You could also just upload the CD to your harddrive. Why make it complicated? PC, doc camera, and overhead projector. We don't all the have the room, or the funds, for all of the tech gear. Maybe in a perfect world....
Yes, lose the feet. As a librarian, I love super sizing my books. BUT I don't use an IPOD, (not everyone can afford that), and I can record using a usb mic to my harddrive, if I wanted to , which I don't. You could have a volunteer turn the page, as that seems "questionable", work-wise. Sometimes we rely TOO much on technology, not enough on human intereaction. In a high poverty school like mine it's a very affordable tool, as I have no smartboard. I need books, but have no budget, for 3 years.
I bought Jerrilyn's book last summer! She made it look so easy and fun. I remember she emailed me and was surprised that I didn't have any of the technology that she says is so important. I told her that she had encouraged me not to be afraid of technology and that I wanted to include more of it in my classroom. I actually purchased my own document camera, a Ladibug, and I LOVE it!! I had a projector installed in the fall, and they've made a huge difference! I'm getting an iPod next!! :-D
Yes! My students are 100% actively engaged throughout the entire book! Do i share stories on my iPod all the time? No, I read plenty of books to my kids! However, each book that is read by me or by a student acting as "teacher" , is presented under the document camera in order for the class to view the concepts of print. Using the iPod is just one strategy that works with students of this iPod Generation! Each year my students are reading & writing up a storm due to the document camera!
I don't believe this... are you really advocating that teachers should put on a Cd or Ipod to read a story while you merely turn the pages??? You have to be kidding!
@schlucknik Teachers have been using books with records, tapes, CDs and iPod downloads for many years. It is important that children hear another voice, pace and style while hearing written language. I always try to bring in another voice for the the children to hear. Also, if you noticed the teacher is showing the students each word as it is spoken to help guide their understanding of print to language.

That is so gross, showing off feet! If you want to be taken seriously, I recomment you stop showing off the pedicure.

Teachers need to get into the 21st century if they want to make an impression on todays kids. Mrs. Stover thinks like kids do.
