I played my younger brother( who was too young to have heard Sweet before ) all of Sweet's singles .Interestingly his favourites were 'Fox on the Run' , 'Call Me' and 'Sixties Man' ! Brian was definitely my favourite so all of my choices would be from his time in the group. For the record (no pun intended) ,Steve Priest has stated that he hated this song !
I think Starship nicked the vibe of this song for "We Built This City". Whilst not one of their better known songs, it's definitely far more superior to some of the rubbish that's out these days.
Not sure what Sweet were doing using other people's songs like this one as a single. There are better songs on the album that this is off (Waters Edge) that they wrote themselves.
In a way, resembles the sound, the Sweet with this song presented, that of Styx. Unfortunately, departure has got lost with Brians in whole also the charm in that, what Sweet as a result of his produced. Nevertheless, still today songs like "Sixties man" are very hearing-worth, just with changed sound and not more thus from the guitars certainly like in the 70s. Rockin' greetings from Germany.
without brian it was never gonna last they may have been on a downward slope and brian was his own worst enemy but his vocals were far superior to steves
Is this from Water's Edge (Sweet VI in USA)? I do have it on Sweet Greatest Hits, but I wondered where it came from originally. It's an OK song, but it does sound different from most of their stuff, partly because it wasn't written by Chin-Chapman or the band members. And Sweet was always changing their sound, even when Brian was in the group.
I don't agree, Sweet has always adapted to new styles during the 70's and this is just another style of them. Song is fine, lyrics are nice. I like it.... but I'm a die hard Sweet fan

I think this is a brilliant song!! Sure they were better when Brian was in the band.. but I think Steve is a great great singer! And that he pulls this one right off!
Steve singt alleine wie traurig aber ich weiss auch warum, die band The Sweet hatten sich 1979 -80, getrennt wegen streit und agressive äußerungen ist das eine info für sweet fans,,,, alle Kommentare bitte nach mir hin ,ok.
:) my comment wasn't a question, but thanx anyway :) I have the complete discography of The Sweet including all albums without Brian. However this kind of music was not the rock, not the one The Sweet used to play, no matter how Steve is great singer. The reference is "No you don't". This sound is lost in synthetic pop. It was fun, though, in the 80's :)
Steve sure is a creepy looking guy...

I like them better when they're playing metal.

@BigSCTVfan they don't play metal...

If songs like "Windy City" and "Set Me Free" weren't metal, then what was back then?

omg... never heard this before and I toured Germany and the rest of Europe with Andy and Mick several times in the early 90s.
... when mal, jeff and steve mann were on the band.
has a very LA 80s thing going on... sort of TOTO meets Journey and Mick's drumming and drums sounded great.
I think that if it had a different title it would possibly been a hit

probably the best they ever did, this performance left no questions behind, this tune is sad, true, and big storytelling at the same time,

80's killed the rock. Andy was "saving fingers and the guitars" and employed Gary Moberly on sinth! Not disco, not pop ... what was this?!

it's new wave/rock
