Furthermore, due to their amphibious nature Marines embody the roles of "solidier" and "sailor" simultaneously. The word solider is a common noun. However even then the appropriate common noun would be "marine" which is synonymous with "naval infantry." Finally "solidiers" are found in an army, "sailors" and "marines" are found in a navy.
