I played with Cris Kennedy in American Youth Ensemble, sharing a space on Lake St. (The Music Factory?, second floor, brick walls). Is JHeavy Manners still in Chicago (or NY). Thought Shel was drumming at that time? I just remember being 19-20 and playin with Chris after The Immunes split and he had the space with Heavy, and the we moved down to the hourly stage with PA an Al and Stevo were was always checing us out. Rochelle was playing with Nick by then. I always loved you all.
Hello Jimmy,I'm little blond Michael During from Copenhagen...from the mid seventies :) Oh my I've been trying to look you up for years my friend..Always been thinking of you hoping you were doing ok...Anyway,ive made a friend request to you Jimmy....Would be great to be able to write to you my friend Hell this is great Jimmy I can't believe it please respond this has been years :)
Just a shout and thanks to some of the schools and school radio stations who played our records and treated the band so well. Here we go... thanks UiC,U of Chicago,So. ILL,IL State,Michigan,Wisconsin-Madison, Kansas,Nebraska, Grinenll College, St. Olaf and many others . Their radio stations played our records and promoted events for our band. Last but not least theres Northwestern University....they were close by a part of the community. They kept us busy with gigs. Thanks to you all. Jimi
We produceded and made this video for around $800.00 as I remember. We rented a camera and shot it in 2 or 3 days. The opening shots were shot in front of my house on Kenmore Ave. on the north side of Chicago, Other shots were on the El stops at Diversey. The dance and performance shots were taken at one of the best music clubs in the world....The Park West. That Video Appeared on Rock America, many local and national music shows. I once saw it on a friday nite show with Bowie and M. Jackson
Great club man! Haven't been there for years but I was just talking to a friend who still lives in Chicago about it! Great reggae............ska. very "authentic" environment..........loved the place!!
As I remember Jim was from Hyde Park (as I was a Hyde Parker too)and at the time the band was at it's peak I lived across the alley from him in Uptown. Kate worked in a retro store (long gone)on Clark street called Indulgance. I went to see them almost every week for a long time. AHHHH those were the days my friends. Needless to say they were one of my all time faves. Good times good times.
Heavy Manners played at my fraternity at Northwestern . . . Kate used my room to change . . . my gf didn't like that LOL. They also played at NU senior party week b4 graduation 1982. Saw them many times . . . most fun!
Thanks for posting this vid. I never new there was one for this song. If you didn't know the sax player was a DJ on WXRT (Frank E. Lee or Frankie Lee). I read an artical on them at that time in the Illinois Entertainer.
I wouldn't say they 'led' the ska movement, but they were a lot of fun to watch. In fact, my wife and I saw them on our first date. Good band, good songs, never put out a bad record.
Wow,,,,the video actually exists!! Thank you X1000!
