from what i can tell it does not appear to have valves just into and exit holes similar to haw an RC car motor works so i was wounding if it was like that or if it had actual vales.

yes there are valves..you see all those small moving parts at the top of the engine block? when they spin they flick the switch lever back and forth. when the lever is on one side, it opens up the corresponding valve..when the lever is on the other side, it opens the other valve. one valve may be connected to one of the two inlets on the pneumatic piston. since the switch moves back and forth it causes the piston to stroke up and down..moving the crank....which turns the axle.
