  • Thank you very much very informative more power to you

  • I almost cut my fingernail in a half by accident! But it was my unattention, I managed to make everything work, thanks!

  • I looked up this video just out of curiosity. It turns out that you (Bundy1) also use the same method for installing/removing them as I do. I KNEW it had to be the right way. Too bad the strap locks don't come with accurate instructions.

  • @doordieace5high Great minds think alike! This HAS to be the easiest way to do it; I mean, if I can disassemble/assemble in 60 seconds or so-- we have to be doing something right!

Love your screen name. Up the Irons! ;)

  • Thanks for the vid dude!!!

  • I GOT IT!!!!! Finally!!!!! * looks at straplok * wait a second, wheres my stratp? O.o

  • Ah! The only helpful strap lock video on YouTube! The other ones made me feel like an idiot. Thanks for the video! It was really helpful!!!

  • Thank you sir- after weeks of frustration... VICTORY over the DAM strap locks- I say Thank You Again!!! & I agree with jao5e- who could dislike this? What is there to dislike? Save it for taxes

  • PEARL JAM love to hear it

  • How can you dislike a how to video that is so helpfull

  • It works!

  • Thanks dude!

  • what do i do if my strap lock got stuck on my guitar?? mine is dunlop straplocks as well. and they were installed correctly i think..they have been locked on my guitar for a while and now it wont come up. the bottom one comes out just fine. but i just cant get the other one. i pressed the little button thingy i think it doesnt go all the way down.. but watsoevr. what can i do now??

  • ONCE...upon a time...I could change my locks myself!

  • Thanks for that video! iv been struggling with it as id never done it before, its so simple when you know how :-) Very sorry to read about the passing of your young son.....

  • @twbass1 My hands are relatively strong from decades of playing and construction work. I've found out recently that I don't need a screwdriver anymore to change out the Dunlop straplocks! :D

  • thank you so much for this video...i had so much trouble dealing with this issue, it took me 45 minutes the first time.

  • @lorilately Glad to help!

  • @Bundy1 Dude i needed help so much thank you so much 5 stars and a like and also your son r.i.p

  • @SvddenDeth Thank you for your kind comments. We're glad we were able to help, and Rock On!

  • thanks for the video.. I just purchased one yesterday. Nice cool voice too.. reminds me of Fast 5 movie.. Toretto!

  • what a dirt simple solution to something that's been driving me crazy. I kept thinking I would wreck the straplock if I just pried it like that but they're pretty tough and your flathead screwdriver method worked like a breeze. thanks.

  • Very helpful video man, thanks for posting. Been having problems with these since i bought em', came with the wrong size screws and everything lol was lucky to find the right size lying around the house

  • Thanks man.

  • This video was really helpful and helped me put my straploks on a new strap in less than 5 minutes. Kudos.

  • I'm obliterating my thumbs trying to shove the freaking washer in. No more extra thick padded leather straps for me :((

  • no way! that easy too remove it? :-O i was searching for this soooo long. i have exact the same straplock. gotta remove it, and place it a bit more higher.

    thanks for the video!

  • Sorry to hear about your kid.. It's amazing how easy you make it look. The snap retainer clip just won't go in :/

  • @Phewson60 Keeping good pressure on that large washer underneath may help. Having thick strap material sometimes makes it difficult to squeeze all those little parts together. Good luck!

  • Use pliers. Worked for me.

  • Year thanks a lot thats a big help i m so stupid its soo easy

  • Thank you for helping with this easy solution. Big help! Well done.

    Best to you, Mike Davis

  • @mdavis876 Glad to help, Mike!

Another related note regarding Dunlop straplocks: The strap assembly does require lubrication periodically. What I do is apply a small drop of common household 3-in-1 oil to the end of the strap mechanism and work it in. I'll also put the same 3-in-1 oil on a Q-tip and swab the inside of the strap button on the guitar. You'll know if you need to do this if you hear "squeaks" coming through your amp! LOL.

  • Tanks for posting this!

  • do these work just like the flushmounted ones?

  • @infectionsman I am fairly certain the strap mechanism will indeed work with the flushmount Dunlops. Only the strap buttons differ as far as I know.

  • @Bundy1 cool kthxbye

  • hey i have a question does this product come with a strap???

    plz answer!!! love your vids!!

  • @jvnation No, as a rule Dunlop straplocks do not come with a strap. The guitar strap in this video is a Carvin/Levy's padded leather strap, available at Carvinguitars(dot)com. Also check out the Dunlop website for many varieties of straplocks!

  • helped a lot, thx man :)

  • thanks, very helpful!

  • Wow, that was so helpful- thanks! For the first time I was able to remove the lock without injury and curses. I even had my cat "helping"! Now I'll if see if I can get it back on...

    Thanks again!!!!

  • @SarahSpisak You're welcome, Sarah. Love your videos!

  • @Bundy1

    Thanks for watching! ;-)

  • Wow, that was so helpful- thanks! For the first time I was able to remove the lock without injury and curses. I even had my cat "helping"! Now I'll if see if I can get it back on...

    Thanks again!!!!

  • thank you that saved me lol

  • Owww! I seriously messed up my fingernail trying this!

  • Carvin! Oohh nice.

  • Thankss Dudee!!!! :D

  • Thanks a LOT!!!

  • PEARL JAM!!!! :D

  • @sicktkdchick

Before he passed away, my son (who shot this video) was a BIG fan of Pearl Jam. His favorite tune was "Wishlist." Glad you noticed the PJ in this vid; rock on!

  • Thank you so much for making this video! I was trying to figure out for the longest time how to remove the locks, I found a description... but I definitely needed to see it to understand.

  • Great vid you have there :) can i know if you guys actually drilled a hole or just screw the new strap holder? thanks in advance :)

  • On the strap itself, a hole was already there and I simply enlarged it.

As for attaching the strap button to the guitar, one should always have a pilot hole sized accordingly!

  • oh.. thanks :) well actually, i just screw the dunlop straplok strap pin in. The original strap pin screw is actually shorter and thinner where as the dunlop ones are longer, anyway, i just screw the new pin in without drilling ( the instruction told me to drill... oh well.. haha). Thanks for the help :)

    Cheers

  • Thank you! this video helped me from going crazy and throwing my guitar out the window

  • how do I attached the strap to the guitar itself??

  • @Thundershock0321 push the button in the center, insert the post into the strap button hole, and release the button.

    idiot

  • Yep, I'm an idiot 'cuz my straplocks didn't come with directions and none of the guys at the guitar store would show me how to install the straplocks unless I paid them!! that sure makes me an idiot!

and I wasn't asking how to attached the strap to the guitar. I'm asking how to put on the little nut that the strap hooks to that screws on. but I figured it out without your help, so thanks for nothing! :)

  • its easy trust me.

  • thanks, you're right!! it took me a little bit, but I figured it out! :)

  • thanks. i couldn't figure out how to get that E clip off.

  • Thanks Man! Am I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Nelson....

  • I f*cking HATE those stupid things!

  • thanks got a new strap for Christmas and didn't know how to change locks out. Merry Christmas

  • Glad to be of help. Merry Christmas to you as well and to all a Happy New Year!

  • Fuuuck putting the locking retainer back on is hard with a broken thumb.

  • Excellent, thank you! This short tutorial was perfect.

  • Hi Bundy! Today I received my Carvin CS3T with the straplock and your video helped me to figure out how to install it. By the way, my Carvin is the best guitar I have EVER played... Thanks!!!

  • Glad the video helped you, and enjoy that new guitar!

  • I'll stick to Schaller...

  • Thanks for the help Bundy:-)

  • You're welcome! Glad to be of service.

  • THANK YOU!! I had no idea it would be so easy to take off. Duh! You made it so simple.

Getting it back on turned out to be harder than with yours, but that was because I had used pliers to tighten it on at one point. If I had done it this way it would have been a whole lot easier. Oh well. Live and learn. Thanks for the learning.

  • Brilliant! No sweat! I might add that doing it on a softer surface also helps as it prevents the strap nub from sliding around on you (which I tried after a few unsuccessful attempts on my computer table). :)

  • Thanks Bundy1!

  • You're very welcome. Amazingly, this video has been up for 3 years now, and I'm glad it has been helpful for many of you!

  • haha thanks alot, piece of cake huh

  • Thanks, man! I needed to remove them off my old guitar to place them on my new one. Unfortunately, the strap pin on my new Warwick was getting bent and ruining the wood of my guitar. The Dunlop locks seem to be sturdier and the screw longer for extra support.

    Thanks again!

  • Nice video man, thankss

been trying to find out the best way to take them off for ageess :)

Nice music too, bit of Pearl Jam, love it :)

  • Thanks, I just got a carvin with the straplocks. It's awesome!

  • Enjoy your new Carvin guitar!

One is glad to be of help to all straplock users!

  • Thanks a bunch. This helped me put them on my guitar/strap tonight. Cheers...

  • Damn those things were a pain to install. The Schaller ones were far easier.

  • excellent tutorial, thanks!

  • is there any way to buy just the guitar part for these straplocks? i already have the whole system on one of my guitars and one of my straps, and I want to fit a guitar button to my other guitar so that I can use the same strap for both

  • Yes, you should be able to find a variety of different Dunlop strap buttons at your local dealer, OR at

    JimDunlop(dot)com > Products > Accessories

  • my dunlop straplocks lasted for about a year and now they're giving me some problems :(

    gonna try schaller next time!

  • thanks bro!

  • thanks!

  • Thanks a bunch

  • cheers mate :D

  • awesome! great! thank you ! VERY MUCH! VERY HELPFUL :)

  • thank you!

  • I may just be an idiot, but I was having a tough time getting the retainer clip on. Thanks a lot for clearing up the exact how of it!

  • I'm not worhty! Thats for the GREAT BIG TIP on removing 'em! THANK YOU!!!

  • You're very welcome and I'm glad the video was helpful to you. Rock on!

  • THANK YOU!!!

    very helpful for the removal

  • i used a extra heavy guitar pick to remove the ring when i got a new guitar

i also had to do some cutting on my strap

  • it worked perfectly for the first side and doesnt work at all for the second :( oh well ur vid was very helpful.

  • fantastic! It helped me a lot!

  • Thank you; this was very helpful. I just bought a used pair attached to a cheap nylon strap, hoping I could reinstall them on a better leather strap. I had no luck until I saw your video.

  • Thank you, this helped me with installation.

  • Thanks so much!

  • How am i supposed to remove it? do i use force? do i hafta press down?

    argh, its not coming off

  • oops~ dont worry about it, its done, lol

  • Glad you got it to work for ya! Yep, a little pressure on the outer washer and that C-ring ought to remove easily.

  • great video but the sad story kinda ruined my daay

  • Great video, shows VERY simply how to attach Dunlops. Better than a thousand instruction manuals.

  • thanks for posting this!

  • Great video and great camera job by Nelson!

  • fucking livesaver thanks so much

  • thanks that was helpfull

  • thnx alot. tried for hours .thanks

  • it took you hours to slide in a washer?

either your an idiot, or sarcastic.

  • dude. its hard without proper technique. it was like 45 min. exagerrated a bit . go try it

  • i know. that little locking washer is a pain to squeeze on

  • its fucking hard dude, after 30 mins i've jsut squeezed one washer on.

  • thx a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks so much. I was fighting with that darn strap all night. Very helpful, thanks again!

  • Hey man thank you so much!

This video was really helpful to me!!!

  • schallers are much more reliable and overall better because if you acidentally hit the button on that thing, it could fall out. schallers rest in a cup thing so even if the latch does fail for some unlikely reason, the guitar won't fall because it is resting in the cup. just thought anyone planing on getting straplocks should know.

  • I do love the Schaller straplocks, but they won't fit if your strap is made of a very thick material (like e.g. thick leather), so I use Dunlop in those cases.

  • thanks for that, i got my straplock and was like "wtf is that half-circle thing?!"

  • thank you

i bought a studded strap for my electric and decided i wanted to mix it up and use the strap on my acoustic

    thank you very much

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH. i just got a guitar wiht the things drive me nuts then found ur youtube video. Godsend. btw are u andy anderlot from guitarworld magazine lol coz ur voice sounds like him lol

  • Wow, for all the struggling i made with it before watching this vid, it was suprisingly easy to take off. Thanks man

  • Thank you! I couldn't figure this thing out, and didn't want to damage it but prying around. Your video was exactly what I needed.

  • Thanks so much! My husband just came in to ask if I could figure out how to remove the straplock, since he couldn't, and I couldn't either. Then we googled "Dunlop straplock" and found your video right away. Awesome. Thanks again!

  • Thanks alot man, I appreciate you and your son's help, god bless

  • oh and thank you

  • You're welcome. I'm very glad this video could be of help to anyone who uses the Dunlop straplocks! And believe me when I said I've stabbed myself with screwdrivers when I first started playing with these things, LOL.

  • you make it look easy i thought i had it then i couldnt do it so i had to watch again

  • what kind of strap is that?

really sorry about your son mate.

  • Very glad to know this video may have helped some people with the Dunlop straplocks (my son would have been happy to know this as well)! The newer they are, the harder they are to deal with (in most cases). You can tell by the gold plating on this one that I chose my newest set to demo with.

Don't forget a drop of 3-in-1 oil on that assembly every once in a while! Put a drop on the end that goes into the strap button and just work it in with the release button.

    Best regards,

    ~Bundy1
