Also, he built the falcon 9 for 1/10th the cost that NASA could do it for and it was successful on it's first launch. SpaceX's involvement actually improves NASA's long term plans. Now, instead of playing delivery truck to the ISS, they can focus more on actually exploring mars and beyond.
