Seeing Bono and Freddie on the same stage is f'ing amazing. Too bad Freddie didn't solo. I'm sure he was happy to pass the mic...he was always a class act.
@msgyand ..I think those not born at the time of this concert should get a pass. I'm kind of jealous of those who are watching this for the first time. Makes me remember how I felt watching it all on that day.
@swerdna1970 Self-aggrandising??? He raised about $283.6 million from the Live Aid concert. Not to mention untold amounts still from the sale of this song. What have YOU done for the poor?
Come on Bob, u irish legend.. It's been called christmas for hundreds of years not "the holidays". Get it right, go back to work for the 25th of Dec if you think its just a random holiday. Its actually the birth of christ..!!
Bob Geldof (frontman of Irish punk band Boomtown Rats) and Midge Ure (frontman of Ultravox) organized this mega event back then. On that same day (13 July 1985), there were two stages: one in London and one in Philadelphia, on which many significant bands and artists at the time performed parallel. There was live broadcasting from both stages on a worldwide scale. The single raised up to 9 million British Pounds and the events 74 million, all destined to enable survival in Ethiopia etc.
XMAS IS ALL ABOUT LOVE, PEACE AND RESPECT. IF YOU'RE MISSING ONE OF THESE WORDS,WE ARE NOTHING... MY HEART GOES TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN NEED. YOU ARE ALWAYS IN MY PRAYERS ,,,EVERYDAY...PEACE MY BELOVED EARTH.
@johnluke1169 Not sure what the USA has to do with this. Live Aid was put together by an Irishman, and most of the people on that stage are from the British Isles. There were American participants, but Live Aid was the brainchild of Bob Geldof.
Americans had damn all to do with this barr a few participants. + Half the world think your corrupt country with the devils running it are the anti-christ. You feel a right to oil all over the world and force a dictated peace on people. In short: America is an opressing state on all others barr Russia and China.
BLOODY GOOSEBUMPS! I REMEMBER VERY LITTLE OF THE 80'S BUT LIVE AID
IS BURNED IN MY MEMORY!!!! THE BEST!! B.T.W. QUEEN BLEW IT AWAY-LONG LIVE THE BEST FRONT MAN EVER: FREDDIE!!!!!!! BEST VOCALS ON BAND AID RECORDING: BOY GEORGE AND PAUL YOUNG!!!!
Amazing..Freddie Mercury, Paul McCarthey, Sting, Bono, David Bowie on the same stage...shame Sting mic didn´t work and Freddie didn´t sing but still Great...and the cause of course.
Nah, not Rick Astley ... he wasn't really well-known until a couple of years after this and was not part of Band Aid. He was a participant in Band Aid II however. I think you're seeing the late Stuart Adamson of Big Country at 2:17.
How lucky you are!!!!!! I live in Mexico City and I was eleven years old but I did follow the whole concert and 23 years later this moment makes me feel the same emotion and brings me to tears like then.
Your most welcome on my comment, it's the truth! I see your from The Netherlands, my father was from Bussum, Holland! I still haven't had a chance to visit such a beautiful country! Maybe someday cheers from Canada!
I wish I could of been there! I play this when I need to be reminded that hunger & war will never go away until we gather & give of ourselves unselfishly as these artists did! We have a long way to go!
