Its an old video and this is my new account. Thanks for the 135000 views.
I would just like to mention again that this was NOT a full blow-off valve. It had a knob on it where you could adjust how much air was venting outside. You could either adjust it to full recirc, or 50% outside, and everything in between. We know (we even knew back then) that on all MAF-equipped cars, it will fool the ECU if you vent all the boost outside. No need to say it again.
That's not good for your engine and turbo.Yeah, its sounds cool. But Vw/audi stock turbo and ecu is not designed for it.I did the same on audi a4 ,but i got messages/codes on the ecu. Please take out and replace it with recirulating bov,That's why VW putted in there in the first place.Try for exampel forge 007 or forge splt-r.
A diverter valve is a valve that opens when the throttle body close and the turbo is still spooling to recirculate the air into the intake to avoid turbo damage. The blow off valve does the same thing but let the air out instead of recirculating it. Their ain't any better valve. The only difference is that you may experience a bit less lag after a shift with a DV because your turbo may have lost less momentum. Also, at idle a BOV is opened and sucks in unfiltered air and possibly debris...
brian ur prolly one of those asswholes that drices a shity civic thinks hes cool because his muffler sounds like shit ratteling in a box with cheap tunning ur reaserch is idiotic puttting a blow off valve benefits any turbo no matter what do some more research and come back with something smart :p
putting a blow off valve benifits your engine, and its pointless on these little cars cause they have small turbos that put the right amount of boost that wont harm your engine in the first place.
and what happens if you put a blowoff valve instead of a diverter valve? either way its letting excess boost escape before its forced into the throttle body. its a basic principle.
anybody who puts a blow off valve on a VW is an asshole. it's true. i've done research. there are no benefits to doing it and it lets us know you're one of the knobjobs who winds up the rpms then rips off the accelerator for people walking by to hear...who most likely don't give a shit.
it sounds good i have an a4 with a bov and no cel or nothin no diffreance at all just psshhh lol and as long as you plug the hole that sends air back to the intake you wont throw a code or check engin light. you got a forge on it half dv/bov
...says the maverick mechanic. Look, go back to driving those rented Mercedes and Bentleys, you obviously don't know nothing about engines, you just drive luxury cars at the parking / resataurant / dealer you work at and you think you're cool. And if you want to know what BOVs do, just read my other comments, I explained it there.
As I stated before, diesels don't need BOVs and if you put one, people won't take you seriously :D
But, if you want to really hear that turbo, I would say install a 2.5 inch straight pipe exhaust. The turbo will quiet down the sound of the engine so you don't sound like a ricer, and at the same time you will really hear the noise from the turbo as there wont be any more mufflers to quiet it down. There are some videos of that on youtube.
Well, I'm not too familiar with newer TDIs but I know that on old IDIs you control the diesel pump that is mounted on the engine. No throttle. If you don't believe me do some research.
No they don't. If you look at how a diesel engine works, there is no throttle. A BOV is made to release boost when you close the throttle (like when you shift) to make sure it doesn't bounce on the closed throttle and go back into the turbo to slow down its spooling.
i dont get why people want it to be louder..easiest way is to have it open, instead of recirculating which makes your car sound like shit adn get crappy gas mileage. Go for performance not how loud you can make it
how do you making that sound? i have a passat 1.8T like this and i put it a blow off from forge "SPLTR".... but the sound in not like that... more more silence :((
I don't know how the forge BOV is made, but the turbosmart we installed could be adjusted to shoot as much as 50% of excess boost in the air. It was adjusted like this when we recorded the video. Maybe you just have to adjust yours so it is more open...Another thing is that this car here has a GIAC remap and produces, according to the owner, around 21 psi of boost, therefore it makes a louder "pssshhht".
Hahaha never thought the passat would get so many views! God knows what this car has lived through.

@zr2chevypickupman for vw, audi cars a blowoff valve is acually not as good as a divverter valve...mabey you should do some research

zr2chevypickupman 2 years ago
diverter is recirculating which is beeter for motor and turbo
soxonmyfeet 2 years ago
how? lets see your logic on this topic of discussion.
zr2chevypickupman 2 years ago
@zr2chevypickupman the DV recycles the where the BOV puts it in the atmosphere....like snoop's weed.
brianpfeifer 2 years ago
well i know that, but i mean whats the big deal between the two?
zr2chevypickupman 2 years ago
@djnice83 hey man, i took your advice and did some more research: turns out i'm your dad.

sounds exactly the same as the DV that's MEANT for you car.

I always though that when the valve would open, the MAF would get a wrong reading due to the lack of air returning in the intake...

sounds dirty. what do you have to do to install somehting that bov? is there some computer shit you have to change or what?

Direct fit. No wiring involved.

@laurent345 is it diesel =?

will a universal BOV work on the stock 1.8t??
kiddkaprii 2 years ago
no it will pop a code since you don't throw any excess boost back in the intake

Nice job,
I have the 2001 passat 2.8 v6 so unfortunately I can't do this :(
Wish I had the money to put a turbo in there xD

But on the other hand, the sound of a V6 with an exhaust is really nice too!

bov doesnt do anything in gas cars either.

dumpvalve, you have that from the beginning but you can put in a real open dumpvalve, check FORGE, i got a forge dump.
Or you can even put in a open air filter ;)
shishcapone 3 years ago
hey if you put an open filter AND a blow-off valve, do you think it'll make an even louder sound???
laurent345 3 years ago
hey, test only open filter, you will se it will be a nice sound... If thats not enough you can put in a dumpvalve ;)
