  • Can't you fuckers just stop acting like a bunch of know it all hipsters and just enjoy the music.

  • f*cking awesome

  • fucking awesome

  • how the hell do P-90s get that heavy!?

  • @pageynumbert2 yeh awesome guitar that Les Paul - also Telecaster bass which many say was Fenders best. PLUS any band that features French horn gets my vote..

  • @pageynumbert2 It probably has to do with that Orange Amp behind him.

  • I'll have to watch the video again.I was on my hands and knees bowing to my monitor the first time and missed it.

  • Oh yeah! no doubt, in heaven if my friend Lucifer rides

  • What a great song&performance!!!

    p.s.:Fuck you Lou Cypher.

  • Just read the comments. Got to say, what difference does it make what label you put on the music? You either like it or you don't for gods sake.

  • The horn is great - even if it does sound like a fuckin elephant ~~~~~~~~~~

  • Se no inferno só tocar som assim quero ir para lá!

  • Muito LOKO!!!!!

  • lucifers friend is mega heavy. the guys below me need to kiss and make up. heavy is heavy. we all know good metal from shit metal and if we dont...then satan help our souls

  • I just removed all my previous comments, you guys should too. this little quarrel is getting really pathetic.

  • How did i miss these guys?...

  • This is a bad ass video and a kick ass tune

  • just listen

  • blabla bla

  • If you listen to their other albums you will better appreciate their talent. Sure their S/T "metal album" is great stuff, but their work on "Rock and Roll Singer" and "Banquet" showed just how talented they were. Even though it is good, people dwell too much on this album.

  • metal is a relative term...plenty, and I mean plenty of bands back then had "metal chops."

  • I think it was the name that kept 'em down.the 70's were like that, sad.

  • Killer band! But, remember, first is different than best and best is a matter of opinion.

  • maybe some red dirt to boot,i like the list n i tend to agree

  • maybe some red dirt to boot

  • Black Sabbath clones.... Guitarist even wears the big cross like Iommi....

  • Comment removed

  • @beroth77 Yeah so & what's your point... do you honestly think just because Sabbath's first album came out the same time that other bands didn't try to copy them at or around the same time if you don't think so you delusional... or are you going to sit there & try to tell me that this bands sound & the gutarist get-up looking like Iommi was just coincidence... anybody with half a brain can tell these guys tried to follow right behind Black Sabbath style & sound.... Sabbath copied them right?

  • Comment removed

  • @beroth77 I agree other bands that try to immulate or copy other bands are showing influence from another band... I never said anything about not being influenced though...

  • @ogrebattle22763 Look some heavy metal from 1966 much heavier than 1970's sabbath watch?v=7LxYKchAISg.

don't talk about you don't know?? heavy guitar distortion and these dark harmonies i describe to you are the soul of Sabbath not meaningless details please...learn something about it...cause i see its like i'm talking Greek to you with these "details"

  • @beroth77 Excuse me don't talk about what I don't FUCK YOU douchebag... I was willing to keep this a civilized discussion but being that you think your some self righteous know it all this conversation is over DICK.... So what you have a few metal bands from Brazil & that qualifies you as some authority on the world of music keep your mouth shut schmuck...

  • @ogrebattle22763 i'm beying civilized ...not meant to ofend you ...i'm no expert at all...this things i said are very basic.to an avarage musician.it doesnt mean i think im better than you or something...you could learn somethting and not beying all agressive.relax

  • @beroth77 Fuck off schmuck...

  • @ogrebattle22763 your loss...Queen is so much more creative about harmonies than sabbath...but you'll never know...cause intolerance and anger ...ok...its your life.bye

  • @beroth77 Oh your going to teach me something is that right.... Class is in session get the fuck out here...

  • @ogrebattle22763 ok...not worthy to argue with blind deaf minded who started talking to me like i was trash..than pretends that treied to be civilized ahhaha read your first message to me you animal..and fuck you live for ever in your little mind and die in ignorance and fear just for silly pride...END OF TALKING.

  • @beroth77 Yeah do everybody a favor & shut up.... you idiot...

  • @ogrebattle22763 Are you a Queen fan? cause of your nickname. If so nice..

    .i am too

  • @beroth77 Iron Butterfly only played proto-Doom on the IB Theme, but the Doom Metal it's not metal really, and the Monks are Proto-Punk. For proto-metal are the Sound of Imker and the Deep Purple MK I, and 70's Heavy Metal are Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Lucifer's Friend, Night Sun and Budgie, and the people never understand that hard rock bands like Led Zeppelin and Heavy Psychedelic bands like Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer and Sir Lord Baltimore ARE NOT METAL, metal is other thing...

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon Black Sabbath Not Metal? Wow, i just read the stupidest comment of the day.

    *facepalm*

  • @realityfrominsanity The First 5 albums doesn't listen like Metal...

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon Are you fucking serious? Their first five albums were fucking heavy! The song Black Sabbath (on their debut) is pure fucking doom! Which is basically the first form of heavy metal. Have you even listened to Into the Void, Electric Funeral, Under the Sun, The Wizard or Cornucopia? Probably not. I bet you probably have only heard the song "Paranoid"..

  • @realityfrominsanity Stoner and Doom are not metal, i listened all that songs and doesn't sounds like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate, Motorhead, Saxon, Venom etc. That sounds like Heavy Psychedelic Rock, for heavy metal fathers Deep Purple...

  • That's an extremely narrow-minded revisionist approach to take - you do know you could move the bar up 20 years and say the exact same thing about today, that Venom, Possessed and Slayer aren't metal but proto-core because they don't utilize modern facets like breakdowns or chugs, right?

People may have retrograded it to "proto" today, but how do you think it sounded then?

Sorry, but Lucifer's Friend (and especially Black Sabbath) are most certainly immovable bastions of Heavy Metal.

  • @Durandal1717 Black Sabbath in the 70's played an speed sound with classical influences? I don't think so, that sound was created by Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Night Sun and Lucifer's Friend, ¿you listened sometime to Judas Priest, Saxon, Venom, Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden etc. To say that Black Sabbath are metal fathers? that sounds like Deep Purple, not Sabbath, if you want Sabbath sounds, try Heavy Psychedelic Rock...

  • Comment removed

  • @mikexlong Yes, doesn't sound Metallic...

  • Comment removed

  • @mikexlong Is NOT metal, because DON'T have the sounds of the Heavy Metal music, Doom Metal is Heavy Psychedelic Rock like the Stoner Rock...

  • Comment removed

  • @mikexlong Hard Rock is a more heavier Blues Rock, Heavy Metal is Boogie Rock with some Progressive leanings and Doom Metal and Stoner Rock are Heavy Psychedelic Rock, it's very different and the first doom band is called Wicked Lady...

  • Comment removed

  • @mikexlong Wicked Lady is pure proto-Doom, Black Sabbath played Stoner Doom and Bedemon are the first totally Doom band. In the eighties was other bands like St Vitus and Trouble, and seriously, Doom Metal is not metal, metal is speed, virtuosism, technical solos, not slow tempos and psychedelic structures...

  • Comment removed

  • @mikexlong Understand, doom is not metal, don't have the caractheristics of heavy metal music, you listened Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Saxon, Mercyful Fate, Venom etc.? That is metal, not psychedelic slow music...

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon 99.9 per cent of metalheads agree: Doom is metal. you may not think it's metal, but it is.

  • @mikexlong 99.9%? the metalheads always forget Doom and Stoner...

  • Comment removed

  • @mikexlong You are talking about posers like you...

  • Comment removed

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon get the fuck off dumbass

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon retarded, wtf are you talking about piece of shit.. what about pentagram, obsessed, mercy? these bands are metal if you are fucked up or not. you don't have any fucking idea what are you try to mean..

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon st vitus black sabbath psychedelic? gtfo douchebag

  • @ipwnzyounow Shut up you piece of shit, i'm sure that you think that Pink Floyd are the most psychedelic band, when they played more Progressive Rock.

Pentagram, St. Vitus, Trouble, Candlemass etc. It's obviously, the roots of that bands are the Psychedelic music, not a Speed music like the played by Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate, Motorhead etc. That was a product of the Deep Purple sound, now shut up...

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon saint vitus and trouble psychedelic? you must be fucked up with a lot of dicks coming out from your mouth whore..

  • @ipwnzyounow And other thing YOU ASSHOLE, the distorsions of the Early Black Sabbath it's more than obvious, are psychedelic, the fact is that you are a poser who thinks that all the music that have a lot of distorsion is Metal...

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon distortions? a lot of fucks everywhere make you think like pussy..

  • @ipwnzyounow Oh, the little poser slut is have been killed with cocks, LOL, your words are obvious, you think that crap like Nu Metal, Industrial, Metalcore etc. are Metal, you are so retarded...

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon well.. you can suck my balls all the time... I propose something..follow me on some video of saint vitus, trouble etc, let's see how your ass widens in their dicks .pussyface you accept ?

  • @ipwnzyounow You are so weeping, little gay

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon mon prick face.. you talk without sense..maybe you afraid for the black cocks are ready to cum on your face off. fag, if you talk with true and entanglements those dudes are ready to shut your fucking mouth.. still laughing about st. vitus is psychedelic.. haha

  • @ipwnzyounow don't cry, little queer LOL

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon queer? what the shit are you talking? go back to your illegal country asshole i can't believe myself how you said about saint vitus..obviously you never listen to them yet and real some real music from 70s and 80s..so cleared up your fucked ass..still laughing about your pathetic ideas,.. let's go to see how you resist to a really tight dick on some sain'ts video on youtube dumbass

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon get the fuck off this video, you stupid little cunt your life is worth nothing

  • @TheAidenFace lol

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon what you fucking say about doom isn't metal or what? dumbass

  • @mikexlong agree with you..

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon You realize that Doom Metal is Metal at its most basic form, right? It is, quite literally, the most Metal genre there is. You'd have to be a mindless idiot who knows nothing about Metal to think Doom Metal, which is arguably the darkest and heaviest of all Metal genres, isn't Metal.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow What? i don't think that Doom Metal is metal, isn't metal, is some kind of heavy psychedelic stuff, other stuff that doesn't sounds like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate, Motorhead etc.

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon You are incredibly wrong. Perhaps you should educate yourself on Metal before you bother making such claims. There are NWOBHM bands that are more Psychedelic than most Doom Metal bands.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow I educate myself, that's why because i don't consider Doom like a heavy metal subgenre, where's the metal distortion, riffs, beats, solos, voices and estructures of metal music? i don't listen nothing there...

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon hahah what are you dumb? you act like an headless idiot immediately such a fucking ignorant, it's obviously doom metal have riffs, distortion, solos and all the shit you don't even fucking understand yet..how you can recant about the doom isn't metal if all the bands play with these things? have a cock in the brain or what?

  • @ipwnzyounow Where's the heavy metal sounding? before i listen Doom Metal, Stoner Rock and these things, i was listened metal, and i don't listen nothing of that genre in those subgenres.

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon man, you have to be kidding around this shit, nobody are talking about "doom metal" sounds like heavy metal, you're the one who is complaining about the doom metal isn't sounds like metal that's the point ....

  • @ipwnzyounow yes, but here there's some people that don't understand that Black Sabbath are not the metal fathers, and are other bands that really sounds like heavy metal, that is the point of my dicussion

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon well agree around with black sabbath ain't the first metal band, but wait a second..what heavy metal bands you can name without adding psychedelic and prog bands? let me hear how much you already know about the 70s..

  • @ipwnzyounow Judas Priest, Rainbow, Gillan, Free, Humble Pie, Trapeze and Whitesnake if you don't want progressive bands, Deep Purple and Uriah Heep can consider it prog, right?

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow yeah this faggot are terribly wrong..

  • @HumbertoGillanLennon YOU'RE FUCKING PATHETIC ASSHOLE YOU DON'T EVEN KOW WHAT THE FUCK IT'S DOOM METAL..

  • @ipwnzyounow Don't cry, little sucker ;), the only pathethic here are you

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU

  • Excelente sonoridade! perfeito!

  • @leachim04 oh.. and all along i thought they were referring to hitler...

  • what is the meaning behind the bands name?

  • John Lawton kicks ass! If you like Sabbath, Zepp and/or any of the bands mentioned by @nholt (and of cousre Uriah Heep) you should listen to the debut album of LF.

  • Wow, Lucifer really did a shitty job on the lead singers hair.

  • musuca de dioses

  • Is that the singer from Quiet Riot? It looks like him.

  • the singer reminds me of that alien in american dad

  • good record

  • the vein on his forehead just makes the video better!

  • Deep Purple+Uriah Heep = Lucifer's Friend and Night Sun

  • Comment removed

  • @beroth77 I'm not going to get into all the meaningless technicalities about fuzz boxes & this & that other then to say these guys looked & sounded like Sabbath in this video & there can be no disputing that...

  • He also sounds a bit like Klaus Meine, the singer from the Scorpions, good tune.

  • HARDROCK is what You Get !

  • Uriah Heep (Dave Byron era of cos) with a French horn = Lucifer's Friend...

  • Más garrulos que la hostia, pero la música no está mal.

  • Fuckin awesome

  • This cat had the PERFECT rock and roll voice! A little bit of Dio, David Coverdale, Phil Mogg, Dave Byron, Freddy Mercury, and Jim Rutledge all rolled into one! Unfortunately, he wasn't much in the looks department!

  • this is serious

  • It's 1970!original material to me.since it was released the same year as sabbath's first lp

  • This is some reeeeally underrated metal band...one of the metal creaters for shure

  • EXCELLENT!! EΞΑΙΡΕΤΙΚΟ

  • Deep Purple + Led Zeppelin + Black Sabbath = Lucifer's Friend

    WOW!!!

  • 1:30 you dont see enough french horn these days!

  • Fredo Corleone on vocals.

  • reminde me of led zeppelin

  • @StormwarriorSaros yeah they took robert plants wail from immigrant song but lucifers friend are awesome anyways

  • This band definitely has similarities with Zeppelin(immigration Song//Ride the sky). This band does stand on it's own and no TV rock history in America ever mentions this band. I do believe Germany played a major role in creating HEAVY METAL. No doubt. Remember the Band "Coroner"????

  • from peru !!

  • I don't think any one band "created" heavy metal. The sheer number of groups emerging all at once disproves this. I think the sound emerged organically out of the 60s. Jimi's genius was in using distortion and feedback as an instrument itself, and that seemed to open the doors for louder and louder rock bands. The Cream established a blueprint for others to follow. Blue Cheer blew the paint off the walls, and suddenly there's a dozen "heavy" rock bands on the scene, influenced by blues or jazz.

  • @gamesDAMNED There was one person who but a heavy song on an album back in 1965, after this heavy song was put on an album every one copyed and begain to put heavy songs on albums. The name of this person was Frank Zappa the album was "Freak Out." The song was the brain police. After this lots of people then but heavy songs on albums untill black Sabbath put out a whole album of heavy songs.

  • @corm1000 Aha! Who Are the Brain Police! It just so happens that I have that song uploaded on my Youtube channel, recorded from the mono vinyl release, in fact. Very sludgy in that Sabbath sort of way, and while a parody of acid rock, it probably did end up influencing the music for real.

  • The Raconteurs sound a lot like them. Does anybody agree?

  • I worked in a record store during the '70's and even my boss asked me (after hearing this) "Where do you find this sh*t?" (compliment).

  • I Love The Album Artwork ! Lurch an Uncle Fester , Hell yeahhh

  • The band members are ugly as fuck and I love the band !

  • Everybody knows Sabbath, Zepplin, etc... but It is a shame bands like this have been forgotten and don't get any airplay.

  • @nholt Well we haven't forgotten Lucifer's Friend ! :D In my point of view, the TRUE FATHERS OF HEAVY METAL MUSIC are as follows:

    1) Black Sabbath

    2) Blue Cheer

    3) Sir Lord Baltimore

    4) Lucifer's Friend

    5) Led Zeppelin

    6) Deep Purple

    7) Budgie

  • @doom696mented You can't be more right. I would also add Mountain, UFO and Ancient Grease.

  • @doom696mented

I completely agree with this list but would add Judas Priest and Scorpions for the influence of their superb 70's material.

  • @doom696mented you forgot Judas Priest

  • @doom696mented All good selections, BUT, you forgot about the almighty WARPIG! Search for the song "Rock Star", SO AWESOME! I myself just rediscovered it after having my memory jogged by your list

  • @ProphetWolf I know Warpig. But let's face it man... How many people know about Warpig or... uhm High Tide... Tractor, Dom... ? There soooo many bands from the late 60s and early 70s who influenced heavy metal/hard rock, you know. But from all of these bands, only FEW OF THEM are the true fathers or pioneers of heavy rock/metal music. Black Sabbath is without any fucking doubt the most important, well-known and powerful pioneer-band.

  • @doom696mented

Coincidentally, a list of some of the best bands of all time! Don't forget Aussie act Buffalo, however!

  • @doom696mented What about high tide? Holy shit dude. Nobody knows about high tide, I swear to god, go look up high tide - sea shanties.

  • @VirtualDynamite I know High Tide, man. I know their "Futilist's Lament" song... I'll check the song you've mentioned also. Well... if you put it that way, there are hundreds of bands that influenced the creation of heavy metal. I've only mentioned the most important and well-known bands. High Tide for instance is one goddamn obscure fucking band. I mean... they're so obscure they're almost zero, you know?

  • @doom696mented Where's Uriah Heep? :/

  • @Russocass and Bedemon

  • @doom696mented You're right :)

  • I always give credit to John Lawton as one of the best singers of rock.

  • the keyboardist is fisting that trumpet like he's suppose to!

  • It is like a mixture of Deep Purple,Yes,Black Sabbath,Uriah Heep,Scorpions and more "ALL IN ONE"!!!!!!

  • TOTALLY "AWESOME"!!!!!!

  • UNDERESTEMATED IS JUST THE FIRST WORD!!!

  • Wow. How often do you see a French horn featured in a heavy metal song? Fucking brilliant bastards!

  • Traveling this dark world, leaving light behind

    Seeing things I shouldn't see

New eyes I got to find

    Mars, Venus and stars shaking

    Their heads at me

No more todays, tonight I'll be riding the sky!!!

    Fucken Yeah!

  • Ive never seen another band use a french horn and i oplayed on in 70s

  • Best.

  • The singer looks like Kevin Dubrow and sounds like The Scorpions. Thanks for posting, there weren't that many metal bands in the early 70s and everyone doing it back then deserves a little pioneer cred....I think they are pretty good.

  • that singer sure does look like joey belladonna of anthrax... thanks for posting, i have never heard this band...

  • Superb band, this album and the "Banquet" one (albeit different) are cornerstones!!! I used to blast this album out and annoy the neighbours! Toxic Shadows, Free Baby...

  • I you like the song, you'll love the album!

  • why cant good music like this be appreciated in the world man? I want this played on my radio its SO good so good...

  • Woah, fucking amazing!

  • shouldn't the title be riding the sky? or right in the sky? or is it just their bad grammar?

  • He sounds a bit like dio...

  • @PetieFr I was saying that the other day.. Think he goes a bit higher then Ronnie

  • FALLEN!

  • That first LF album is a cult classic to this day

  • não tem jeito, música boa só a dos anos 70 mesmo. rock pauleira então nem se fala, nasci na época errada mesmo, que merda.

  • Lucifer's Friend were GREAT! I can remember the DAY I bought their first album around '74 or so. I bought it & the NY Dolls first album the same day. NO CONTEST! LF wiped the floor with them!

  • I once went to see Uriah Heep ONLY 'cos John Lawton was their singer that tour! It sure wasn't to see the headliners Kiss!

  • 1 German!!! rock band who was wellcome in USA, but they play not very long time(((( Awesome!!!

  • This band is incredible. I can't believe that it took me until 2011 to discover them! That french horn is blowing my mind, and I can't believe this killer band never broke really big. I feel they blow Zep out of the water.
