  • Can't see any seat belts anywhere, how scary is that, they became compulsory in 1972 according to the official F1 website.

  • Who is the third??

  • Chris Amon

  • It looks quite dangerous

  • This has to be the toughest race ever.. Endurance wise in those cars, and putting the reliability to the extreme test

  • 5:55 BIG SPEEDY SLIDE

damn good years for cars and driving

  • No fuckin way!! my boss used to keep denny hulmes old mini at work. I never heard of him before, and they told me he was an old F1 champion, i thought they were messing with me. New Zealand 1st and 3rd in this race, just unreal....

  • Crew members lifting a car with nothing but their bare hands... that's not something you would see today

  • pas de vitesse au volant, pas de kers, pas d'aileron ajustable juste le talent ,de vrai gentlemen drivers

  • this looks a lot like some of the footage from Grand Prix...kool

  • Only one group of men with balls of steel like these guys: The Isle of Mann TT motorbike racers.

  • Ritt auf der Kanonenkugel im Vergleich zu Heute.... *RESPEKT*

  • The real Team Lotus will return to F-1 in 2011 in partnership with Renault.

  • Jim Clark, best driver of all times.

  • You had to drive with some restraint back then, there wasn't much standing between you and a firey ending trapped in a car and no help within miles. Lord have mercy it's a wonder any survived to tell about it. People debate if drivers from those days could hack it now, I wonder how many of todays drivers would even set foot in a car they drove to 180 mph and more. Racers are racers, Romans raced chariots, Fangio would be just as kick ass today as he was in his day.

  • Never to be repeated but Nice to know humans are this mad. Balls of steel indeed.

  • No seat belts, nice...

  • Formula 1 cars leaving the tarmac my god these guys were brave I could watch 60s F1 or sports cars forever.

  • awesome, those guys had balls of steel

  • bloody hell that's so dangerous

  • 4:45 - i cant believe they did´nt wear sealtbelts omg

sound is beaty as hell and cool airborne moments there (flugplatz).

    great vid

  • @denjel666 I believe Jackie Stewart was the first to use a racing harness in 1968. They weren't required until 1972. Hard to believe.

  • This is absolutely beautiful.

  • this had just made me realise how bad the Bahrain GP was last weekend

  • Purity Of Essence.

  • Awesome vid!

  • The 1957 race was far more interesting.

And the cars were front engined and more difficult.

  • pretty good quality

  • Wow imagine seeing Bruce McLaren actually race. I love F1 but I totally forget that it's not just a team name sometimes.

  • Passion, speed and brave men! Dear old times! Thanks for sharing!!!

  • These guys were the most fearless drivers of all time...

  • @LuxeXx Agree by far.. these guys were risking it big time.. anything could happen.. from flipping over, to crashing and dying, to burning up in flames.. these guys really had balls.... THAT WAS RACING. for real

  • @Auraeuz, i agree. the driver from over 40 years ago had the balls to even drive one of those beautiful deathtraps. today race driver can learn from them.

  • @LuxeXx after seeing this it reminds me of the race that rene arnoux and gilles villeneuve had... search for it.. that's balls too :)

  • I could watch footage from this era all day long. Thanks for posting!

  • 4:40 is what you get in a car with no downforce going at 150+ mph, you won't see today's F1 cars doing that with the G-force the wings puts down.

The bravery from many of these drivers were outstanding, especially Jim Clark.

  • @sookster54

but you wouldn´t see that in a 67 F1 car on todays tracks either, as none has chunks like the Nürburgring at Flugplatz or also at Pflanzgarten.

  • music is wickid

  • Great footage. My wife and I were at this race and I got to photograph many of the great drivers in the pits. But, sitting in the start/finish grand stands we didn't see any of the cars on the track during the race. Drove a few laps the next day and went back with our sons a few years ago to relive the experience. Every car enthusiast should drive the Ring at least once in their life!

  • A wonderful documentary !

    Thank you very much !

  • HOLYCRAP at 4:40

  • holycrarp indeed, thats just INSANE!!

  • fans and modern day race car drivers can learn alot from Dan Gurney. It didn't matter if it was F1 or NASCAR, he had a desire to race regardless of the reputation of the sport.

  • I'd love to see footage from the Belgian GP of the same year. Does anyone have it?

  • Love the way the equivalent of the lollipop man is wearing a double-breasted blazer!! LOL!

  • Thanks for putting this up - terrifying jumps though - this is my favourite era of GP racing - well of cars in general I suppose.

  • Im more of fan of 80's, but the technology ,drivers and safety of 60's these cars are faster and more powerful than modern high-end production cars, supercars excluded, this is just amazing how these cars slide, jump, move. I bet modern time Formula 1 driver wouldn't even dare to atempt drive one fast..... O'tempora O'mores

  • never saw this footage, but comparing this to the circuit now, I would not have dared to get into an aluminium tube and go down twisty roads at ...kph?looks verry scary! Respect, real men driving real machines :)

  • spectacular jumps!!!!

  • So awesome. GPL was gret.

  • Thank you so much great stuff!

  • superb vid, back in the days when an f1 driver was also great at saloon racing, rallying, time trials,no fancy gear or equipment, just down to great driving,Jim Clark was my hero, born 20 or so miles up the rd from me,superb!

  • real pilots driving real cars!

  • god I love these old classic f1 footage. I really enjoy it when they show the drivers gearing up before the race, that is classic footage.

  • Great post. Precious history this one.

Brabham cars one and two. The last time a driver built his own car and won a world F1 championship. It will never be done again.

  • balls of steel! excellent post, well done!

  • Gotta respect those guys there!
