please please tell me where you got this version of the song? The album that I have has their live version of this song, but I really wanted to find the studio version somehow and havent been able to. It is an incredible song.
This version is off their first studio recording aptly named Cracker......it has an open can of sardines on the cover and a yellow background. This song (along with the rest of the album) can be found on amazon or you can find copies of it on ebay for like 3 bucks used. Its awesome by the way.
@looshkin66 love that album. friend of mine in h.s. got it and i had a taped copy that i wore out... had to go out and find a cd copy eventually. finally got to see them in concert with camper van beethoven. so much fun. =)
@gilanafaye i saw them a few years ago on new years eve in Portland Oregon! it was sooooooo awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! both seeing camper van AND cracker at the same time literally blew my mind.
Hey sorry, 4 months later lol... I have the new album, (assuming you mean Sunrise in the Land of Milk and Honey,) and love it, although my favorite will always be the self-titled album followed up VERY closely by Kerosene Hat. I am amazed that hardly anyone seems to have discovered this song. It's creepy, the lyrics are wonderful, and deeply poignant, at least to me. Thanks for posting!
@am1688 no problem man, it's one of my most favorite songs in the world. I am extremely surprised that it's not more well known either. The self titled and kerosene hat are my two fav's as well......................
Thanks Tom Waits Radio on Pandora!

I hadn't realised until today how much this song relies on Leadbelly's _Where Did You Sleep Last Night?_.

I fell in love with this song when I heard them sing it at Dancing In The District in Nashville years ago- it's absolutely haunting.

Totally agree, one of my favorites from my favorite band... It's so sinister and full of longing.
