  • Brilliant the moment he wakes up in 1973!! Ironically he looks very alive .. ofcourse with the help of this backround music

  • Life on Mars UK was the best. The American version sucked! (I'm from the USA btw.) The actors were horrible and the re-writes to the scripts were terrible. No one could hold a candle to Philip and John. Loved this show tons. Hoping to buy the Complete DVD set soon. Only saw the first two series/seasons of Ashes to Ashes here on BBC America. Hope they bring the final series/season over soon or at least put out a Ashes to Ashes Region 1 DVD Complete Set out.

  • Mancunian Way was opened in 1967, 6 years before when this was set: however the producers thought this wouldn't matter.

  • one of the best shows ever on bbc

  • @mbs2oo9

Agreed. After Doctor Who and Merlin, I think probably the best show in recent TV memory.

  • It did not work out as a series in the U.S. but with the right writing and casting, it could make a good motion picture.

  • One of the best series intro ever.

  • Fuck 2011. Take me to 1973.

  • @zprodigy Fuck yeah mate, me too!

  • @zprodigy become a cop, and jump in front of a car then :P

  • Loved the UK original Life on Mars. (Preordered the region 2 DVD of the series after watching the pilot premiere on BBC America. Yes, it was THAT good). Gave the US version a shot (I'm a Harvey Keitel fan), but the US version fell flat next to the orginal. One of the biggest problems that I had with it, was that the episodes seemed rushed and truncated--which is probably due to having to sell ad space. This is one of the best scenes in the series, but the US version didn't do it justice.

  • do you guys like the U.S version? i liked it

  • @mute754 No, it was a cheap ripoff of the UK series. And the US one had a terrible ending.

  • @Blarvtooth1 Unfortunately, I didn't care for the American ending of the series either. :( Actually, I didn't care for the US version of Sam, either. (And, I am not refering to the actor. I am talking about the character itself. It's been a while since I watched the series, but there was a scene at the end of the US pilot episode that really bothered me. I'd have to go back and watch the episode again [someday]... But, it left me thinking that the US Sam was not as upstanding).

  • @mute754 well by no means was it as good as the first one but i still think it was an okay show. The acting was top notch and well the ending was a little weird but at least it was different from the fist show that way it wasnt a complete knock off but hey everyone has the own likes and dis likes

  • @mute754 The US version is my favorite. I do love the UK version very much though.

  • And it just gets better from there

  • The american version is much better i think, but its so fail that the americans have ripped of everything from this scene in the same scene in the american version xD makes me laugh a little bit x)

  • @1usarobin the american show better!? i think i just dug your own grave.

  • I'm from Germany and I loved the show. What a shame that German TV would never produce such good work...

  • Best show ever!

  • i luv the creative thinkin behind it i mean where do u go if your in a coma?

  • @jellybeannean

Nowhere, dickhead, that's the whole point of being in a coma!

  • @p3rs0nan0ngrata

wow you sure have a way with words maybe we should take this outside.....

  • @jellybeannean

What the hell would that achieve?

Or do you just prefer sitting in the garden with your laptop?

  • @p3rs0nan0ngrata your a little bit strange aren't you ? another english yob with a bad attitude problem good luck with it all weirdo maybe you should spend your time messaging your friends (if you have any) then sending comments to someone you clearly dislike !

  • @jellybeannean obviously you dont physically go anywhere though your mind clearly does (just to clarify for those that are clearly in a coma!!)

  • @jellybeannean ...and where do we go after death?

  • @sophiascalpel its the million dollar question maybe nowhere?! Though if the korans to be believed a paradise awaits if the bible is to be believed we goto either heaven or hell though the truth of it is nobody is alive to tell the tale

  • @jellybeannean whatever. if gene hunt is not awaiting me as some kind of angel, i am not going anywhere!

  • @sophiascalpel haha i think i would be a little scared of the gene genie but sam on the other hand well .........

  • @jellybeannean after all gene is actually all sweet, gentle and someone who cares (as you can see in ashes to ashes)...hes just very embittered, frustrated and insecure somehow... thats how i always saw him... so typical for insecure people to always burst out with the most powerful lines and jokes and to beat people just for nothing. i do believe gene genie was a very cute and lovely guy when he was younger in "real life", before he got shot.. ....

  • @jellybeannean .....i do believe that all this must somehow have to do with him being stuck in this "world" between life and death and that he forgot everything but still has all this anger and frustration inside (like shaz in "ashes to ashes" tells about similar feelings and she never understood why she had them until she actually understood that she was dead).... just a theory... of course i believe he was always kinda, erm, special..or lets say "a little aggressive".. hahahah.

  • its so sad

  • Love this bit

    poor sam though
