  • is he travelling with the autobots?

  • He sure wants us to all drive hybrid cars and get rid of our SUV's, but yet you don't see him driving around in a Prius. crazy how that works.

  • 3 ambulances! Wow that's a lot of protection for just him...

  • Then again.. what do I know of how much protection a president needs. =)

  • Wow even a frigging ambulance haha.

  • that was a swat ambulance

  • Obama rocks the house!

  • he sure likes security huh...

  • Not just him. They all do.

  • @FantasticBabblings I assume that heads of state have only a moderate amount of discretion regarding their safety details.

  • @tbsla13 I think you're probably right. Basically the President does what the Secret Service tells him to do in matters like this.

  • @FantasticBabblings I've always wondered what would happen if the President punched one of his SS men ... can they hit back? :)

  • @tbsla13 I doubt that the SS would hit back, but it might start impeachment rumblings in the House.

  • @tbsla13 Actually, I heard where Hillary did in fact do this. A SS guy walked into a room in the White House and found Hillary and another woman having kinky Lesbian (Bulldaggar) Sex. She was so pissed that she hit him over the head with an object. The SS guy pressed charges but the incident was quickly shoved under the covers. Bad (Anal)ogy but it's true !!!

  • @earlsworld70117 True according to whom or what?

  • It is amazing how quick we are to question the purpose of all the vehicles in the president's motorcade. I have a lot more faith in the secret service who have been protecting presidents for a couple hundred years than a few on youtube who actually believe they have any idea of what it takes to protect a president.

  • Security has gone up a couple of notches since 1963...

  • And for good reason haha

  • Wow, impressive parade! At least we know he is being well looked after. I guess in NYC security has to be even tighter than usual. Or is this usual? I don't know! Thanks for this Phil.

  • This is normal for a presidential motorcade. I have seen them since Carter, and this is the usual level of protection.

  • Wow.

Is this Obama guy important then? ;)

  • Depends on who you ask. How important can a Muslim socialist be?

  • Holly shit lol

  • Haha! That sums it up.

  • My God he has more cop cars in his motorcade, then I do policing my whole hometown of Charleston. Lol.....

  • Is that Charleston SC?

  • Even worse Phil. Charleston, WV. The whole state has circa 1.8 million people, and Charleston, which is the capital city, only has circa 50,000 people. It's home though, and really beautiful this time of year.

  • Gotta love Curt's comment! There is nothing left to say except wow - you've had quite a week!

  • I know I better stop before the Secret Service pays me a visit. I swear I am not stalking.

  • That much is obvious - there's no gun strapped to your leg and no signs produced by faux news - oh, I mean the 'grass roots' movements that look like astroturf.

  • He doesn't carry a very big carbon footprint does he?

  • Not at all really. That motorcade probably gets 25 feet per gallon... on the open road. City - maybe 5 feet per.

  • It is impressive, but I think it is too much. Especially when you consider the cost and the amount of energy used.

    Still, impressive.

  • first, I have to say, the word, " Obamacade" is one of my new favorite words, and I fully intend to work it into my daily parlance. secondly, I have a hunch that he is not in the car we think he is in. I bet he's in one of the vans or something. Anyway, he's a cool President. I don't like him all the way, but I like him most of the way.

  • You could actually see him in the car. The camera doesn't catch it. However, there are two identical presidential limos and you never know which one he is in. Also they are armored, bullet proofed, reinforced, etc.

  • There was a cool overview of the new car during the inauguration. Seems like a pretty smooth ride. I guess it makes sense to have a few cars running all around. I need to get myself an obamacade.

  • Wow.

  • Could you be more specific?

  • Well... as I watched, I imagined a 911 phone call going a little like this:

Caller: My father had a heart attack! We need an ambulance!

Operator: They're busy following a limo, have you thought about calling a cab?

Caller: Never mind, Dad doesn't have insurance anyway. He's an irresponsible American.

Operator: Just as well then (hangs up).

  • Wow.

  • The ad that came up for your video was "Where was Obama born?" ...

  • Though it is a pittance, I love the idea of making money from the birthers :)

  • Did someone call him the O Man?

I have to admit I am excited and I know this is not live.

  • I believe someone did. Considering what the tea baggers call him, it was much nicer :)

  • We live near DC and have to contend with a constant birrage of motorcades...sheesh! Blessings, Ang

  • I'm sure Washington is many multiples of New York. The traffic here is a mess, near gridlock. Four days of this.

  • I read your description before watching the video and thought "Well, what do you expect? The man needs a security detail." Then I watched the video and the motorcade turned out to be about 20 times longer than I expected. Why not throw in about 400 Secret Service guys on Segways? Sheesh.

  • Sounds fabulous. Where's Busbee Berkley when you need him?

  • You stated in the last vid , comment section to me, that you wouldnt think to put Clinton in the same league and Falwell,,I actually think Clinton is worse due to the fact he preteneded to help us and deceived us, where at least Falwell let you know he was going after us. I would rather know my enimies then vote for them and then have them turn on me..

  • You have a valid point. There are some things about him that are indefensible.

  • Back in the 80s I used to get regularly screwed by motorcade traffic every time Reagan came to LA (which seemed to be at least once a month in the later years). So, for those wondering, the seeming excess of cars and motorcycles, etc., is nothing new or dictated by either the president or which party is in office. They're all annoying when you're trying to get across town. But cool video anyway ;^)

  • I saw Bush-43 motorcade in South Carolina once. It was lower key and not as big. I guess they think the big cities are more of a threat, and also NY and LA have to preen a bit.

  • Very interesting. The video and the comments.

  • I like my subscribers. No shortage of opinions and usually well articulated.

  • I completely agree.

  • I think he ass should get out and walk the lousey 4 blocks! He isnt anyone anymore special than you or I in my opinion! He should find out first hand what it is like for a family like ours with a child that has cancer and there is no help and 2.9 million in debt and not able to pay the rent. Ohhh sorry, struck a nerve. HUGS xoxox

  • You're welcome to vent here, Peggy. I know what you mean. They get so removed from real life in the office. Regardless of party. All of them forget what real people have to go through, no matter how hard they try.

  • Crap. I'm never running for President.

  • Me neither!

  • I counted 18 bikes and 31 other vehicles.

    A godzillian carbon feet print

I guess the subway was too crowded.

  • Hell, put him in a cab. It would have been about six dollars vs about 600,000.

  • Ah... Wasn't that just a tad too much, eh?

    Mooz

  • Actually, when I saw it I thought, "Mooz must bee in town!"

  • ...........a bit much, I'd say.

  • Just a bit :)

  • You really have to love politics to put up with this kind of »public imprisonment« I know I wouldn't want to.

  • Right after Eisnenhower's inauguration Harry and Bess Truman were driven to Union Station. At one point, the agent stopped. Harry asked him why, and he said "red light." Truman said that's when it hit him he wasn't president any more. He hadn't stopped at a red light in 7 years.

  • This is a great story. Do you know how it hit him, Phil? Was Harry Truman relieved, or was it in some sense a loss for him?

  • It hit him because the red light was the first time he encountered the loss of a privilege. Overall, though, I think Truman was happy to leave Washington. He thought they were mostly thieves and scoundrels. I know Bess hated the place.

  • holy shit all of that was unnecessary

  • It is spectacle more than necessity, I think.

  • WTF? That is an amazing amount of work to move one man from a meeting to a hotel. Granted, he IS the President, but my word, how much time and money is put into that?

  • That is just the most obvious part. Last night there must have been hundreds of thousands spent on police overtime just for cops to stand along the route. Plus helicopters, sharpshooters. The man is in a bulletproof armored limo. I can see a cop car or two and a couple of Secret Service vehicles and that should be enough.

  • The last police car reminded me of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

  • That is exactly what I thought when I was shooting it (oops! sorry Secret Service)... recording it. The little space ship lagging behind. It's very Disney.

  • Who was that guy with the cigar? Wasn't that the point of the video?

    What???

  • As Freud allegedly said, "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

  • Ah... power for the person.

  • The person, or the office. All US presidents get the same. Yet over 100 other world leaders are in town and get one police car, one SUV and they seem to be safe.

  • What a fucking production! What a waste of money!!

  • I don't think it is all necessary. I t hink a lot of it is for show. But it has been the same for a long time. I have seen motorcades since Carter, and they are all excessive. Especially, of course, in NY.

  • good video..5 stars

  • Thanks for watching.

  • you welcom,, i enjoy your videos.....michelle

  • lol you get to see everything

  • There are times when NY seems like the center of the universe.

  • Yeesh. I realize he's the leader of the free world and all, but really? Like, 90 fucking motorcycles?

  • Yeah, really. However many motorcycles as are needed to block intersections to the closest hospital in case an armed teabagger gets through. We could do prez-motocade on the cheap if you want - see Dallas nov. '63 for results.

  • When a president comes to New York, whole avenues and sections of town are shut down and there are cops on every corner. There's no need for motorcycles to block intersections. That's not how they're used. There's no valid comparison with Kennedy's motorcade. Kennedy was making a public appearance, in a convertible. Obama was simply being transported from one place to another. The excess was absolutely ludicrous.

  • You're so right. There are about a dozen cops and several cars and motorcycles stationed at each intersection hours in advance (hundreds of thousands overtime) and all traffic is stopped a good ten minutes before the motorcade starts. Plus several police choppers in the air over the route.

  • The problem with Dallas wasn't the size of the motorcade, it was that he was riding in a convertible. They got Kennedy to the hospital soon enough, but it didn't matter. His brain was half gone.

  • permission to revise and extend? In the sober light of day, the Dallas comparison seems... less relevant. ;) By 'on the cheap' I just meant the slip-shod manner of it, (things others see as evidence of a cabal) ie:SS guys hungover, or not showing, no coordination w/local police and mostly the foolhardy decision to drive a northern liberal prez through Dallas in '63 - in a convertible, that led to half the presidential brain being gone. (yeah,I really gotta get a B.A.C. keyboard-cutoff device)

  • I agree it should be professional and thorough, but a lot of this is for show, I think.

  • It is overkill, no pun intended. I hope the Secret Service doesn't see this :)

  • seems like a lot of gas being used in those cars in the motorcade. :P

  • Huge amount of waste. Plus all of the stopped traffic idling and all the police cars you don't even see in this video.

  • You must carry your cam everywhere.

  • I do. I have a small camera I keep in my bag. It's New York. You never know what's going to happen.

  • Wow, that's a shitload of cars. Never knew it was THAT many

  • It boggles the mind.
