  • nico sucked and the VU hated her

  • This is from Poor Richard's 1967 The EPI minus a hospitalized Lou Reed I think. Mo Tucker on bass Angus Maclise on drums. The European Son : studio

  • delicious, opiate version of venus in furs

  • @leyoug haha mate 2 years and counting....

  • haha mate. excellent. 2 years and counting!

  • This is a FLASH °o-[]

  • this spirituak experience.it shows how rock and colors go well together.theyre meant to expand you to other dimensions in yourself.

  • Where can I download THIS version of the song??

  • Cale singin'

  • who the fuck cares about the rock n' roll hall of fame? No one pays attention to that shit.

  • @necrogauge amen, no one gives a fuck

  • i heard this song in The Doors movie but never knew wat it was until now

  • My vote for the "Grooviest" vid on youtube!!!!

  • wow, this video's really cool.

  • Cale singing is amazing: is there a complete copy of this (Venus) available? The song writing in VU was on par with Morrison, Dylan, Waters/Barret, Mick/Keith, & jamming on par with CREAM, et al; Lou never gives a coherent reason why he left, but perhaps Cale cd have rejoined, singing as he does here; the VU were one of the greatest bands ever; only stupid, puritan, neurotic prejudice from radio barons over songs like Heroin, Sister Ray, kept the VU caged, unheard, & unknown. What vile tragedy.

  • I have much to learn.

  • anyways, who' are the people dancing?

  • That we're Mary Woronov and Gerard Malanga. They performed a wipedans during this song and they were part of The Factory from Andy Warhol. Andy made total art with The Velvets: music, film projection, light shows and dance all together. The man was allready living in the future! Great isn't it?

  • is it cale singing?

  • It is John indeed ! This is a really special performance. Maybe Lou had a cold?

  • whatever the reason, it's nice to hear

he sings it in the demos aswell, wonder how they decided Lou would to the album version

    the both sing it great

  • Normaly it is impossible for John to sing and play the Violen at the same time. And the viola has a central part in this song. If you look at the video dvd "Velvet Redux Live MCMXCIII" a live recording made in Paris, you see John playing the viola and Lou playing the guitar and singing the song. All the live versions, except the one above show the same setup. So luthander, pardon me for my extreem fixation on all the things that matters Lou Reed, Warm Greats from BillyBoy.

  • Are you saying it was therefore impossible for Cale to be singing here, on Venus? It surely isn't Lou, who is then? Cdn't JC play & sing? This is not Sterling's voice, as in Riding into the Sun, on Quine tapes, one of the best pieces of music ever done...Lou solo tho' is great, and most people in 70s found LOU via Rock n Roll Animal, perhaps the greatest album in rock in roll history, along with Get Yer Yas Out, GI, Physical Graffiti, Live at Leeds...

  • I listen't very carefully again. And it sounds like there's no violin but an organ. And John can certainly play organ or piano and sing at the same time. So I think you're right. It is John Cale indeed. You can even hear his British/Welshman accent. But I still have my point: John never sings when he plays the violin!

Greetings from Bill, which is my real name.

  • @WillemMijndert he sings there is even a video on youtube with him singing while playing the violin

  • whatever, I'm glad he did it!

  • Ingrid Superstar at her "finest" (???)

  • i think you both should shut the fuck up

  • iwantwatermellon Why do you continue to go on about it? If you think RBSilly is distracting from the music why do you continue to engage yourself in a conversation with him/her? Right or wrong just enjoy the music. BTW I don't see anything wrong with RBSilly's taste in music. To each there own.

  • haha why did my comment get a thumbs down? lol

ps: rockabillysilly, dont mention the real world. When you're listening to the velvet underground, its all an ~~~~~~~~~~~~illusion ~~~~~~~~~

go take your real world somewhere else.

  • No, haha I think you're going on a vicious thumbs down rampage.

Have a sense of humor man.

  • i don't use the thumbs down option.

i have the greatest sense of humor around...why do you think i never gave you a thumbs down in the first place?

    LOL

  • You again! I forgot about you. Me, a thumbs down loving person? Is that why the last time I was on here all my comments pertaining to you had the exact same amount of thumb's down. Either you have your little friends on here thumbing me down or you have a lot of time on your hands. And for what? Simply to restore your damaged ego? Good day.

  • LOL! Like you aren't? You're the one that's keeping tabs, not I and nice try!

    Old...what a very irrelevant assumption...

  • You're really immature. If you don't like the Beatles, then that kind of proves you've got shitty taste in music.

  • @iwantwatermellon

If i were your father I would have rolled you over on your face as you lay in your crib asleep.

  • Comment removed

  • to iwantwatermellon: it's u who's wrong,...all the authority figures (and they're not more than figures) u mentioned have misguided u,...it's not u who were always wrong,...unicorns do exsist,..there's at least two people who have seen them,...u & me;::::

  • this is not...

  • **Read my comments from the bottom.

  • That is the problem though. How can you get a grip on reality when the thing you desire most is so surreal and otherworldly? The worst part of it is that you no longer have school friends to pretend that the teachers were wrong, and that they too believe in unicorns. No, those people are brainwashed by top 40 songs and television. Your teachers have become more powerful, and your trusty friends have turned into sheep.

  • welcome to the real world...

  • Oh how wise of you. Please regurgitate more cliches, as if YouTube comments don't have enough already.

  • no, not cliche, reality...you must spend a lot of time reading youtube comments in order to come to that conclusion. do know there is more to life than sitting around reading "cliche youtube comments"?

  • It was heartbreaking to know that something you dreamed about and wanted more than anything in the world was utterly unattainable and "not real". That was my sense of security, and my imaginary world. Well, 11 years later, I feel this way about music. Classic rock to be exact. This kind of music. But the whole world is against you for wanting that now. Instead of teachers, it's the media, and your parents, who turned on you and say that you need to get a grip on reality.

  • This video reminds me of when I used to believe in fairies when I was a little girl. I went to a Catholic school and they told us to pick our favorite animal, and I chose a unicorn, but the teacher said "Well Noah didn't bring those on his ark. They don't exist." I was four years old and I wanted a unicorn more than anything, so much, that even my own parents couldn't tell me they didn't exist.

  • I heard julian's voice was similar to this guy's...I don't see it :s

  • what song nico singing?

  • it called "it was a pleasure then" it's off her first solo cd

  • Well, Madonna herself isn't that special, though I like her voice. But the producers that creates the music give a product of quality. Sure it's pop, but it's good quality pop. Listen to Music, Beautiful Stranger, American Life, I Want You, and tell me the music is poor...

I'm interested in every kind of music since I believe they all got some interesting elements.

And I love the integrity of Madonna. She's recently been helping a lot of artists like Iggy Pop, Gorillaz, Gogol Bordello, etc.

  • SHE'S helped IGGY?

Only with the Hall of Fame, because those motherfuckers won't induct The Stooges even though they made a bigger impact than more than half of those nutbrained fuckers in the Hall of Fame (when you influence punk, metal, grunge, the entire 90s scene, etc. you deserve the fucking spot!)

But he was "helped" by Bowie all the way back in the mid-70s when he checked into rehab and started making solo albums. She's made no impact on his career, period.

  • Madonna looks like Ren Hoek Iggy is still cool

  • @deadboys1010

Apparently she taught him how to perform cunnilingus. That's pretty major help if you ask me.

  • @deadboys1010

"Nico taught me how to eat pussy."

    -Iggy Pop

She was influential over a lot of people not just Iggy. No matter what you have to say about her, her relationships, her music, or her art.

  • @benjamminbond778899 Nico or Madonna?

My reply was to an argument on Madonna helping out Iggy. And I stand by the fact that Madonna was simply a colorful, mass-marketed 80s fashion model. No talent necessary.

I've gone solid months on listening solely to The Marble Index, so I'm with you if you're talking about Nico.

  • @deadboys1010 well said felah

  • @deadboys1010 The hall of fame would have no credibility if they didn't induct Iggy and the stooges.Good thing the finally did. Side note: John Cale of the velvet underground wrote the guitar part for "I wanna be you dog"cause hes awsome

  • I like to think I have good tastes in music, the fact that we all got here by looking for VU stuff proves we all have, at the very least, musical tastes that are developed. But I enjoy some of the music from later in her career. I cant stand her as a celebrity/person though. All musical genres have good and bad music within. I hate almost all modern rap, but Saul Williams is one of my favorite musicians...whereas Soulja boi could die TODAY and I'd laugh. Pop is no exception. It has good & bad

  • Prefer her earlyer stuff. Don't know two much about her personality though.

Thrust me, there IS some good modern rap. It's just harder to find. There is awesome hip-hop producers, and a couple of very good rappers. Take a look at MF Doom...or Dälek if you like experimental music.

  • she is poor and has no integrity

  • locosiko, judging a band by their technique quality is just stupid. Velvet Underground, as many other great bands, is valued by the feeling they create, by the concept (drone rock(, and by their lyrics.

Velvet Underground is awesome. And uh...I think Madonna is nice too, even though Velvet Underground is 100x better.

  • Well that's nice that you think Madonna is nice, but I don't know what in the hell she has done for music! Really, what? Lousy radio ready crappy pop songs that go absolutely nowhere. Madonna's popularity was one of the things that turned me to groups like The Velvet Underground and all the S.F. bands of the '60s back when I was 10 years old. There's just so much MORE!

  • This is just fantastic - I mean really great. Sorry Locosisko if you don't get it - and Madonna is not influencial, she is the influenced. Hearing Cale and Nico reminds me of how white rock'n'roll is folk based - and I suspect Reed didn't get that although he is the muse. Influencial no because they can't be touched - more inspirational.

  • By the way, that's CALE singing!! I don't think I've ever heard him sing this with them.

  • Art

  • well, i can't think of a better way to start the day off. were these guys great, or what? incredible!

  • Maybe you don't like them and sure according to music theory they are a mess but still almost everyone except you likes them, and if an album is called one of if not the most influential albums ever by hundreds of musical historians how bad can it be. Please get your head out your ass and use your mind and accept that your opinion isn't the only one out there.

  • ...important and influential is also Madonna, but is she great?!you're the one who should get his head not out ass,but out of the taste of the bunch of the "critic-listeners".

  • Not just great . . . one of the 3 or 4 greatest rock and roll bands EVERRRR!!

  • Its fine if you dont like the band...i dare you to find a band that everyone unanimously upon as being great. but why do you have to go and undermine others opinion as if yours counts more? Music is only as good as poeple's response to it, and just because you dont respond well to it...there are millions that disagree with you, and last time i checked 1,000,000:1 wasn't in your favor.

  • best song... not realy but ist werry good: ))

  • Thanks for posting (tfp)!

  • great stuff

  • not the recorded version, but as close as that song was ever going to get to it live

  • was that the real v g does anyone know it must be bloody rare if it is especailly being in colour
