song.

  • One of the most soothing voices ever !

  • Yes this is Lionel Richie's best country song (or the only country song he ever sang). But this was Alabama's original song. Richie was a guest singer. Note that.

  • @utube9user stuck on you also was on the country charts and lionel richie sang that by himself. the actually single 45 had him in a cowboy hat. don't forget lionel's from Tuskgee Alabama. I would love to see him do a total country album. He's one of my favorite artist from the 80's and when he was with the commodores.

  • i remember this well!!! sounds so goooodddd!!!

  • This is one of Lionel's best songs ever and is a far better "country" song than anything on the radio today. The great harmony vocals by Alabama bring this song to a new level. Nobody on the charts today has the talent to write songs of this calibre anymore. Lionel was a master at writing awesome love songs with great melodies.

This song reminds me of my Mom, it was one of her favorites.

  • Can't get enough of this!!!Simply awesome!

  • if you don't appreciate this song, you can never understyand easy listening!

  • Love that song!

  • As awesome as when it was new!

  • SONG OF MY TRUE LOVE!!

  • This was Lionel Richie's only top 10 country hit.

  • Very good song. One of the best songs in the world!!!! it means so much to me!

    With love!/ jk

  • an excellent singer, no matter the platform

  • amazing!!!

  • amazing!!!

  • One of my all-time favorites.

  • This song is truely amazing!!!

  • Lionel was backed by the singin' members of Alabama. Hit #10 country, #71 pop, in Billboard, God bless ya, brother Lionel!

  • Proud to be from Alalbama which has produced some great singers.btw ROLL TIDE ROLL

  • @lueylaw I agree. I'm from there too.

  • maybe randy owens n lionel could hook up n do one more!! great song, seen it live at june jam in fort payne, al in the 80's

  • It would be interesting to know the history of this song, I mean, where did the idea of deep river woman come from? What is a deep river woman? Maybe it means smooth sailing ahead because the river is deep enough, so they don't run aground. I don't know?? Beautiful song, one of my favorite. I love the guitar intro and outro. And looked this song up just to learn it. About every time I pick up my guitar, I found myself trying to figure out that intro without having the song handy. Utube Rocks

  • @ILTSYC your like deep thoghts of sat nite live .. your right thogh

  • @ILTSYC I always thought of a guy coming back home to his "only girl I've ever cared for in this world.." I think that his girl lives in a cool bungalow or cabin by a deep river.

  • Lionel Ritchie is so talented he could crossover with any genre of music. Alabama had many beautiful ballads.

  • beautiful music, harmonies and singing...a favourite :)

  • Absolutely beautiful! I have chills!!

  • it's a nice song, LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of my all time favorites!!!

  • I wouldn't classify this as country, great song and harmony, and Alabama certainly has sounded good on many different occasions!

  • one of the greatest songs of all time. perfect.

  • i grew up listening to alabama and lionel richie both in their respective formats but when the two came together....SUCOTASH! one of the greatest duo's ever. thanks guys.....bk

  • Very well done. i really enjoy how the two artisist harmonize

  • its time for alabama n lionel part 2 !!!!!!!!!

  • @RJiminez51 Come On! Alabama is AWESOME!!!

  • @RJiminez51 Lionel is part country. He has admitted that in several interviews- it is impossible to grow up in Alabama and not be influenced by country music to some degree.

  • @RJiminez51 ...oh, noooo, man.... I'm almost strictly and R&B guy, and I KNOW that statement just isn't true. Alabama's harmonies were SO TIGHT back in the day! I used to sit there and wonder, as a teen, why some of their songs would get stuck in my head!! And I figured out why soon enough; songs like "The Closer You Get" were actually soulful!! Yes. It's true. So.... while I'm no Country fan, I do know that Alabama are something special in that genre. And they sound good ALL the time!

  • One of the best ballads EVER created.

  • I like Lionel Richie and Alabama working together.

  • gives me goosebumps

  • This is a great song by great artists and the combo is great because all those ethnocentric people get to hear true music which transcends genre prejudices. It is the only way to get some black folks to listen to country music which is truly soul music of the south.

  • @MeandXYZ Black people listen to country music a lot and all the time..they hardley ever go to the country concerts tho..I have no idea why that is..at the downtown Budweiser HoeDown here ..tons of black standing around for hours digging on the music and line dancing.Guess it depends were the country acts are at that brings them out..I hate to go here but..I bee nto a lot of country concerts.I had whites ask me ..Why are you here?WTF .Why hey think I shouldn't be there for some reason?

  • @MRJACKSON19581 My besty from school, was black and he hated (as he put it, not I) "Nigger music". He only likes country. So, rock on! -Amanda

  • @barbidoll0 What is ngger music.. people called Elvis music Nigger music..

  • @MRJACKSON19581 lol You would have to ask him that. What I think he meant, though, was songs that have fould language and degrade women.

  • @barbidoll0 *foul

  • @barbidoll0 YEP ...PEOPLE WHO SAY STUPID SHIT LIKE HE DID..ARE DOING IT FOR ATTENTION ..AND HE SHOULD BE LOOKED DOWN ON>. I DON'T SAY STUPID SHIT FOR ATTENTION.IF MY SHIT COMES OUT SOUNDING STUPID TO SOMEONE..IS CAUSE THEY JUST WANNA SAY ITS STUPID... YIKES

  • @MRJACKSON19581 You make me wanna puke. Be gone! Consider yourself flagged.

  • @barbidoll0 WHAT

  • @barbidoll0 ..I reather not ask ignorant people who are time wasters questions... Peole like him have no place i nmy life ..Yhey say things stupid cause they're Attentionwhores..

    Have a blessed day!

  • @MRJACKSON19581 You looking down on someone, for what they believe in, is just as ignorant. We all have the right, to say and think whatever we want. Just thought, I'd point that out.

  • @MRJACKSON19581 one time we was hanging out around town and some black guy we knew pulled up and talked for a minute.before they left they turned up the system in their car and started bumpin "no getting over me" by ronnie milsap and drove off lmao

  • @osp80 To this day I play that song There AintNo Geting Over Me-By Ronnie..I even listens to hsi Gospel stuff now always loved his voice saw him in concert back in the early 90 s ..Hes awesome.

  • @MeandXYZ I could not agree with u more, and I am not black but asian who has grown up with the likes of Lionel's music from 197 onwards although I listen and enjoy all kinds of music ,I relate mo0re to Mowtown music and my favourite is Lionel Richie as solo and when he was with the Commadores

  • Keep the music flowing, Lionel.

  • brill song

  • This is great with Alabama singing the background. He and the group made one of a hell of a hit on both charts!

  • I am from the small Northern Ontario town of Deep River, and this song is awesome!

  • great song brings memories of home!

  • it has an instrument that sounds like "stuck on you''

  • @Allyn03 You are right. I think it is the same key too.

  • A true artist. R & B roots? Maybe, but grew up in the deep south with all those C *& W and Bluegrass influences. It's great when some doesn't confine themselves to just one genre. That's what made Ray Charles so great. He did it all. Jazz, beebop, R & B, gospel, and C & W.

  • @roquey44

Hmmm...I don't recall Ray Charles' Bebop efforts.

  • this was a little known song, but i liked it even though it sounds country

  • I thought he did this song with Alabama...a country singing group (that is why the country sound ?)

Although it was an easy fusion cause it really sounded like something either one of them could record...

  • @chowitis he did they are singing on this track.if you listen to stuck on you it has a country feel to it.also he wrote lady for kenny rogers who is absolutely a country singer.lionel is nothing but versatile a true talent that you wont see again when he,s gone!

  • @dpkvwells theres alot of lionels songs that have a country influence , but you know , growing up in alabama , you really cant avoid it

  • @bluesman32783- Wasn't the group Alabama backing up Lionel on this tune?

  • @Maltese280zx indeed

  • It was been a great song when I was in primary school. Richie has been blessed with great talents.

  • Richie was my favorite singer during my college days.and hearing his deep river woman reminds me of the days when i fell in love with a girl and thought she was anticipating my love though this was not true. Funny, isn't it? But yough days are rarely not fun and unforgetable.

  • Lionel's voice blended perfectly with the harmonies of Alabama. Great song!

  • Yep, they're all Alabama-bred!

  • @seminolechief omg! i so agree. they should've done more together.

  • This song is one of his best! Great vocal.

  • Stop typing with your cock !

  • this song bring back same realy good times for me when i was younger and i love it

  • One of the most beautiful songs out there.
