the dark tower is an amazing series. Beats lotr, and harry potter out of the water book wise. In movie wise i stll think lotr would beat dark tower though. Harry potter wouldnt beat anyone though. Shit movies, shit books.
@pongkong1337 only thing is is dark tower is something so unbelievably impossible, that the movie might not make it feel real enough. I just hope it doesnt do that.
His memoir/autobiography/writing guide "Stephen King On Writing" is one of the most illuminating and helpful reference books I've ever read. He really knows his stuff and it's an awesome book!
yea, I hope when all is said and done he's not seen as just a horror writer considering he also did Shawshank, Green Mile, Hearts in Atlantis, and many others not to mention the Dark Tower series
Although I have read a few of the books someone loaned me the audiobook of one done by George Guidell and wow! I would rather listen to a well done voice acted audiobook than watch tv these days.
might wanna get "everythings eventual" once you are done for the short "little sisters of eluria" and the short on the breaker dinkie in the self titled.
Hearts in Atlantis is worth a read too once you finish. You will see then.
@densomtarhanhar I'm finishing 5 right now and my minds still blown. Sooo good. People say the series goes down hill after 4 but can't see it ever getting "mediocre". Mind you, 4 is my favorite book of all time so at this rate nothing will ever compare. Long days and pleasant nights!
It really irritates me to hear people calling King a hack. He has always had one hellacious imagination and I love his conversational narration style. Friends and Neighbors.. Sports Fans... it's all very chummy and highly amusing when the subject of discussion (as it often is) is something very dark, cynical, and/or ironic.
I was unfortunate enough to see the movie they made of The Stand, and have since had no compunction to go and read the book... However: I have read a LOT of King books (including the Dark Tower series which is absolutely fantastic), andthe Bachman books, and he is an AWESOME author.
I would love to talk with this man. i would probably bore him to death with my questions but i have so many things to ask and thank him for. The Stand is the best book i ever read!
I love this guy. He's so cool. I admire him in everything he does. Reading and writing are two of some of my most favorite things in the whole world and Stephen King is the reason why I've loved it more than any other time I've read or written anything. I used to read from other writers, but now Stephen King is inspiring me more and more every time I pick up a novel of his. I read a little excerpt from his new, upcoming novel "Under the Dome" and I adored it. It was awesome. Stephen King is #1!!
I have to disagree. I've read all his best novels and all his short stories. I love both, but novels are where his is best at in my opinion. Have your read the short story "the man in the black suit"? AMAZING.
I love Stephen King. He seems like such a sweet guy and obviously feels very blessed to have his wife and kids. I think it's really cool to see somebody who has so much talent giving that much appreciation to those around him, when he could've just taken all the glory for himself.I love alot of his work, It has it's problems, just like any other writers work does, but absolutely nobody could replicate or replace him. That's what you call original - there's nobody like him.
how does he not already have a Star on the walk of fame? Its not just for stars, its also directors, screenplay, musicians.... he should totally deserve one! and a lifetime achievement award!
IT was my first SK book, after that The Dead Zone next Different Seasons....now its history....im now a constant reader of SK books for more than 20 years. SK please do not stop writing.

The dark tower is something that cant be explained to someone who hasnt read it, its beyond simple explaination, its the best story ive ever read in my life. Its this generation's lord of the rings. The first book might throw you but when you've read the rest you will go back to that first one and it will become your favourite.
I got the chills before writing this! It is awesome! The first if you don't like it, don't give up on it, it gets better as it goes, culminating in the rose. Wow that rhymed...
"The man in black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed." That right there gives me chills. Look at the Marvel adaptation of the series, the art and colors within are absolutely stunning and beautiful.
Can't decide on my stance on them. The first books are truly awesome, the latter (didn't read the last one yet) not so much, and he does something which I absolutely hate... he includes himself in the stories (think "famous horror writer who just happens to be named Stephen King"). They're still not bad though.
what writer out there could write such diverse books as misery, the running man and hearts in atlantis?! I hope when he dies hes buried in an indian burial ground, so he can come back and produce more
This guy believes in a talking snake and the earth is flat, and thinks surpopulation, Global Warming, DNA and evolution are myths but still The Long Walk is one of the greatest book in history, along with others from Houellebecq, Bukowski, Orwell, Camus.
...The Hell? What are you babbling about? I don't think you've described him at all! And I've only heard of Orwell before, the rest of the guys you mention draw a blank.
King is an amazing writer, he deserved that award. I read all his books still, over and over. And people should'nt just tie him down to horror, I mean look at the Shawshank Redemption!! That wasnt horror and it was amazing

He has referred to such people as "book snobs," which seems to indicate a certain degree of resentment on his part. I doubt that he's the happy-go-lucky guy that you're trying to say he is...

I love his sense of humour. He's very funny and quick witted. There is something so romantic about him...like when I am reading one of his books I always feel like he is personally reading it to me.
He was a teacher/lecturer and had some down days too before he hit the big time- very very good to hear him speak so openly and so confidently- I find people like him brighten up my day as they see the good and the realism in life!!
He is a grounded man- he is right- it takes courage to tell another person you care about ' you have to change'
I like this man!! This is the kind of man I will marry- someone who is fun, positive, proud to be with his wife- and who has direction!!!He is so so funny- ha ha he makes me laugh with his comments- great great writer- I find him very inspirational-!!It is true what he says about writers or writing!!
The Dark Tower series is amazing. A true epic, spanning so many genres; beyond compare, friends. Some people didn't enjoy the final three volumes, but I thought they were brilliant. The final novel was magnificent; emotionally devastating and with such a wide scope it is impossible to contrast it with any thing else in modern fiction.
Personally I love ALL his books. It would be hard to choose a favorite although The Stand was truly an epic adventure. The Green Mile is probably my favorite and the movie was perfect. But you know what I look forward to most when waiting for the next King novel to come out? "Dear Constant Reader". It's like getting getting a letter from a long lost friend.
He is the best writer ever, no doubt. I'm reading The Shining right now. I must say, it's one of the best books ever written. IT'S FANTASTIC! Thank you Stephen for existing, love you man! Too bad I live in Sweden and not in the US, because he'll probably never go to Sweden and sign books...:( And travelling to USA is way too expensive... Love you Stephen :)

I'm reading The Stand right now. One of the best books ever written. Stephen King is the best writer ever, no doubt.

Hey, I never implied that I was all-knowing on the subject of Modern Lit.
I know how to read & I know how to "spell." lol. that's good enough for me.
Dean Koontz is very good, I have not read Patterson yet or Steel.
