Nope, he is fully automatized in terms of targeting and firing. It can be operated by only 2 soldiers, but standard french artillery unit are 4 mens.

Caesar is the fastest artillery in deployment, it is fully automated, receives coordonnates automaticaly, with manual override if needed. The Caesar is so fast that when rounds hit the targets, it already left the area.

All in all, the best artillery is the German PzH2000 (not a serbian or another american stuff), but with 55t, this isn't an artillery that you can deploy easily..

As far as the Caesar vs. Archer argument goes, if I was leader of a medium sized country with threatening neighbors, but I didn't otherwise expect to deploy my forces overseas that often, I would 100% go for the Archer.

@lundholm4 First, the ceasar is the faster system of his category. The vehicle can change his position before the hit. It makes it impossible to be hit by an other artillery (or the other side need a CRAZY luck...).

Then, an artillery isn't made to be on the front-line of the battlefield...

Even Serbian "NORA-B52-K0" is much faster than this thing!!! And it has SELF-PROPELLED 155mm GUN-HOWITZER, inside cab automated firing controls... Only on a rate of fire, Archer is better, in others Caesar is :

-less mechanisms, less failures

-more men who can replace an other, not a mechanism

-possibility of continuous shooting for Caesar, Archer once emptied its magazine need to recharge (during this time it's not operational).

-ability to climb more better for Caesar cause mass better distributed than the Archer (on the 2 extremities). Some pb when climbing or an extremity blocked.

-best inclination of fire for Caesar

Not the Archer is not better, it is a calf which weighs more than thirty tons. An imitation, one more and this costing nearly 10 times more expensive.

This system looks ok, but it kinda sucks that the crew has to dismount to fire it. I think that the BAE Archer is probably better in that respect. Everything is controlled from inside the cab.

These are probably less expensive to buy though. Still get the job done.

Anyway, it is a very little detail, the sabots are still in fly to their zone of impact while the crew move again.

The most important is that CAESAR is digitaly linked to central combat systems so the crew doesn't have to enter any coordonates. It aims and fire on its own, while the crew reload and cover the aera.

The archer is 30 T you dumbwit. Two completely different platform. The Caesar is half the weight and is far more maneuvrable and transportable.

The Volvo chassis that the Archer is based on is designed for extreme off road use in mining applications, and is articulating, so I don't think Caesar could compete with it off road. The Archer is NBC enclosed, and fired from inside. The Archer also has a 20 round magazine, which the crew can empty without exiting the cab. All of which the Caesar cannot. I would say that the price difference and weight are the only pros to the Caesar.

You are comparing oranges with apples. The Archer is like a poor-man self-propelled Howitzer. It weighs a bit less but its large volume make it rather useless on a strategic level. The Caesar is a very different concept. It's basically a gun attached to a truck to increase mobility and ease logistic. It's a very strategic weapon than can be easily deployed anywhere.

The brit's used smaller ones on Jeeps in fighting the Afrika korps ...they ( the LRDG ) had some real good sporadic results on the battlefield ..

so : we built a bigger model , faster , with a bigger bore and a longer range ...

much more reliable .

S'il ne tire pas c'est que ce n'est pas l'objectif de la démonstration. L'objectif est de montrer la rapidité de mise en oeuvre du caesar, et sa capacité de repli. Les intervenants ont déjà vu un canon de 155mm tiré, ce n'est pas ça l'important. Cette démonstration est faite pour exporter le matériel d'ou les traductions derrières, et ça suffit.

That's the point of the CAESAR, it's a light anti-counter artillery cannon. Firing his shots and then quickly moving away from the firing sight to avoid ennemy counter-artillery shots.
