Interestingly, the synth playing the lead reminded me of Wave Race 64, which is pretty funny.

I heard "Dolphin Park" from Wave Race 64. I see what you mean. The instrument used in there sounds like an EWI. I think the composer was listening a bit of T-Square while he was composing that song.
