Frankenfoods are too scary and disable one's food thermostat & are killing our country's people. Avocados help round out a healthy diet also, we women need em
A million thanks for all the incredible blogs. I'll just keep passing them along. Real foods are so good. One wonderful difference is that they nourish your cells and you stop wanting junk. No more will-power necessary when your body gives you a "no" signal when faced with junk!! Haven't heard you mention sprouts. Such amazing little bits of whole nutrition. And so inexpensive, too. I love all green veggies, but sprouts are my favorite. Keep the info coming. You're awesome. Ginny
We are cavemen and cavewoman, we ate berries, meat, vegetables, roots and drank water. We are still cave people - wearing dresses and suits. Our eating should still be as close to earth as possible. Thank you Doc - keep educating the public.
Almost all fruit, vegetables, cereals, and farmed animals have been selectively bread and hybridised and are now genetically very different from their wild counterparts. Almost everything you can eat is now a genetically modified form of the original wild type.
Con't, Part 4: Also, we don't just vote in elections ... Every dollar we spend is a "VOTE." Support real food. Buy organic or biodiverse, buy local, or eat wild or grow your own, eat in-season. Shop the perimeter of the grocery store, shop farmer's markets. Eat plants, lots of greens, fruits, vegetables, nuts & seeds ... and your body will thank you ... and so will the planet. Thank you for this info, Dr. I admire your message and clarity and wish more MD's thought this way. Good Job!
Con't, Part 3: Or ... try a raw diet for an experiment. It's "radical" (in comparison with the standard American diet), but it's NORMAL & NATURAL (compared to how most species in nature eat). Raw vegan diets are easy on digestion; keep blood pressure and cholesterol low and have a positive effect on most health concerns.
con't, Part 2: Michael Pollan advises: Eat real food, instead of "edible food-like substances." Eat proper amounts. Eat plants, especially leaves. Don't eat anything that has a long shelf-life (If it won't rot, it's not "alive" enough to contribute to life and is useless as food). Stay away from corn and soy (and the multitude of overly processed products that contain these 2 dominant crops, e.g., high-fructose corn syrup) -- much of the corn and soy is GMO (genetically modified/frankenfood)
Great blog! For more info, watch "The Future of Food," "Supersize Me," and any video clip or book by Michael Pollan. Investigate the raw food movement and Natural Hygiene. Corporate food suppliers want to feed us "frankenfood" and we wonder why we have disease. The price of a $0.99 burger may be low, but the COST is high, as reflected in health, obesity, environmental toxins, and also karma. Lots of greed, pain and suffering goes into every bite of that "cheap" burger (ours & theirs).
