Tapping the L+R buttons at the map screen when selecting a stage will apparently confuse the game and place you to a different area of the game, most likely ahead. TASes use this bug to fly through the game more quickly.

Pressing Left+Right makes the game load random memory, usually the current coins are the level id to watch.

Then load that level.

This is used in the "fastest TAS" in tasvideos.

Well, I guess technically if you hack or modify the SNES controller to be able to input both left and right buttons at the same time, then it would be possible, but on an unmodified controller with an unmodified console: no way.

What I mean is that the controller itself can't send signals for both right and left, it would just read it as neutral position. That's why even on an emulator you have to enable left+right to make it work.
