There is a university in the United Kingdom called the University of Dundee. It's in Scotland. I would very strongly urge Chinese students who're thinking of coming to the UK to undertake undergrad or postgraduate studies to NOT enrol at the University of Dundee. Many Chinese students at this university have been racially abused (either verbally, and in some cases physically.) Some lecturers at this university are very racist towards Chinese students and the city of Dundee is also VERY racist.
Burned in my memory. But I walked in the area today.
This POST OLYMPIC era feels strange. Places that were closed at the time you filmed that are opening up, but the memory of those places being closed, and when they were opened previously are still fresh in my mind.
Some people care....like the fact that the First Nations were recognized, and without them, many of us wouldn't be here. Ever think about that?? They WERE here first, and no one seems to comment on that!! Ignormae that you are!!
What do you expect? Its suppose to be short , to symbolize the start of the games, not some long drag fest that drags on for an hour, people dont care about long fireworks. During the ending ceromonies in Richmond Olympic Oval they has 10 minute fireworks, so watch the video, dont be sore that Canada got the Olympics and Norway didnt.
@Yommt83 well, the thing was the opening ceremony was in a closed area. i mean, atleast there was fireworks. and people would be watching the opening ceremony anyways and wouldnt be looking outside to look at the fireworks. i mean, the audience inside the BC place wont even see the fireworks.
@saprissa9: wow, it's funny how you find humour in bigotry yet want to see "more variety" (in minority representation?)
Hello, it;s the OLYMPICS. Multinational representation from all over the world. And Canada is Constitutionally deemed multicultural - we have codified rights for all citizens, recognizing their cultural traits and customs. what effin country do you even come from
I want to see the real opening cermony in Vancouver cause i was about to go to real vancouver and see all of the sports and i was going to stay at a hotel and come to every event but all the tickets were out we litraly packes and i held the olympic torch cause my friends dad held the olympic torch in Milton and he brang it to our class and he gave each of us a chance to hold it so it was amazing
@ishine2098 You post in a public forum and i should mind my own business? Ok then i guess it's none of my business that you can't spell and your grammar is severely lacking also.
That's fine dude, we can keep this going. Although i don't usually care to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person. But if you must persist at sending me replies, i will be happy to reply back.
THAT'S WHAT I'M TELLING YOU RETARD, STOP REPLYING AND I WILL LEAVE YOU ALONE. but chances are you will reply again because your stupid, and i will reply back to you again.
um... gues what... UR THE RETARD!!! if ur so annoyed of me replying then maybe u should use ur brain and YOU stop replying. im sure u will reply again cause ur the one who is stupid. if u were smart(which ur totally NOT) then u wouldn't reply and i really don't even care what u call me next cause ur sooooo WORTHLESS!!!
Beijing was the main olympics, this is the winter olympics, plus China is a communist country, which everyone knows makes the government rich and the populace poor. Not only that imagine what the punishment is for not performing perfectly in their opening ceremony.
@namm3rboi Yeah I have punk. I go by that corner every day on my walk home from work. Are you saying that poor people make this city ugly? Because I've known people from there, and they're totally as in to this city and what it stands for as any person from the west side, north shore, west end, or suburbs.
@namm3rboi why you telling the shit your saying to me as if i said anything to you, or even spoke to the subject in which your are speaking. I don't need to here you cry about how bad things are for you in canada.
@namm3rboi its funny how u think you know everything that goes around in Vancouver. I LIVE IN VANCOUVER! since your talking shit about where i live and MANY OTHERS, why don't you tell everyone where your from...........like anyone cares though.
@DracodaTRN Also, the media in Beijing was under strict rules that any glitches or mistakes were NOT to be made public. They went to a lot of trouble in keeping everything looking flawless.
You can only do that in a communist country like that. In a democratic situation like our countries where you have freedom of press, they look for goof ups to exploit, lol. we all love to see goof ups.
That roof should of been replaced last year so Gretzky could of had the honor of lighting a true olympic torch standing tall from BC place, and not having to be carted across town for a dingy little torch lighting on a dock.
Like albertanjake said, normally, the geodesic dome is Science World - a fun place for kids. During the Olympics, it's turned into the Russian Pavilian, aka Russky House.
@OlderG0ds If your interested it was built for EXPO 86 unfurtanatly thats about all I know but when I was there last it was a really cool place and definatly a landmark of Vancouver
IOC rules state that the Olympic Cauldron must never be extingushised for the whole course of the games, and the flames must be in full public view. BC Place will catch fire if an Olympic cauldron was made to touch the roof anf leave it there unattended.

The cheepest bid got the pyro and it shows. It was a company from Canada, go figure.
And if it hadn't been raining they would have caught the roof on fire. They still burned holes all in the roof. Look at all the little fires burning at the end. Crao cheep product. You get what you pay for!!
I don't know who did the pyro, but I would agree based on the clip posted that it (the pyro) could have been a lot better..but that has nothing to do with being Canadian. It has everything to do with the specific supplier they chose, the product they used and their experience as well as knowledge of close proximity pyrotechnic effects.
I'd just like you to know that Archangel Fireworks of Winnipeg, Manitoba has won the Celebration of Light international fireworks competition in Vancouver in 2007 and 2008. So before you start passing judgement on Canadian pyrotechnic firms, perhaps you should do your homework first, because a Canadian firm blew firms from other "pyrotechnical powerhouses" out of the water, literally!
imagine how it would look if the new roof was on it then

That roof wouldnt catch on fire that easily...its a 27 year old Teflon fabric.
Its been thru many, many fireworks shows on the inside.
And even if it did burn a hole or two...its going to be taken off within the next 6 months to start construction on the new retractable fabric roof.
