Well, considering libertarian policies haven't really been given a chance for the past century, I don't think we can honestly pass a judgement on their effectiveness in the modern world. I do think we could make a case showing how the increasing role of government has caused numerous unexpected problems (such as the recession we're in right now). So cheers to moderate libertarianism! Social and economic freedom! I've noticed many atheists are also libertarians.
I agree that too much government is certainly a bad thing, but where to draw the line is not a black and white issue often times. I think that a country where free market dogma is given free reign will have big business running things instead of big government. Cuythulu: there was a issue with drilling in territorial waters and Bush had made a very large area in and around Hawaii protected habitat. One of the few bright spots of his administration. The founders tried things with primary power in the states and a weak federal government, but that proved to be an unsuccessful experiment, leading them to abandon the Articles of Confederation in favor of the Constitution we currently have.
I oppose big government, whether it's state or federal level, but I think in a country of 300 million, government has to have a fair amount of power to function properly.

If memory serves correctly, the 3/5th Act was to keep political power out of the slaveholders' hands by making each slave's vote only 3/5 of a vote. So if 5 slaves vote for Candidate A, it's only considered 3 votes. Why was this a good idea? Do you think slaves would vote for a candidate of their choosing? Did it ever occur to you that maybe their use of "new world order" isn't the same as the way you use it? Woodrow Wilson used the term to refer to a new era of political thought and political cooperation post-WWI. He hoped that the League of Nations would help bring war to an end.
Later, after the Cold War, the term was used again, to refer to a new way of doing things politically and internationally. The United Nations was hopefully presented as the reformed and improved League of Nations.

Ugh, the vast majority of people who strongly appose Obama and the Democratic push for socialized medicine are NOT doing it because they're racist, misinformed or stupid. I understand that if we leave our presidents actions unchecked corruption is bound to occur, but what possible motivation could you have for barring your kids from an inspirational speech?

Well, considering libertarian policies haven't really been given a chance for the past century, I don't think we can honestly pass a judgement on their effectiveness in the modern world. I do think we could make a case showing how the increasing role of government has caused numerous unexpected problems (such as the recession we're in right now). So cheers to moderate libertarianism! I think that a country where free market dogma is given free reign will have big business running things instead of big government. Cuythulu: there was a issue with drilling in territorial waters and Bush had made a very large area in and around Hawaii protected habitat. One of the few bright spots of his administration. Hey, I'm for small government too, but I'm not a complete minimalist. The founders tried things with primary power in the states and a weak federal government, but that proved to be an unsuccessful experiment, leading them to abandon the Articles of Confederation in favor of the Constitution we currently have.
I oppose big government, whether it's state or federal level, but I think in a country of 300 million, government has to have a fair amount of power to function properly.

Yeah, I can definitely relate. My deconversion changed my political views a lot too, so much that it kind of scares me to think about it and realize how many other people out there also base their voting history on the bible or the word of their pastor.

Well then, obviously "citizen of the world" and "world citizenship awards" must mean that Obama and Rockefeller are in cahoots! It couldn't just be that generic words like "citizen" and "world" are used often in politics, seeing how every country in the world has citizens. And of course Rockefeller plaza would light up for Obama only if they were conspiring together, because Rockefeller plaza never lights up for major events in American history like that!

i agree people vote with religion as there main reason but for me i vote for how i want my financial system to work and my government and military operations to run. i do have a different view on things as me and the wife own a biz and employ at least a hundred people at each location so we see it from an owner operator view point. if we get taxed more we don't hire people that's just how it works so taxing the rich isn't going to fix everyone's lives.

I stated in the video that I'm not a liberal, except perhaps on social issues. If you think advocating freedom and basic human rights is a bad habit, you shouldn't complain when the Christians come trying to kick you out for being an "unAmerican" atheist.
The Patriot Act was challenged in court and then reauthorized with a lot of Bush's anti-liberty bullshit left out of it.

I'm not dodging any debate I just don't feel like going back and forth on it. Obama did not run on cutting pork. I interned with the campaign and still have all of the paperwork from it. The main reason Obama mentioned the pork was because McCain ran so heavily on it.
Your figure of him signing $90 billion in pork I would love a source for.
For the dems controlling 3 branches of govt. I don't see how adding one judge gives them control of the legislative.
Most likely the bill will pass w/o pubs.

If memory serves correctly, the 3/5th Act was to keep political power out of the slaveholders' hands by making each slave's vote only 3/5 of a vote. So if 5 slaves vote for Candidate A, it's only considered 3 votes. Why was this a good idea? Do you think slaves would vote for a candidate of their choosing? No, they would vote for who their master ordered them to vote for. Their freaking lives potentially depended on it! This act wasn't to instill racism...just balance. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe their use of "new world order" isn't the same as the way you use it? Woodrow Wilson used the term to refer to a new era of political thought and political cooperation post-WWI. He hoped that the League of Nations would help bring war to an end.
Later, after the Cold War, the term was used again, to refer to a new way of doing things politically and internationally. The United Nations was hopefully presented as the reformed and improved League of Nations.

I'm willing to give obama a chance so long as he doesn't force into some government health clinic waiting room for 3 hours next to some fat welfare mother and her misbehaving children just to see a doctor - that's not my doctor. I feel that both sides of the political line are equally good/bad. I always find it funny when I meet someone who says that either the Dems or the Reps are the good guys.
I also thought it was funny to hear people say that they would not allow their child to watch the presidents speech in school because they were afraid of what the president might say. These are the same people that would let their children watch the new Transformers movie.

I just listened to Obama's speech and the republican response on the radio on the way home from work.
The republican response had a character that implied it was written without having first listened to what it's responding to.
This sort of exchange is the primary reason I am no longer a republican: I no longer wanted to be associated with people who are either regularly failing to listen, or are simply lying - because those are the only two options that fit republicans' behavior.

Ugh, the vast majority of people who strongly appose Obama and the Democratic push for socialized medicine are NOT doing it because they're racist, misinformed or stupid. They do it because they feel that it is against the spirit of our country (increased governmental control of the market) and that eventually will lead to single payer system.
I disliked Bush (whom the left often portrayed as a Hitler), and I dislike Obama because of (what I feel) is a Fabian Socialist agenda.

I find a lot of the anti-obama actions completely unjustified. Like the people taking their kids out of school so they wouldn't see an 18 minute inspirational speech. While I personally am not too hot on motivational speeches, I applauded the fact that he put some effort into it. I understand that if we leave our presidents actions unchecked corruption is bound to occur, but what possible motivation could you have for barring your kids from an inspirational speech?

Hallaburton damn sure did it...NONE of them are in jail, and a fair amount of those were actually pardoned from any prosecution prior to Bush leaving office...The simple and disturbing fact here is that much of the criticism of Obama is little more than a guise for paranoia and racism.
