  • If Lee had any pride he would have only performed this with Eric Tagg --It's not as though Tagg would turn him down! --- But strange things happen in music --- great song and upload though ---- Thanks

  • leyla hathaway

  • I did not know Denzel Washington's in a band. LOL

  • I guess this is my favorite clip on U tube. I keep getting back to it every now and then.. Every time i see it makes me wanna get back straight to LA and enjoy being around such divine talent. Its such a pity that after all this time media never manage to expose this to the mainstream and ignore all the junk that they show us out there..

  • the best version is with phil perry !!

  • Eric Tagg sang this, and he is also a great bass player. NO ONE sang it like him. What happened to him? Anyone know

  • @sheldontunes Well, Eric never played bass- despite what the video for "Is It You" would have you believe...he's actually a keyboard player. I Googled his name recently to see why he avoided the spotlight so much. It turns out that he's a born-again Christian and a pastor somewhere in Texas. He's still into music, but it's Christian music these days.

  • @MyJunior1975 Thanks for the info. I thouught I read he was playing all the instruments on his latest recordings.

  • @sheldontunes Probably, but for the most part, he's always been a keyboard player. Personally, I want to know about what happened to him to make himself become a man of the cloth.

  • Love the song and the all the performers...thank you Lee, Kenya and Grady!

  • one of my favorite jazz song by lee ritenour

  • This is real music. Doesn't exist anymore, unfortunately.

  • @philipandmaxwellfan You got that right

  • @philipandmaxwellfan There is good music like this still out there. You just need to find it. Not necessarily vocal songs, quite a few instrumental pieces, but good nonetheless. For example, Brian Culbertson, Peter White, Steve Cole, Boney James, Steve Oliver, The Rippingtons, Spyro Gyra to name just a few. Check them out and if you like this, I'm sure you will like these. Check them out and let me know. I have many more I can share with you.

  • I keep going back and forth between this version with Kenya and Grady, and the same song done with Phil Perry. These people have it all. What must it be like to be around all this talent? Who cares about politics and reality tv, give me a healty dose of this talent and i'll be complete.

  • Sweeet..

  • I have heard many times that Michael Jackson was the first black person to appear on MTV, but, since this was the 43rd video played on the first day of MTV on August 1, 1981, I suppose that isn't the case.

  • haha idd a lookAlike

Terry Cruz can only play with his balls

  • This is just aweome. Love lee. Anybody know what album this is on so I can add to Rit's royalties?

  • this version of Is It You? is included in Lee Ritenour's Overtime album. But the original version, sung by Eric Tagg, was in Lee Ritenour's Rit album. Both were well played and each has their own charm.

  • Oh cool, thank you! One quick question though, is the album called Rit, or is it Rit's House? Or is the latter a different album?

  • i don't know if Lee Ritenour has album called Rit's House. It must be recent album, right? I do know his album Rit (with Is It You) 1981 I think, and Rit 2 (i think it was 1984. Forgot it was a long time ago).

Rit album cover was Lee standing/ leaning on a red brick wall.

hope this helps. But Rit album is for the original version of Is It You. The video here was from his Overtime album.

  • Rit's House came out 2002

  • foppe71- You have the wrong brotha. Bass player is multi-talented Terry Cruz. He was in the movie "White Chicks" and played a basketball star, opposite Shaun Wayons. Check it out for yourself in the classic dinner scene- he is just as talented in that movie as he is smooth on the bass.

  • Malvin Davis on the bass

  • thanks bro

  • Is that Lee's son singing ?

  • hello... what is the name of the bass player?

  • What a beautiful voice - !!! Oh do I love this song !

  • This vedio is taken from the DVD called "Overtime"

  • Who is the man on the drums...??

  • Oscar Seaton on drums

  • Does someone know if this is in a DVD or something similar?

  • it is - it's called 'Lee Ritenour - Overture' i think.

  • Lovely to the ears...

  • my GF favorite sooooong..

  • perfect guysssss i luv u!!!

  • Finally, a vocalist (or 2) that can do this song justice other than the amazing Eric Tagg. The live version w/ Phil Perry is God Awful!!!

  • Don't know if this was mentioned yet but Grady Harrell is in the R&B vocal group, Brutha.

  • that's actually his son.

  • Yeah, and his name is Grady too.

  • Singers are Kenya Hathaway and Grady Harrell

  • Any kin to Donnie Hathaway?

  • @chessdrummer

Yes, she is Donnie Hathaway's daughter and sister to Laylah hathaway. Her voice is not as strong as Laylah's but she sounds pretty good.

  • And she looks good!

  • awesome song

  • i would love to find a copy of Rit on CD! i had the cassette back in the early 80's when it was practically new!! ;) the funny thing is before i got the tape, when i first heard this song on the radio, i thought it was Earth, Wind & Fire! ha!

  • I have a CD of his greatest hits. It came out in the early '90s w/ lots of great tracks including this one.
