i saw this in my class because we were learning about the Harlem renaissance and this song came up.. i found it really amazing and catchy and i just had to look for it :D
@virgilio202 I am surprised that this recording is from the early 40's because the sound and picture are of great quality,you can really appreciate the good sound and the long legs of the pretty actress on this movie,jeje. Thank you for the information,I will keep my eye out for this film,"Reveille with Beverly".
Pense que iba a ser una de esas versiones graciosas y poco serias, algo asi como lo que hicieron los beattles con besame mucho... pero es muuuuuuuuuy buena, me agrado bastante.
This is the song that really got me interested in the Jazz song and most importantly, it made me realize how African Americans changed America during the Harlem renaissance.
This video, as with a few other "soundies" of that era, included Gene Smith (second from the right, just next to Pop), who stood in for Harry Mills, who was serving in the US Army.
Thank you, SyberkaPL for sharing this beautiful song and these great singers. tonypanzarella, thank you for that piece of Mills Brothers' history. When I started this YT video, I didn't recognize the man standing second from the right. Then I read your comment and the mystery was solved.
GREAT

@josemezatorrez
Not 50s, 40s. Look for a 1943 film titled "Reveille With Beverly", I'm pretty sure Harry is singing lead in that version.

TCM (Turner Classic Movies), as far as I know, is the only place "Reveille With Beverly" can be viewed.

There`s a version of this song with the Mills Bros accompanied by a pianist who sounds as if he has three hands; he`s dynamite.

is that guy at 0:41 bill Cosby dad?
scarecrowninja 2 years ago
That man is the Mills Brothers' father, John Mills Sr.; he joined them after their oldest brother died on 1936.
