They have the chemicals confused. E-cigs use propylene glycol. Propylene glycol is used as a food additive and is used as a non-toxic antifreeze for winterizing drinking water systems. Ethylene glycol is commonly used in automotive antifreeze and is very toxic.

Drugs used for chemotherapy are poison, and while they certainly help a lot for cancer patients, healthy people don't go around intentionally injecting themselves of non-lethal doses of those drugs.

Also, consider that those nicotine products warn against being used by non-smokers. The same can't be said of products that contain caffeine, including soft drinks and chocolate. The UK Tea Council says that for any child older than a toddler, tea in moderation is not a bad thing. Find anyone that says any child older than a toddler chewing nicorette isn't a bad thing.

Yes, glycol is used for automotive antifreeze. But, there are different types of glycol. Lets just focus on two... The old-style antifreeze (the type that would kill your pet if it drank a puddle of it on the ground) used ethylene glycol. The new antifreeze (the type sold as animal safe) uses propylene glycol, which is non-toxic, and is used in foods and medicines. Propylene glycol is the "anti-freeze" that is in e-cigs, not the toxic ethylene glycol.

FDA should be more worried about harmful substances some manufacturers put into e-liquid. I for one want to know what the hell in e-liq can melt plastic in some clearomizer cartridges. People not using clearomizers are probably vaping the same shit except the are unaware b/c they use metal cartridges.
I've heard that menthol might be the issue there. A local producer of e-juice said on a forum that the menthol chrystals can only be stored in glass jars as it dissolves plastic

Let me tell you a little something about the Chinese and chemisty. Propylene Gly can be intifreeze and is safe to eat as it's in many foods, sex lubes, etc. However, the Chinese have a tendency to want to go on the cheap even if it involves killing their own people. The cheaper Ethylene glycol which is what the bulk of antifreeze on the market is the stuff that kills animals and would be the cheap alternative over Propylene. The only way to know which has been put in is to lab test it.
If they advertise and label their eliquids and specify the ingredients used they are under legal obligation to carry through there 'word' to their clients, painting a tainted picture of Chinese and the extent you think they will go to cut corners has it's proof but if we all too paranoid then not half as many people will find hope in quitting tobacco, we will go for the legit companies like those 'not' in China. I only know that I can now breath through my nose again, taste my food, and that my lungs and throat no longer constantly ache. The circulation has returned to normal in my extremities (I have a nerve disorder which smoking didn't help), and my heart rate is now normal. All this because I bought a Joye eGo starter kit, and instantly quit smoking cigarettes due to the replacement.

While this may seem like a bad thing to many, those of us that know how to make our own e-cigs and e-juice will continue to do so at a very low cost to ourselves. All items necessary to make an e-cig will cost you around $10. The e-juice cost for my tastes runs me $20 for 90ml. Do some homework and learn how to cut your own ejuice and save yourself loads of cash.

Propylene Glycol Is a harmless chemical whether its in antifreeze or not, Its the same ingredient used to make smoke come out of the smoke machines in nightclubs, and its used in many other various foods, and other things. The FDA didnt have anything to say about this chemical for the dozens of years that it has been used in night clubs to make fake smoke.

The FDA is talking outta their ass. The "antifreeze" ingredient is propylene glycol, which is used in soaps, foods and cosmetics and is quite safe (according to the FDA!) They have the chemicals confused. E-cigs use propylene glycol. Propylene glycol is used as a food additive and is used as a non-toxic antifreeze for winterizing drinking water systems. Ethylene glycol is commonly used in automotive antifreeze and is very toxic.

And just because there might be medical uses for it doesn't mean it should be consumed by healthy people.
Drugs used for chemotherapy are poison, and while they certainly help a lot for cancer patients, healthy people don't go around intentionally injecting themselves of non-lethal doses of those drugs.

Also, consider that those nicotine products warn against being used by non-smokers. The same can't be said of products that contain caffeine, including soft drinks and chocolate. The UK Tea Council says that for any child older than a toddler, tea in moderation is not a bad thing. Find anyone that says any child older than a toddler chewing nicorette isn't a bad thing.

Nicotinic receptors are so named because nicotine can and does bind to them if nicotine is taken in... but those receptors are meant to receive acetylcholine. Again... nicotine does NOT naturally occur in your body. Nature creates it to kill insects, and those who ingest it do so to stave off the withdrawal symptoms caused by the initial ingestion of nicotine.

Yes, glycol is used for automotive antifreeze. But, there are different types of glycol. Lets just focus on two... The old-style antifreeze (the type that would kill your pet if it drank a puddle of it on the ground) used ethylene glycol. The new antifreeze (the type sold as animal safe) uses propylene glycol, which is non-toxic, and is used in foods and medicines. Propylene glycol is the "anti-freeze" that is in e-cigs, not the toxic ethylene glycol.

At the level found in tomatoes, no big deal. At the concentration used in cigarettes it can cause deformed babies among other things. At a higher concentration it can kill you. The cheaper Ethylene glycol which is what the bulk of antifreeze on the market is the stuff that kills animals and would be the cheap alternative over Propylene. The only way to know which has been put in is to lab test it.

If they advertise and label their eliquids and specify the ingredients used they are under legal obligation to carry through there 'word' to their clients, painting a tainted picture of Chinese and the extent you think they will go to cut corners has it's proof but if we all too paranoid then not half as many people will find hope in quitting tobacco, we will go for the legit companies like those 'not' in China. Btw has there been any liquid found to have Ethylene glycol, don't think so.

Google Taixing Glycerin Factory. Lab tests must have a good chain of command and done outside of China. I'd be just as concerned as the other parts of the e-cig (ie lead wire burner or lead braided burner, improper filter materials which might contain whatever is cheapest). Chinese don't even trust their own food supply anymore. Sewege oil recycled to hotpots, Diphalates in Minute Maid drinks in tawain instead of coconut oil, Methanol in alcohol, my wife limits my food choices in China.

I only know that I can now breath through my nose again, taste my food, and that my lungs and throat no longer constantly ache. The circulation has returned to normal in my extremities (I have a nerve disorder which smoking didn't help), and my heart rate is now normal. All this because I bought a Joye eGo starter kit, and instantly quit smoking cigarettes due to the replacement.
As a journalism major, I can tell you that this was some horrible reporting. Next time, look into their report, AP.

Just to be safe, though, I'm switching to American made liquids only. I'll eventually buy some American mods, but I'm just happy not to be smoking filthy American cigarettes anymore!

While this may seem like a bad thing to many, those of us that know how to make our own e-cigs and e-juice will continue to do so at a very low cost to ourselves. All items necessary to make an e-cig will cost you around $10. The e-juice cost for my tastes runs me $20 for 90ml. Do some homework and learn how to cut your own ejuice and save yourself loads of cash.

first of all, all those e-cigs are from China, not the U.S., second, the chemical that is in antifreeze (as stated by the FDA) is also found in soap, makeup, and its an additive in food coloring that is completely harmless, nicotine itself is the same as caffeine, it does not harm your body (unless in outrageous amounts ), and this vapor does not harm your lungs, and nothing in these e-cigs cause cancer, unlike regular cigs that have over 400 carcinogens, to sum it up, fuck the FDA

Propylene Glycol Is a harmless chemical whether its in antifreeze or not, Its the same ingredient used to make smoke come out of the smoke machines in nightclubs, and its used in many other various foods, and other things. The FDA didnt have anything to say about this chemical for the dozens of years that it has been used in night clubs to make fake smoke.
But now that it is in the way of the governments tobacco money its a really big health hazard isn't it?

well water is also one of the antifreeze ingredient , and propylene glycol is approved by FDA so VG , the problem are the juice adds and unapproved flavors from China , and well the 8 toxin in e-liquid are also in nicotine patches , and nobody talk about that ... it will not kill you , you don't get cancer so what the deal ... 8 compared to 4000 give me a break ... The FDA is talking outta their ass. The "antifreeze" ingredient is propylene glycol, which is used in soaps, foods and cosmetics and is quite safe (according to the FDA!) The other ingredients are pharmaceutical grade nicotine and food flavourings. Kinda beats the 4.000+ chemicals in tobaccoo smoke, doesn't it?
