A moving melody beautifully played. Thanks edward :) It brings back memories of carolling as a child. It troubles me that I enjoy this type of song while realizing it is primarily a tool of indoctrination and religious reinforcement still in use. I'd prefer to erase it entirely from human conciousness as mankind would surely be better without it. But of course that's impossible. Might as well enjoy it as it will likely outlast us all ;) O hear the angels' voices!?!?
I used to sing this one in (Mormon) church and I got teary-eyed. I now realize it was the power of the melody that affected and still affects me. The Holy City is another one. Not too many people have ever heard it sung. My dad, siblings and I played it as a trumpet trio when we were teenagers. The family band still gets together and has grown to 25+ members. Nice rendition of a beautiful French carol, sir. Thanks.
Good evening Edward! Yes, Oh Holy Night is a beautiful song. Even though I reject Christianity, I got to admit, Christians do know how to produce beautiful music. They don't know anything else though, but they can make beautiful music.Even a broken clock gives the correct time twice each day! So, yeas indeed, Christians know how to produce beautiful melodies, even it the lyrics are idiotic! I prefer to listen to instrumental versions of the hymns, without the moronic singing of the lyrics.
As a result of listening to you play a transcription of the 9th Symphony by Beethoven on the piano I have now ordered the others from Amazon. I already have the 5th and 6th by Glenn Gould but always wanted the the 3rd. I wish I could download them from Naxos or Amazon but living in Thailand there are so many restrictions despite it being the internet. Thanks for that lovely music again, as you say a lot of sacred music is wonderful and can be appreciated by anyone whether atheist or religious.
I'm an atheist that also like some aspects of religion: architecture and gregorian chants!! :-)
