A Kabuliwala remembers his daughter in Afgastinam when he is in India and relives the childs memory in small girl he sees while selling Hing(Asfordite)
wow, manna de' sung this song sooooooooooooo perfectly and smoothly. listening this song makes your reflexes so relaxed and relieved...i get such feeling from rafi sahab songs but manna de is also a very good singer of his time
@alexreid1983 I feel elated on reading your comments. As far as singing calibre of the two singers is concerned, Rafi Saheb himself had once said, " You listen to me, but I listen to Manna Dey". That of course does not make Mannada greater singer than Rafi Saheb, but says a lot about his singing ability. As luck would have it, Mannada became a preferred voice for charachter actors right from 'Ram Rajya' days, and could rarely sing for heroes. except for a few nos. for Raj Kapoor or Dev Sa'ab.
mrokrameshn u e right hinduism never teach fear of god.
Fear of god id negative thought. . well i know rest of religion say about fear of god.
for example if a son dont do anything bad due to fear of his dad , thats a negative aspect.but if he dont do anything because he respect his father, thats a positive aspect.
Heaven: A place of bodily pleasures - Sex, Booze & Gluttony. No qualifications needed. Hit the lottery & u can have it all here on earth.
Moksha: Education, Enlightenment, Knowledge – an Awakening of the Mind & the Heart. To compose music like Mozart, to think like Einstein, write beautiful poetry, to sing like MS, to be like Mother Teresa. It is not begged for nor given, it has to be EARNED!
My favorite songs since childhood. Having lived in the US for 17 yrs now makes me so home sick whenever I hear this song!! Manna Dey has sang it so beautifully, it touches your soul. Great song!!
this song truly depicts the emotions of anyone who is away from their beloved land and the loved ones....u just can't control your tears while listening to the beautiful words and melody
I miss you my land, I miss you my mother, I miss the land where I took my first step and I miss the land, where I wish to take my last breath. I have been crying for the past few hours listening to these beautiful words and tomorrow I will be leaving for India. Ap ek he tamnna hai, ek baar desh pe mar mittu, fir aaram se jiyunga (I want to die for her and will live happily ever after)
technically one of the most difficult songs ever attempted...i challenge any neo age singers to sing this one convincingly......manna dey killed it.......only 2 guys that i know can even think to attempt it today shankar mahadevan and sonu nigam...but still they also say they cant match up to hemant da on this one....
Very touching song. One between the two ever best songs. The other one A mere vatan ke logo by Sur Samragyi Sur Kokila Lata Mangeshkar. Hope nobody on this earth will dislike this song. Truly said. India is Great. This becomes true by such quotes.
i miss u, i miss u, i miss u in life some memories like - pathaar pe lakiro ki jaise hoti hai ki pathhar tut jate hai magar lakire nahii... miss u a lot, tum jahabhi raho hamare dil me sada ke liye rahoge.

The lyrics are probably based on a poem penned by Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal emperor, while in exile in Burma. He was thinking of his country which included India, Pakistan & Afghanistan at that time.
Very emotional song. Would like to sing along but gvoice gets all choked up everytime!
The Urdu used during Bahador Shah's time was much more ornate and sounded very different from colloquial Hindustani in which this song has been composed. The song is, most definitely, a 20th century composition tailor made for Tagore's Kaboliwalah.
it doesnt matter which country its about..but the most important thing is the feelings attached to ones country..it shows the love for their motherland..whether its afghanistan or pakistan or india..every country for their people is there mother..whether its barren or fertile..so pls ur comment is nt at all praise worthy...
To be fair the guy is singing about his home, Afghanistan, but I guess you could apply to any country, but since he refers to it as a "Bicchre Chaman" It should be a country which has been spoiled, so India does not fit that category.
Also, the time this movie is set in, one could argue that Afghanistan was really part of India but this is definitely debatable. You are right in that he is talking about Kabul.
The Kabuli considers himself to be ina foreign land and is missing his homeland, so it is not at all about India, but as I said before this can apply to anyone's homeland. This beautiful song trescends all political boundaries.
hello ArtHafez, Bichray is not a persian word, its actually hindi. Juda or Judai is the persian synonym for Bichrey.
Also another way to differentiate between persian or hindi words in urdu is to look at the sounds. The sound of last syllable of word bichray does not exist in farsi. :-) just thought id share this info with you.
Only a person with no working knowledge of Farsi would say that 'bichhrey' is a Farsi word. It sounds nothing like Farsi. The aspirated 'chh' sound does not exist in Farsi at all.
'Bichhrey' is a corrupted Hindi form of Sanskrit root 'Virah', which means separation. In Sanskritised Hindi, the original 'Virah' is also used directly.
One of my favorite all time songs. Let's do something for INDIA no matter where we are....agar khoon Hindustani hai to dil bhi Hindustani hi hoga na. JAI HIND!
Story Tagore, music Salil Chowdhari, voice Manna Dey, amazing how many talented people those few generations produced, and now we have a bunch of noisy chipmunks!
This is fact that a Pathan he may live any where in the world he rememeber his soul.He love his birth place and wanted to die there. Long live the Pakhtoons of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
fantastic ! I just love this song and I get all choked up everytime I listen to it. I came searching for this on youtube ( and was 100% sure I would get it here ) becuase I want to sing this, this evening, for a friend of mine who is heading back to his home country, Pakistan. We are a small group of expats here and I thought this would be an ideal occasion to sing and present my friend a song that transcends all other feelings and brings all of us together in a land away from our MOTHERLAND !
If you think about the situation of the song, it is a patriotic song of Afghanistan. Of course, it is generally applicable to whoever absorbs its essence. Lyrics and singer Manna Dey make it infinitely soulful.
chhor kar teri zamin ko door aa pohenche hain hum. Phir bhee hay zehi tammnna tere zarvon ki kasam. Hum jahan peda hue us jagah hi nikle dumm. Wah kia sentiments, just great.
Ae mere pyaare watan, ae mere bichhre chaman, tuj pey dil kurban. Tou hee meri aarzo tou hee meri aabroo, tou hee meri jaan. (1) Tere daaman sey jo aaye, un hawaon ko salam. Choom loon mein us zuban ko jis pey aaye tera naam. Sab sey pyaari subha teri sabh sey rangeen teri shaam, tuj pey dil kurban
(2)Maa ka dil ban kay kabhi seeney sey lag jaata hay too, aur kabhi nanhi see beti ban kay aa jaata hay too. Jitna yaad aata hay mujko utna tarfata hay too, tujpe dil kurban. (you can see 3 paragraph in my earlier comment, hope you like it)
Thanks Sureshji, this song is the loveliest songs ever made. I love singing this whenever there is a social gathering when i visit india. Its been 34 years since I have been living away from my jaan India. Only my body is here in UK but the soul is stil there foreever.
You are right that the actors are remembering kabul. But the words of the song does not refer to kabul or to any country. This song I think can be applied to any person from any nationality who is away from his country.
This is the great song.

The golden lyrics

Thanks for posting this song, I have been looking for this song for a long long time, infact I searched for this video on youtube several months.
Everyone excel in this song, the GULZAR lyrics, Salil Choudhary music and of course the one who made it legend the voice of Manna Dey.
Good Job, remind me of my beloved country INDIA.

Ae mere pyaare watan, ae mere bichhre chaman, tuj pey dil kurban. Tou hee meri aarzo tou hee meri aabroo, tou hee meri jaan. (1) Tere daaman sey jo aaye, un hawaon ko salam. Choom loon mein us zuban ko jis pey aaye tera naam. Sab sey pyaari subha teri sabh sey rangeen teri shaam, tuj pey dil kurban

(2)Maa ka dil ban kay kabhi seeney sey lag jaata hay too, aur kabhi nanhi see beti ban kay aa jaata hay too. Jitna yaad aata hay mujko utna tarfata hay too, tujpe dil kurban. (you can see 3 paragraph in my earlier comment, hope you like it)

You are right that the actors are remembering kabul. But the words of the song does not refer to kabul or to any country. This song I think can be applied to any person from any nationality who is away from his country.
