Well, I was sent a very humbling (but respectful) e-mail from wnyfalconwatcher who knows more about the family tree of Dina. I was absolutely correct in saying Dina is a Peregrine Falcon. Tiago and Wind are the parents of Dina. Somehow, Rhea Mae has replaced Wind as Tiago's mate. They are currently raising their first family as a pair this year.
I would love to know if Rhea Mae takes after her mother Mariah (back in Rochester NY) and attacks the hell out of the poor workers when they try to take the eyases for the day to band them. Mariah is one hell of a mother. There is not enough alcohol in the world to make me do the jobs of the workers who go up to get the eyases on banding day.
Thanks, Flightwatch. It wasn't meant to be a smackdown. I think he just needed clarification from someone who knows the facts. How do you know Dina's family history? Are you also in Rochester? (Did you see that Seneca stooped the other day? She was the last one to fledge this season, and those nutty falcon watchers (love them) apparently say she's the best flyer of the 2008 offspring.
Lastly, the description of this video also points out that it was filmed at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto. Not at a zoo, not at a conservatory. This is a wild bird. The Laughing Falcon that you speak of (Herpetotheres cachinnans) is found living in the wild as far north as Central America, but are predominantly a South American bird.
This is absolutely not a laughing falcon. As I demonstrated in my earlier two posts, Dina is a Peregrine as proven by this bird's family history.
What is more interesting is that Mariah and Kaver usually have five offspring every year. Do a youtube search for "Mariah Falcon Rochester." You'll see Dina's grandmother (Rhea Mae's mother) in many of those videos. Mariah is NOT banded, so we don't know where she came from. However, since arriving in Rochester, all of her offspring have been banded. That is how we know Rhea Mae went to Toronto when she was located when her band number was reported. Bottom line, Dina is a Peregrine Falcon.
BeeNut5, respectfully, you are wrong. Dina is the offspring of Rhea Mae, a Peregrine Falcon who arrived in Toronto from Rochester, New York (where I live). Rhea Mae's mother (Dina's grandmother) is none other than Mariah, arguably one of the most famous Peregrine mothers in the world. The reason for this is that her nesting box is on top of Kodak headquarters tower in downtown. Kodak has webcams all over her box so the world can watch these Peregrines from hatch to fledge.

BeeNut5: While you may be confused by the dark appearance near the eyes, this is, in fact a peregrine falcon.
