@slipher87 I am sick of ppl like you trying to determine my race. I love my family. I love my mom, grandmother, father, grandfather and they are beautiful. Its always the africans that say you aren't one of them just because I have light skin, long curly hair, light eyes doesn't mean im not african. But you know what my mom and aunt told me if I was to go to africa I wouldn't be considered african or they would say im not black enough. You just need to shut up. I love my multi- racial family.
@brownb6 listen is the caucasian do you know in europe there is much different type of white ppl as africans you is like a white tribe with different type of white from east west south north central europe but they all white so is africa sudanese on all african is black africans europe is a white continent with almost nuthing but different set of europeans like albanians germans russian u name it africa oppose it with africans like moraccan somalians so dont think we stupid we divided now
@slipher87 u need to shut the fuck up. You are completely pissing me off talking bout who's not african and who is AA are african. We were just born in american and that's where the name comes from you idiot. You are a racist anyway, you just hate african americans if we are mixed or not that doesn't matter we still have african blood. Ever heard of the one drop rule. I am mixed with all kinds of things but I still consider myself to be african and I am proud of it.
I think African Americans are a JOKE!! In the 60s and 70s when you were looking for an identity, the thought of not being considered "Afro-American" or "African American" would've added insult to the injury of the discrimination to which you'd been subjected to. Now, all of a sudden you've established yourselves and attained a measure of acceptance and you start making asinine statements like "I'm Black, I'm not African".
When I first got to America, some buffoons in your ranks would ask me, "Oh! Why d'yall Africans think you're better than us?" At that time, before I understood the pathology that afflict some (not all) of you, I'd go to superlative lengths to try and dispel that notion. But, now I'd like to ask, "What makes YOU, African Americans, think Africans who come to America should be subservient to you? Do you expect us to come here genuflecting to you or something?"
@Titoscudd but you africans are way beautiful than us i was born in jamaica as a black man compare to africans african/americans includes america on the islands you guys look more pretty on more natural dont get me wrong some girls especially the black trinidadian on guyanese even jamaica grenada on other place will give you guys a run for there money lol
@Titoscudd I met a man from Ghana. He told me that I had no right to call myself African-American since I had no existing family anywhere in Africa! That type of talk does not make me feel the history of the American-Africans-Blacks- 'Negroes' is understood. It almost seems as if the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade has not been taught in many African schools and therefore no knowledge of the American-Africans' past is considered relevant! Isn't this troubling in a Pan-African context?
You've highlighted a salient issue. If you went to MANY African countries today and inquired as to their knowledge of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, you're likely to get a response like this, "Oh! I HEARD that some people were taken from here as slaves, then William Wilberforce fought for their freedom and now they're free." Ask them if they'd ever heard the term "trans-Atlantic Slave Trade" and it's likely that they'll say "No." Talk less of the details and travails of it.
@Titoscudd Exactly. We desperately need more Afrikan film makers to tell the various histories of enslavement. I just found out (unmixed) Afrikans of Madagascar were transported to Capetown, South Africa in 1766 Slave Ship Mutiny" - PBS. This would be an East Afrikan trade to West Afrika which obviously skews the numbers of so-called West Afrikans enslaved in the Trans-Atlantic trade! It never occurred to me that Afrikan-Americans should include Madagascar as possible ancestry!
Even I had little or no knowledge of it or the way Africans in the diaspora had been treated in the West until I visited Western nations. In fact, we are taught such historical distortions as "Mongo Park DISCOVERED the confluence of the Rivers Niger and Benue" whereas, Africans had been fishing those waters LOOOONG before Mongo Park was born in Britain. And this narrative was taught in post-colonial African schools by African teachers and curriculum.
In fact, I find it rather strange that a Ghanaian would tell you that because, of all the West African states, Ghana is the most welcoming of diasporans. And this is because of the work of their first Prime Minister, Kwame Nkurumah who made an effort particularly to attract African Americans back to come to Ghana. Thus, Ghana is the "Black Star" state, named after Marcus Garvey's Black Star. In fact, many African Americans have relocated there.
@Titoscudd It took my breath away when he said this to me! I thought for a moment his intent was political in some way as if too many of the Diaspora were showing up with hands out expecting a return while perhaps not having skills to offer in advancing the nation as a whole. I guess my question is "If we have no right to claim Afrika" then how can can Pan-Afrikanism remain viable? Are we of the Diaspora being naive and romantic about Afrika? I am confused...and a little suspicious...
The fact that this we have allowed this ignorance and disinformation to persist even in post-colonial years speaks to a failure on our part as Africans to FIGHT HARD to teach our children our own narrative of history. Just as the West goes to superlative lengths to ensure that theirs, even if biased, flawed or out rightly false, is the prevalent narrative. Is it not even a greater tragedy that we, without the lash of the colonial master, still teach our children these distortions?
It is funny how African Americans only invoke thier African Heritage when there is something to gain from it and dismiss it when it comes to showing any kinship to African Immigrants in thier vincinity. Welcome to America. The land of the truly ignorant. I'm a WM from the States. I've dated many African American and African Immigrant girls. The African Immigrant girls were so much warmer, kinder and showed more strength and dignity of character. Sorry for our own locals making you suffer this.
@MichaelPAUSA thank you its true african woman is more gently have more pride that the so called african american all am dating is african ppl from now on am a african from jamaica thats all what i am
@lparmer66 Jewish-American. German-American. Italian-American. Irish-American. Latino-American. Spanish-American. Arab-American, etc., but not Afrikan-American? What the ....?
There is so much I would like to tell you.You seem to be so confused as if you don't know the true weight of the offense that is still being put upon blacks. It looks like you have fallen for the lie. There are clubs that even oprah winfrey cannot be a member of because she is black. You sound like you really don't know what has happen here. black immigrants came taking advantage of the fruits of our struggle. Then were convinced that it was over.We don't have the luxury of believing that its over
First you must understand that No black american can ever be racist. We still have to be careful. Many black americans are having reactions to what they are enduring in real life. Whites are still very much abusing blacks on jobs, banks, business, physical, judistrial. Blacks are still having a hard time. The media paints a different picture. But blacks are still suffering in many cases. for example, a black man cant jog at dusk without possibly becoming a victim of police brutality or profiling
The only way you could not see the frustration in african americans would be that you are not really an african american. You speak more like a jamaican canadian from montreal. certainly at the time that you were in school, there must of been a movement concerning black americans that caused this young man to approach you with the comment " if you are not with us you are against us. There is so much you don't know. though you seem to be intelligent. But you lack wisdom about this matter.
@cocoaton what you mean jamaica is a black nation 80 percent of jamaican is african the last time i check jamaica on haiti is the closest resembles the africans we dont mix like african american on most of the islands but what am saying the only way a person would feel this there genes is not link to africa she think she look good to be even be african please tell this to the east africans lmfao way better looking than them even white people want our african sisters
@cocoaton exactly i agree on that one any black ppl that is not with us is against us listen african american on the islands need to merge together so we can show how african sisters on brothers that we are really for them
thats a small group of black americans that feel that way. They have been the victims of the mass indoctrination that took place for many years. whites telling us africans think they are superior and african american saying the same. We know that many blacks are mixed with white blood. This is another scar from slavery. The masters had many bed wenches that they made pregnant. This is just more horrible history stemming from slavery. You seem to be angry. what is your point.
@cocoaton@cocoaton oh thats a very good point i think is ppl with mix white blood thing different a true african american would embrace their heritage am from jamaica from ever since i was born on heard about africa i knew thats where i belong on planing to go back there soon
i dont like when SOME african american's call themselves african american when they make fun of african's and say mean things about africa. WHY call yourselve an african american if u dont even want to be african? or even want to know about your heritage? that pisses me off. By the way, my mother is full african and my dad is white american. I consider myself an "African American" and i am proud. IM INLOVE WITH AFRICA its ridiculous...
@misskaneza then you are on half breed lol u obsessed with afrtica like the white man only true african can love africa am jamaican am 100 percent dont need dna to tell me that africans is a pure race on till white arrived with arabs all different black race is pure i hate this mixing shit i swear
@slipher87 lol i don't care what you think. My mother is full african. i came out of her. i was born in africa and raised there. i speak an african language, african people say I'm african so i don't need you to tell me who i al. yes i have a white father and what? people still see me as black.
i love what u side that it is a two-way thing. f**k edgar for being racist (racism is also applicable if u r black that hates other races even whites). baby i feel ur pain. being an african that grew up in a multi-cultural city, i have love for all people, and i am surprised that some of our black folks disgrace themselves on the basis of origin, nationality, etc. we should love personality and shun prejudices. black, white, asian, hispanic all bleed RED blood. i luv u all, please change d world
Spokenlife, I LOVED your reply to that Edgar in the cafetaria. And who cares if they didn't like you, just by reading these comments, there are several ppl who like you, and I'm DEFINITELY one of them.
Not being ashamed of myself, I can't imagine that anyone would be ashamed of being whatever they are. I personally am just not interested in labels. I am me. What you are, you are. Be happy. I also will not buy into any of those other labels you just applied to a total stranger. Peace and respect to you always.
Nawl you black bitch - you shut the fuck up as you cough and regurgitate and choke off the foul smelling shit that comes out of your mouth that is living in your heart which is the depth of your filthy living soul NIGGA
I am african and not a black, there is a huge difference, Where I come from we dont call ourselves black but african, Just because Black americans accepted to be tagged blacks by their white people doesnt mean i have to be called one.
lol... i just love to laugh at uneducated fools like you, africa is NOT a fucking country you dumb ass it's a continent, there's genocide in dafur Uganda(bet u've never heard of it retard) doesn't mean there's genocide in south africa, Nigeria dumb fuck how about u go to skul and get some knowledge, i've got a degree in electrical engineering ur dumb brain can't say the same.

@ikn001 i agree with africans i see in africa they have different varities of black from libya to moraco to uganda e.tc black is not the right term am native of jamaica but am truly african
Spokenlife, you couldnt have said it better. When i was living in Africa,we were taught about MLK Jnr.I thought i was considered black too.Until i came to America.Blacks didnt think i was even qualified to be black!
Now i don't consider myself black.i am simply AFRICAN and proud of it.I dont look down on AA,but i feel bad the race that suffered most under other races despise themselves so much. Its the biggest irony of our time.
@zweeterion lol they dont know what black is but all africa is black from libya to maroco jamaica on haiti roots traced back to africa on still is the strongest like of african rasta ppl in jamaica believe sellasiei of ethiopia on thats what they believe they confuse please you africans need to teach them what black is they ignorant on confuse contact me@ +1347-506-8220 my name is horace
Africans and the term African is a term used to describe one group of people seen as not counting. African holds vague meaning. If you want to call yourself that, fine. You aren't specifically claiming Senegal, Ghana, Niger, Mali, Gambia, Benin, Nigeria, Togo or any other place. You place a Continent as you Adjective in front of your Noun.
@Mecc07 please these dumb african american fools i was born in jamaica they say west indians for the ppl in the islands which the ppl in the west indies is has no mixture african american is more mix than any other black race that came out of africa haiti is the closest follow jamaica in african people
Thers a larger percentage of Africans in Africans that have pure anything..actually the planet is not pure..this planet has been mixing way before North America was thought of..with that said I still consider myself a stolen Afrikan in America and my ancestory is very much so Afrikan..Blacks in America have this confusion because the white man raped us of our heritage..I have white in my family but that is due to rape on my father mother side..I'm not repping no European in me..
@PeterParkerman thats true sister its like saying the sudanese moracco on other groups of country in the continent of africa is mix cuz they have straight long hair with dark skin smfh
All i know is African americans should never be called Africans...they should just call themselves americans cos they know nothing about africa, they are nothing like africans, and are ashamed of who they are.
you just put us all in one box and make the generalization that "blacks in america dont know anything about africa" well let me tell you that is NOT true i just so happen to be one of those "african americans" in the states who knows alot about africa and its really depressing that you want to try to divide blacks even further from their ancestory well just let me give you an idea that when i took my african ancestory test i traced my roots back to CAMEROON we are NOT all igonrant
Oh please spare that flimsy story, you guys are as ignorant as it gets, even whites are more curious about africa than black americans. You guys dont care a hoot and its just unfortunate!
like i said before we are NOT all ignorant some of us DO care but YOU need to open up your mind a little more for the people who DO care and dont mind the ones who DONT get over yourself and stop this arrogence
@ikn001@ikn001 thank you am one african that never been in africa will die for my land africa belongs to africans marcus mosiah speak they never listen to prophet that came on die
@kemetkush i agree i love all my african people am a native of jamaica black cute guy on my african girl love me you got to be on african to understand this all my west africans east africans south africans north africans on central aficans
@ikn001 i agree with that but remember why you worrying about the african jamaicans on african haitians we have not been mixed thats why you see most store in new york it says african jamaica on haiti probably african american is not part of us
@ikn001 the african-americans love the african-people, we are one, the enemy of all black-people want us to hate each-other......wake up my black-people.....we need each-other....
I really like your video spokenlife, you are truly speaking wisdom! And don't let that system crap about "black" or "white" bother you, cause that ain't true. We believe that not just all humans are equal, but all of LIFE is equal. Focusing only on blacks, on whites, or any other so-called "class" of people, does nothing but divide us when we got to come closer together than ever. ONA MOVE!!!
If anything African-Americans are the ones who are ashamed that they have a relation with Africans....I am Nigerian and I was raised in Detroit Michigan and everytime I have gotten into an argument with an African American they talk bad on how I'm African and disrespect my heritage where I'm from.
I know that's true. I don't remember everything I talked about in this vid (it was quite a while ago), but I remember in college that many black students I knew just didn't want to be "confused with" the African students. It bugged me then and it bugs me now. But it's oh so true.
but the true facts are ,the AA are called AA not by choice but by force.aint nobody is going to call them Americans .i think some AA who thinks the way they think are simply stupid.
@spokenlife I am old enough to remember Haille Selassie commending Negroes of Afrikan descent showing support for Ethiopia when the Italians invaded. My point is I did not know at the time that even Afrikans referred to Black Americans as Negroes of Afrikan descent. When Europeans say it I don't get it at all but when Honorable Selassie said it I was floored! It seems that he made a distinction between East Afrikans and West Afrikans of the slave trade. What do you think?
@sitabanu i dont think king selassiei means no harm what i think we african descendant i talk to alot of africans from the east like ethiopians etriea kenya the think is the way we act they like us its we african descendant make everything bad we all one africans whether u east africans are west africans are south are north on central africans we are all black africans when people say something bad against there own ppl they trying to get recognition from the white i guess lol
@slipher87 Okay. Sometimes all of this DNA information about King King Tut just gets to me and I remember the divide and conquer tactics of the colonists who set up the standard that Ethiopians were really dark complexioned Caucasians. I have wondered whether this is the way Ethiopians/Habesha/Abyssinians see themselves defined still. If not then perhaps the Pan-Afrikan Diaspora can create an ethnic firewall against white supremism after all.
@sitabanu Respond to this video... brother have faith we cannot keep this segregation no long most of the east also make up africa population all african people are one except for the white man on arabs that come in our country they need to go euroupe is no difference they all have different europeans from east europe to west europe but they have different appearance but they all the same they dont fight white supremacy
@slipher87 European Times blog claim the ancient Egyptians were White-Semitic-Arabs and that Anwar Sadat, whose mother was Sudanese (Sua-Dan-Nesi) and whose father was an 'Arab' was also a White-Semitic-Arab. It is true that Northern Sudanese regard themselves as White-Semitic-Arabs and like the Amharic, discount an an Afrikan heritage? Are Black-Afrikans who speaks Arabic choosing to be classed as White-Semitic-Arabs? It is too confusing to keep up with the politics of Islam!
@sitabanu as i said white caucasian divide the africans look how much white race they are nobody saying russian danish germans albania on all fucking 50 white supremacy fuck as much white fucking asshole in europe is no other color but white fuck you stupid fuck i talk to all east african people they are black african ethiopians even north africans like sudanese consider they self as black african white man expose my fucking people africa belongs to fucking african fuck caucasian on mix race
@slipher87 Yeah, I hear you. I mean dag, why is it that before the European Afrika was the "Dark Continent" and suddenly this means not a reference to the people but the unknown nature of the continent? It is all so much word games that the ethnic Afrikan of the Sudan is being told to leave his homeland because the White-Semitic-Arab wants his land! This is ancient Qemt all over again. Pushed further south beyond the Sudan as history books re-write history claiming the Arab was always there.
Spokenlife, looks like you not too proud about your african side,i just notice as soon as you said "part of my family was originally from africa" with a sad face, you claimed straight after your french canadian side with a really happy voice and face it shows that your self is not really happy about your africannes, just noticed ;)
Wow, I just cannot disagree with you more. I have absolutely no sadness for being who I am or any particular happiness about being who I am. I don't JUDGE myself by my color or my heritage. I'm Robin. I think maybe you saw something you were hoping to see. IMHO.
no he is right. I believe that the AA doesn't know enough about Africa, and more about the western world. They are saddened for being AA and having African heritage.
well well to be honest not all africans look alike I know most of the people in my country look more mixed then carribeans and brazilians combined as a whole and I'm from Eritrea if you ever heard first of all the first time I was in middle school I told afro americans I was african they laughed and heck no you hindu jasmin lookin ass you look indian and would call me apu wife on the simpsons even now there's hate? come on
You said the magic phrase, "in middle school." You all were kids. At that age, the only Africans we see are the images from the media. Most educated African-Americans know that Africa is a continent with a beautiful array of people. See---growing up we believe all Africans were extremely dark carrying a spear. Sadly, not only Afro-Americans believe this stereotype.
@CVNHOUSTON@CVNHOUSTON@CVNHOUSTON i agree the africans are way more beautiful than the so call africans in north on south america continent you see it all from kenya ivory coast ethiopia etriea sudan on many more
@Eritrean122 why you mad you more africans than them i promise i know so ethiopians eritrea somalians moracco sudan the reason why they might say that is cuz of skin color they think african black people cant have nice hair but whether u west african are east africans we are the same if we devide our race is doomed white man have people in their race dont look all white but they are white
@Eritrean122 well do i need to remind you euroupe is a continent with 50 countries almost no other race but pure white race from different all look little different but all white africa is a continent with 54 countries if you ask me they are more white in euroupe than africa even with al us africans from the east on the west combines with the north south on central white people over power us the thing is to reproduce with other race than african get a nice guy from ethiopia are nigeria are me
Respond to this video... this is what i hate the afro american is ignorant on stupid we in jamaica haiti are the real africans not mix grenada brazilian on american is more mix but we jamaicans knows african people i know east african on west africans e.t.c i know your country on i tell you this now u guys are the true black africans am just a descendant most africa wast taken from east africa like ethiopia in slavery baby africa belongs to africans the prophet marcus garvey speak of it
@Eritrean122 dont be so hard on them i dont want no more division if africans arent black then i will kill myself cuz am not black too this is stupid the so called afro americans even us in the the carribeans asking some of us calling west indian ertrean123 these so call afro american is ignorant on confuse they have too much white ppl blood my black african sister i was born in jamaica am a black african on i cant stand them they too ignorant but i love you from entrea from nigeria i love u
you've got to be kidding me. there was slavery in africa, especailly egypt for centuries. there was no way that africans who sold each other could know that european slavery would be chattle slavery and be as brutal as it was.
I was watching this video and it reminded me of something I just happened upon.(This is a true story). There was a white lady from South Africa. She moved to America. When she fills out forms, she is not allowed to call herself "African-American". Isn't that ironic?
This is not a "smart" remark. I'm just curious what people think about it.
That is a very interesting point. I also replied to Kayav's vid...told him I refer to myself as Black...got a lot of flack from a certain you tuber. My personal trainer is from Johanesburg...white as the driven snow...but does not call himself African American either...so what's the big deal about labels. others know that as a race we will focus on the unimportant things such as labels while the bigger issues continue to exist and grow.
@MyRealityBytes all i can say the black race is doomed they want to claim the east african as caucasian u fool they devide us on going to destroy you guys we already too much mix white man wins am from jamaica am 100 percent black i believe sellassiei of ethiopia is greatest black king ethiopia shall soon strectch forth thy hand on to the people of black america
As always, I appreciate your dialog. Such a positive way for us to continue to share our experiences. I visited Ghana this summer. There I was welcomed by plenty of African people who understood that I was American but that like you said our descendants came from Africa. I visited Elmina Castle which was a major slave port. I stood in the room of no return. I know that someone prayed to return and by the grace of God many years later I returned.
WOW! Your conversation made the point. I am a token white in a black neighborhood; I have lived in Africa. My sister was born there. I will not use the term AA unless it applies to one truly from Africa and I have met many. I see the exact feeling towards true Africans here as you mention and that is ironic.
I don't think 'we' do call 'ourselves' that. No one was calling themselves African-American in the 80s. Suddenly, someone marketed it and many blindly followed.... except me. I'll bet my family has been in the US longer than the average European-American. I probably have more in common w/ Europeans than Africans because, as an American, my culture is similar. This bothers the divisive 'Black Student Union'-types. Those clubs are relics.
Very true, there are very few "PURE" any type of person any more there has been so much travel through the continents that no one can say with certainty that they are pure..On BBC recently (past 12mnths) there has been a program "who do you think you are" and "are you British?" both exploring the genetics and history of our country, so many have found that there roots are far removed from where they beleived they had come from, even poloticians..
I do feel it was necessary that the term African Americans become a national standard. WE need to have words representing our ancestors continent because every other race does. Germans, French, Italians, Iraqis, etc.,
I do feel AFrican Americans have a completely different culture than Africans. Its not a good or bad thing but its true. I find it hypocritical that any race should be ashamed of another and YET have pride in theirs.
AFrica is a land full of wars and killing thy brothers. If a man is to have pride in his race, he must also be ashamed of what is race has done in order to NOT become a superior who separates himself from the human race.
I dont care if you call yourself African American or Black, or even a one eyed, one horned flying purple people eater..I am proud to call you my friend.
What you said at the very last few seconds of this video is exactly what we have to count on. The individuals themselves can make a difference one person at a time just being one with integrity and not being a part of any sort of separatist thinking. It is sad that even within groups, there are prejudices...sad! Like you said...no one is unscathed when it comes to stereotypes.
Robin, I love you! Your response to Edgar was something I would've said. I think I understand the point and it goes both ways. We have people of all colors who are prejudice within. I find that speaks volumes. It makes me sad when I come accross someone of my own race and nationality who shuns me. I've grown accustom to others doing that. But coming from someone who is like me, I just want to hug them and say, "What the hell is this all about?"
I don't understand what he meant...Edgar. You said you did understand. How is having friends and eating with people of a different race being "part of the problem"? Isn't that part of the solution? I don't understand the need to segregate or separate...how does that help anything?
Excellent response, I plan on doing a response as well..Hey, I didn't know about your canadian ancestors?? We gotta talk about that, my grandmother is from Canada.
you ain't know...she got a lifetime supply of canadian bacon in the deep freezer in the basement...lol. was that pc? but we all cool, so i hope she doesn't read this comment:) we cool though. haha. where's your bacaon babes? jk
I grew up in Detroit, I feel very lucky to have lived & loved peeps of all different ethnic backgrounds - this way we learn, we are more the same than different...
I admire you for staying true to yourself in college, & although not the easy road, you've grown into a even stronger & beautiful woman! (but you know this!) LOL
What makes me laugh is that you have those guys saying all this stuff that don't even know about "our brothers from Africa" and you have the actual Africans - ie- Kahyav etc...saying, "what's with these Americans" and Uncle Tom, for me, is one of worse, nastiest and manipulative things a black person can call another black person...I beleive it's worst than the nword.
not worse than the n-word...well depending on the person. have you ever heard of this one...being called sammy davis? i've been called that cause i have a lot of white friends. i didn't know what the guy meant but he was saying i was "dancing for the white folks"...just cause i had made some friends. but that's where his mind was at and now sometimes when i think of sammy davis jr. i remember what he said...it's amazing the analogies that people can create that stick with you forever...
Wow, I thought I had heard them all..."Sammie davis" - I say that's it's worse than the Nword because it's meaning and design comes from other black people...well actually, if you look up one my ealier videos called "Scenes from Black Stuff: Handshakes & Uncle Toms" some thing like that. It's a bit from this stage show that me and this other guy wrote & performed. It articulates it more clearly than I can here. (hopefully in a comic fashion)
i'll go check it out...yeah "sammie". it used to get under my skin cause the guy wasn't saying it to be funny...he only mention it when i'd be talking to one of my white couterparts. he'd sacrcastically mumble "keep dancin' sammie". then time passed and i saw a clip of the sammy davis jr. Roast on tv. then i knew what he was trying to say to me...but i still disagreed with him on that...it wasn't right. rip sammie...
@slipher87 I am sick of ppl like you trying to determine my race. I love my family. I love my mom, grandmother, father, grandfather and they are beautiful. nyashuu 8 months ago
Titoscudd 10 months ago
@Titoscudd
Titoscudd 10 months ago
@Titoscudd but you africans are way beautiful than us i was born in jamaica as a black man compare to africans african/americans includes america on the islands you guys look more pretty on more natural dont get me wrong some girls especially the black trinidadian on guyanese even jamaica grenada on other place will give you guys a run for there money lol
slipher87 8 months ago
@Titoscudd I met a man from Ghana. He told me that I had no right to call myself African-American since I had no existing family anywhere in Africa! That type of talk does not make me feel the history of the American-Africans-Blacks- 'Negroes' is understood. It almost seems as if the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade has not been taught in many African schools and therefore no knowledge of the American-Africans' past is considered relevant! Isn't this troubling in a Pan-African context?
sitabanu 8 months ago
@sitabanu
Titoscudd 7 months ago
@Titoscudd Exactly. We desperately need more Afrikan film makers to tell the various histories of enslavement. I just found out (unmixed) Afrikans of Madagascar were transported to Capetown, South Africa in 1766 Slave Ship Mutiny" - PBS. This would be an East Afrikan trade to West Afrika which obviously skews the numbers of so-called West Afrikans enslaved in the Trans-Atlantic trade! It never occurred to me that Afrikan-Americans should include Madagascar as possible ancestry!
sitabanu 7 months ago
@sitabanu
Titoscudd 7 months ago
@sitabanu
Titoscudd 7 months ago
@Titoscudd It took my breath away when he said this to me! I thought for a moment his intent was political in some way as if too many of the Diaspora were showing up with hands out expecting a return while perhaps not having skills to offer in advancing the nation as a whole. I guess my question is "If we have no right to claim Afrika" then how can can Pan-Afrikanism remain viable? Are we of the Diaspora being naive and romantic about Afrika? I am confused...and a little suspicious...
sitabanu 7 months ago
@sitabanu

Then were convinced that it was over.We don't have the luxury of believing that its over
cocoaton 1 year ago
First you must understand that No black american can ever be racist. We still have to be careful. Many black americans are having reactions to what they are enduring in real life. Whites are still very much abusing blacks on jobs, banks, business, physical, judistrial. Blacks are still having a hard time. The media paints a different picture. But blacks are still suffering in many cases. for example, a black man cant jog at dusk without possibly becoming a victim of police brutality or profiling
cocoaton 1 year ago
The only way you could not see the frustration in african americans would be that you are not really an african american. You speak more like a jamaican canadian from montreal. certainly at the time that you were in school, there must of been a movement concerning black americans that caused this young man to approach you with the comment " if you are not with us you are against us. There is so much you don't know. though you seem to be intelligent. But you lack wisdom about this matter.
cocoaton 1 year ago
@cocoaton what you mean jamaica is a black nation 80 percent of jamaican is african the last time i check jamaica on haiti is the closest resembles the africans we dont mix like african american on most of the islands but what am saying the only way a person would feel this there genes is not link to africa she think she look good to be even be african please tell this to the east africans lmfao way better looking than them even white people want our african sisters
slipher87 8 months ago
@cocoaton exactly i agree on that one any black ppl that is not with us is against us listen african american on the islands need to merge together so we can show how african sisters on brothers that we are really for them
slipher87 8 months ago
thats a small group of black americans that feel that way.

What do you think?
sitabanu 1 year ago
@sitabanu i dont think king selassiei means no harm what i think we african descendant i talk to alot of africans from the east like ethiopians etriea kenya the think is the way we act they like us its we african descendant make everything bad we all one africans whether u east africans are west africans are south are north on central africans we are all black africans when people say something bad against there own ppl they trying to get recognition from the white i guess lol
slipher87 8 months ago
@slipher87 Okay. Sometimes all of this DNA information about King King Tut just gets to me and I remember the divide and conquer tactics of the colonists who set up the standard that Ethiopians were really dark complexioned Caucasians. I have wondered whether this is the way Ethiopians/Habesha/Abyssinians see themselves defined still. If not then perhaps the Pan-Afrikan Diaspora can create an ethnic firewall against white supremism after all.
sitabanu 8 months ago

This is not a "smart" remark. I'm just curious what people think about it.

The Black Student Union doesn't sound too bright. I hate the race issue, no matter what color.

Xelanderthomas 4 years ago
not worse than the n-word...well depending on the person. have you ever heard of this one...being called sammy davis? i've been called that cause i have a lot of white friends. i didn't know what the guy meant but he was saying i was "dancing for the white folks"...just cause i had made some friends. but that's where his mind was at and now sometimes when i think of sammy davis jr. i remember what he said...it's amazing the analogies that people can create that stick with you forever...
dejuanp 4 years ago
