While I would not argue that Socialism isn't an economic system with merit, I will say that expecting to shift from a culture so severely capitalist as ours to socialism would be unrealistic and impractical. "The Conquest of Bread" by Kropotkin is another great one. Also: Chomsky's Hope & Prospects is a great read on current affairs and ideas for how to move forward.
