  • Copeland + Summers = great.

Sting = not so great (yes, I'm being diplomatic).

Strange to see E.C. playing with The Police, he was very vocal in his hatred for them back in the 70s / 80s...

  • anyone else think good, but too much drums, and theres no need for another bass player in the back

  • when sting's notes are sour, when other problems arise, just focus on copeland and everything comes up roses

  • don't you have the complete episode?

  • new wave doesn't get old. great!

  • On this episode of Spectacle, Elvis credits the Clash (SPECIFICALLY their cover of "Police & Thieves) for introducing Reggae into the punk/new wave genre and inspiring "Watching the Detectives". Sting then credits Elvis for the fact that the success of "Alison" gave him the confidence to bring "Roxanne" to Copeland and Stewart: type these into youtube search:Sting & Elvis Costello: "Roxanne" & "Alison" & Springsteen, Costello, Little Steven, Dave Grohl & Clash

  • Holy crap Elvis Costello backed by all three members of the Police on one of his most reggae-influenced songs! This was the last thing I expected to see.

  • "Police were important in the grand scheme of pop music, but lyrically there's no comparison...Just listen to Elvis's brilliant wordplay on "Detectives" compared to the " giant steps are what you take" nonsense..lol"

Costello was important in the grand scheme of pop music, but musically there's no comparison...Just listen to The Polices brilliant musicality on "Walking..." compared to watching the detectives nonsense...lol.

  • Give it up for the drummer, cause the drummer is bad!!! Gotta love Copeland just the best, gangly, funny, on time and back in the day.....ow!!

  • Elvis is God!!!! Andy Summers saves the day!

  • A perfect song for The Police to cover!

  • Funny seeing them together playing this, when Elvis use to slag the Police off mercilessly back in the day when it was called "New Wave" ( He famously said " they're pretty, they can play, they make great pop records and I can't fucking stand them!") ...Musically both Costello and Police were important in the grand scheme of pop music, but lyrically there's no comparison...Just listen to Elvis's brilliant wordplay on "Detectives" compared to the " giant steps are what you take" nonsense..lol

  • If Joe Strummer was still with us ( RIPunk), it would've been great to have him on stage with the aforementioned Police and Costello, doing the Clash's" Police and Thieves" or "White Man in Hammersmith Palais" to tie up the reggae/punk influenced rock these guys pioneered back in the late 70s early 80s...Just a thought..( Then again, Strummer hated the Police more than Costello did, so maybe not)

  • Go Andy go! Play that solo!

  • Britich secret?

  • Holy crap! Look at those dudes, they look amazing!... I'm sure there is some Britich secret they all have.. plus there is Sting :-)

  • iTunes has all the episodes for $1.99 each.

It's worth it if your a music fan! Elvis rules!!!

  • sting's bass face haha

    andy's skinnys jeans

    Police are great

  • this is the best

  • Love Sumner's hearing aid...

  • it's called an "in-ear monitor", it's how he hears the other musicians

  • Hm. I notice MacManus also appears to be wearing a fetching pair of "on-eye monitors" (it's how he sees the people in audience). I do thank you for providing the "nomenclature" (it's how you misread comments intended as tongue-in-cheek). What I'd seriously like like to know though, is what you'd call that funny, guitar-shaped thing with the four fat strings? How about a "quatrar"?

  • you should Google "in-ear monitor."

  • Meanwhile, howzabout you "google" "irony"? "Agreed"?

  • Hooray thank you and very much agreed. Let's all Google away, and while we're at it, thank G*d we've not ALL got our "smug-self-satisfaction monitors" on. (It's how we see how dumb we think other people are!)

  • einfach grandios:-)

  • holy crap! wow! :)

  • Cool veteran rockers doing thier thing !!

  • i swear im bringing back the electric organ

  • Que banda te armaste McManus!!!! no lo puedo creer! como suena. Que bueno poder haber estado ahí.

  • hey do you have any more vids from this show??

  • Yeah, Elton John is in the credits as a producer.

  • Do you have the whole show maybe?

  • I caught a few of these shows - Elvis really was a great host and it was brilliant to see him collaborate like this!

  • I saw the programme. At last we can hear someone ask the musicians intelligent questions about their influences. We know their music. It's good to hear them speak. Elvis really listens to them. Great series - more please!!! Someone said that Elton John's company produced them is that so?

  • I agree 100%. Even the commercial promos that feature other artist are good. This is the best music show I've seen. Elvis digs deep. I like he question to the Police" Which song made it apparent that you had something special." I agree, Finally we can hear someone not ask geniuses "so how are the kids?"

  • It's a crying shame that it was shown only at 2 in the morning here in the UK.

Not many people got to see it. Elton John's company produced it apparently, and the Lou Reed interview was amazing. He is normally standoffish but he came across well. I wish more music shows were like that.
