Amazingly, this song was written by an English singer-songwriter, Michael Weston King, formerly leader of cult alt-country band The Good Sons. It was inspired by a 'Country & Western' venue nr Southport, Lancs, where western afficiaonado's would gather each week, dressed in full cowboy gear..including guns. TVZ has changed the lyrics slightly for his version, to be more appropriate for a US audience.
I hope no sincerity is lost or that my ramblings are interpreted as being sappy when I say that this song I can truly feel on my nerve endings...the pain, the loneliness, the wildness, the freedom. I'm really grateful for whoever posted this. thank you. And thanks most of all to Townes. It's hard to explain in a short youtube comment the way it touches the things we can't speak about to each other, but in art they are communicated.*Like I said, too sentimental of a post.
I have the same comment as for "Dirty Old Town" video that you posted. September 1996 session--Townes had less than four months to go, and it showed--the whiskey had worked its evil. Still, I love the man's art and humanity. I tip my glass to him now, and hope that in the afterlife (Dammit, there OUGHT to be one!) I will hear him ringing clear again, and in person.
