when should i start to pack up my bike and winterize it? it's gets as cold as 50 degrees here in ny. when should i store my battery and stuff? at what tempurature?
I saw the 09 at the bike show this winter... looks really sweet. Digital gauges, sharper looking fairings, rear hugger... you'll love it. It's quick enough, nimble, and overall fun to drive.
not sure about record breaking, but it sure was cold with lots of snow... the last week hasn't been bad though.. we've even had a couple days in the plus temperatures :)
I just put my 650 in my kitchen, and move it around every so often. It will be fine in the warmth for a few months. No biggie, some people go crazy if its out in the shed in the cold.
I know a guy who does the same. In the last cold streak here it got to -40. My car was outside and it froze the battery... drained it to the point where (after letting it thaw out) I needed to boost it. I guess that'd be worst case...
if you do, someone mentioned to me that you need to drive it around for 15-20 mins, otherwise condensation builds up in the engine... he might be right because i remember seeing condensation in the oil window last winter...
It's condensation in the crank, not the fuel tank.
You either need to warm it, dump and change the oil then 'important' turn it over on the starter with HT leads off or similar so that it DOESN'T START, occasionally, keep the battery topped with an 'optimiser charger'.
Short runs WILL create condensation in the crankcases, not good
Nice commentary. That guy that drove in must've thought you were crazy driving around on a bike in that snow (although we know you didn't leave the garage lol)
haha -40 celcius is actually -40 in fahrenheit :)

@rayray71987 put it away when it's too cold to ride. bring the battery inside and put it on a trickle charger.

@SlyRonin what tempurature do you think is too cold to ride? around 30 degrees?
rayray71987 1 year ago
@rayray71987 Yeah, I usually stop riding when it hits freezing or if it snows. Your call though. Whenever it's uncomfortable...
