  • what did they use to raise it out of the water.

  • Raising the titanic is possible if done with extreme caution, however the two parts would likely not make it to the surface. They have been sitting at the bottom of the ocean for 100 years now that they are very corroded and its hull is breaking down at a rapid rate.

  • @Hisakata456 Say it is possible. Should a gravesite really be disturbed in such a way? Respect for those who perished should be the priority.

  • @cscboulder11 No it should not be disturbed. it is a gravesite for many people.

  • 3 people failed to raise the titanic.

  • the Titanic broke in half when she went down and its proven also

  • @dfoster824 Ya, because they were found a mile apart.

  • fake but looks cool

  • I know its pretty much impossible, but I would just love to see something like this happen. I could see a breaking news bulletin right now on the news channel saying the Titanic is being risen, which then cuts to a live video of the Titanic rising again.

    Would be awe inspiring.

  • They were fools! even the paint is perfect ahahahhaha

  • Its amazing that some people believed the ship would be in this good condition.

  • Better late than never.

  • Ive got to say they done a bloody good job on that film, the ship looks awesome and is pretty accurate, apart from the two tall vents next to the foremast. You cant beat effects done properly with a model and not all this cgi crap. You cant hold it against the film makers about the ship not being broken in two as they didnt know that when the film was made.

  • I remember watching this movie... It was before they discovered the Titanic for real, and found that is was in 2 pieces...or maybey more....All they had to go on was from what survivors saw at the surface as she was going down, they could not have known about any underwater damage or about the ship breaking apart below sealevel!!! It was an awesome movie at the time!!! watched it a few times!!!

  • Very interesting...despite the ship not going down in one piece. but still very cool.

  • enormous scale of the water compared to the ship is what gave it away

  • 1:17...titanic didnt hade supporting masts ;-)

  • a se isso fosse de verdade! queria q as pessoas tbm resusitase mas mesmo assim ela ja teriam morrido!

  • OMG giant submarine!!!!

  • They should have known it was broken in half from eye witnesses telling their stories.

  • With there being no audio score to this, Pause exactly at 1:20. Open a New tab.

Search Braveheart theme. this song goes perfect!

  • fake!!!!

  • @22kurtfan22 - Obvisouly, it's from a film

  • @22kurtfan22 slow much

  • I'm gonna take this clip to a scoring contest !!!

  • is it sooo difficult to raise the 2 parts of the ship now? last thoughts were made in 1980's. technology has advanced so much since then! make a titanic museum... and have the 2 pieces on a large (huge! i mean) display! in order not to break it apart, its wise to, a) scoop it out with the ocean floor and b) raise it using compressed air in air tanks that would rise up to the cerface. we didnt have this technology in the 80's. but now we do!

  • @180TheDragon 2 problems with that idea, 1. the ship has been ravaged by iron eating bacteria so any attempts to move the ship would most likely end in the ship collapsing. 2. this was where 1500 people died, it is now their grave. Many years ago I would have agreed with your decision, however now that we have the technology we simply dont have enough of Titanic's time left to raise her.

  • @180TheDragon You're CLEARLY using your brain the wrong way, the only thing holding the ship together is the water pressure, the stern is totally destroyed, Titanic is a grave to 1500 people, it'd be lovely to raise her, but iron eating bacteria, as Doomsday has described, has eaten away at her, and the ship'd collapse if we tried. Titanic is staying at the bottom of the ocean, we can't save her.

  • Excellent novel. Even enjoyed the movie.

  • that gave me the creeps.

  • This is what dreams are made of.

  • if only this could happen

  • thats actually pretty realistic looking...gave me goose bumps.

  • I know that this film was made before they discovered the Titanic on the ocean floor, but the survivors remember the ship breaking in two.

  • @EFFANDJEFF Survivor accounts differed on whether the ship broke apart or went down intact. That's not surprising, considering that they went through something pretty traumatic. And without the wreck, who really knew?

  • @EFFANDJEFF Not all survivors recalled the break-up. Most actually denied it. It was not as obvious as James Cameron portrayed it in his movie. It was somewhat more subtle and concealed by water and darkness.

  • @DCnightcrawler You're right. Hollywood moonlight is unnaturally bright.

  • @EFFANDJEFF Also, many crew members said it went down in one piece, and at this time, people would believe crew over passengers, who would be panic stricken.

  • Why did the movie show a dead body??? -_-

  • The movie was poorly done even the ship is not exactly right.

  • @BronxNYE206St well you have to put into context that this film was made before they made the expidiction to find the ship. they had no previous knowledge of how the ship would look by then they thought it was perfectly intact

  • @scarface12347 Plus the fact that this movie is 31 years old. Technology has advanced just a little bit. =)

  • Nice job!! I read the book and was sadly disappointed when I saw the film. This scene was unbelievable, however.

  • But didn't the Titanic broke apart into two pieces?

  • @SeattleSportsFanic - They made this film 5 years BEFORE they found the real Titanic. They thought the liner was intact.

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 Oh, I didn't realize that part. Thanks for sharing

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 I never heard of this movie before. Did they raise the crew and passengers with it? What happened at the end? another iceberg?

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 but didnt survivers see the ship break in 2

  • @MrNelsonlederer some did...some didn't. it's like with the suicide on board, some thought they heard shot(s) and some don't remember hearing any at all. i guess with all the commotion on the decks with people scattering bout, it would be very hard to take in everything.

  • @MrNelsonlederer Some reported that it broke and some reported that she went down intact. Nobody knew for certain what had happened until the wreck was discovered.

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 man people must've been stupid then because of they didn't listen to survivor reports saying how the titanic broke in half.

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 actually they found the wreck the same year they found the wreck 1985

  • @TheChannel13tv what do you mean, that the book and movie took place in 1985?

  • @Davis4037 book written in 1976 film released in 1980 wreck found in 1985 with the ship being split in half being a big discovery when the book and film were produced everyone believe she had sunk in one peace

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 dont forget that Clive Cussler wrote the book a few years before they turned it into a movie

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 that and the film is based on a book written in 1976

  • @SeattleSportsFanic all you need is some duck tape. anything can be fixed with ducktape

  • @SeattleSportsFanic ye it did they never showed pictures of the other half of it

  • i want to know how they rasied it.

  • @RCT3rox I watched this film before... They put some type of floaties :P or something to make the Ship float.

  • @Romerjon17 In the movie, they first patched over the hull damage, shot in some epoxy foam to force water out of her watertight compartments, and then finally activated the hydrazine gas generators attached to the hull just before using some explosives to rock her loose and get her moving. It looked pretty believable at the time.

  • I appreciate Lew Grades comment that it would have been cheaper to lower the atlantic but this is still a stunning shot. And thanks to the film which I did enjoy, I disovered Clive Cussler and Dirk Pitt.

  • Now what's I want I want to see in real life.Too bad Titanic's too fragile, plus she's torn in half.

  • I don't know about anyone else, but to me it was a sad day when they actually found her. All the mystery was gone at that point.

  • @Countryboy830 - I understand where you are coming from. The story surrounding the ship had a air of mystique which vanished when the ship was found.

  • The detail work on that miniature is incredible. I miss model-making like this.

  • i in some way hope that someday this will actually happen

  • if they could just raise ships that size off the ocean floor and back to the surface it might take a rwrong turn i mean raising a sunken cruise ship could bring no harm except maybe some bad memories ( sorry if im wrong about that ) but if they would do this with a wrong ship it might create havoc example: immagine them raising the bismarck fromt he depths and and making it a display piece or restoring it for use that could turn out pretty bad bud i must confess i would love to see her raised

  • First, thank you for this. Secondly, never underestimate the ignorance of the American citizen. When titanic came out in 97, I saw it at a theater in California. There were two middle-aged women in line behind me. One actually said to her friend, "don't tell me how it ends.".

  • theres no way they can get that ship off the ocean floor. it's too big.

  • how did that do that back the without computers. now adays movie sucks cuz everythings so computerized. takes the fun out of it

  • @brancool88 - Its a large scale model, at 55ft in length.

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 A damn fine model shot too. Some of the cutaways I would've tweaked, and that final master shot looked mostly good, but there's an easy fix to make it totally believable. No CGI could've done this.

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 Seriously.......55ft!!! :-O Star Trek The Motion Picture the model was between 8-10ft i think......jesus thats where the budget went!

  • @TheMakeUpFXDude - That's nothing. The model of the skyscraper in 'The Towering Inferno' was 100ft in height. The stern sinking model of the Titanic from James Camerons "TITANIC" was 60ft in length.

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 wow......back then that model must have been the biggest chunk of the budget gone.....nowadays its all CGI but damn.......but i suppose a larger scale means it looks more realistic in terms of how much detail you can put on the model.

  • @TheMakeUpFXDude - I keep hoping that, one day, someone will do a faithful adaptation of the Clive Cussler novel 'Raise the Titanic'.

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980

I agree but after it flopped will it ever be remade? Teh book far out does the film but they both have their own charm and attractions.

  • @TheMakeUpFXDude

These days model shots are done in CGI if they dont need to be onscreen for long periods of time. Model work is still done as can be seen in the excelent work in lord of the rings.

  • didnt the titanic split in half :P

  • @eckyptang - Yes. . . . .

  • R.I.P < to my great uncle who went down with the titanic.

  • hey in the future we might have cables that attatch underneath the ship to pull it up without disintergration sorry for spelling :P

  • @TheLamaguy89 That's impossible, I wish it was true, but unfortunately She's been under there to long, shes very delicate, sooner or later scientists say she's the full front half of her is going to smash, she can't hold together much longer, she's falling apart more than that dreadful night.. .. ;\

  • @starcraftflyer17 I guess your right :*(. Mbaybe they might bring back white star line and maybe Titanic 2?

  • @TheLamaguy89 white star has merged with Cunard (i think)

  • this will never be possible ever i wish it was tho

  • I'm taking that footage and reversing it into plunging under by the stern end.

  • somebody just pressed rewind and added a day time back drop to it.

  • Omg! Zombie ship!! Run!

  • @barrown1990 - She was awaiting scrapping.

  • Very well made.. and gosh, She looks like she's only been down there for half a year.

  • If that was real,i would spent my money to buy that ship and rebuild it!!

  • I thought this was great it was almost like watching the real ship rising from the ocean........All you knit pickers need to shut up........They know its not real therefor its not going to be perfect......they were just trying to capture the idea its the thought that counts.......I would like to see one of you douche bags make a better film

  • they made it before titanic was found

  • The only damage to the ship in this movie is the 2nd funnel is gone and in the 1997 movie that is the only funnel that isn't shown falling off lol

  • This film was made 5 years before the Titanic was found. The makers of this movie had no idea what state the titanic was in. They did their best with what little information they had. Over all this movie had a good storyline and it is well made movie.

  • @shaskinmaccom - Also, what people forget is this film is based on the Clive Cussler novel which has the Titanic in one peice.

  • Ssunshine9107----your an idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • This looks so cool! Love this scene, the rest of the movie is shit ...

  • Do the makers of this movie not realize that the Titanic is in pieces...cut in half with a lot of other pieces ripped right off? If you're going to be making a movie about raising the Titanic...at least get it some what correct when it comes to the condition of the ship.

  • @SSunshine9107 - The movie was made over 5 years BEFORE they found the real Titanic.

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 yup... read the book man.

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980

although, even given that nothing was known about the state of the wreck and the effects of long term submersion at such depths, the model could have done with a bit more ageing and broken parts, even if just damage around the broken funnel.

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 i find that they mad the titanic look pretty good (except for the funnels) considering they had not seen the actual ship!

  • @SSunshine9107 this movie was made in like 1981. Robert Ballard found the Titanic in 1985.

    they didn't even know..

  • @SSunshine9107 - Are you stupid or something?

  • @SSunshine9107

They didn't find Titanic until after this film was made. It was popualry believed she was still in one piece

  • @SSunshine9107 Great question! No they did not reallize that because virtually nothing was known about how it sunk when this movie was made. It was not until 1985 that it was discovered/found by Robert Ballard and team who were actually on a then secret mission for the Navy/US Gov''t at the time.

  • @SSunshine9107 The Titanic was found in 1985 - the movie was made in 1980.

  • @SSunshine9107 In the 1980s, they thought it was still in one piece, but without it's funnels. They didn't know back then, where it was, how good condition it was, and what it looked like at the time.

  • how did the funnels came back when they were destroyed?! O_O

  • Didn't the Titanic snap??

  • I am sure theres someone on the deck watch from 3:16 and keep looking /playing / pausing ...maybe its Jack ?

    I know It's a model ... but bloody hell !!!

  • @Scrinthe i think i know which part you mean, that's a member of crew working the water pump

  • this movie was made in 1980 a full 6 years before the real Titanic was found.

and this was hollywoods high tech version of the raising of the titanic as believed to still be in one piece.

  • I love Hollywood, they can't even get the basic design right, the upper bow structure is wrong and I have no idea where they got that forward mast set up from (looks like a 1950's freighter). Until they found her in 1985 I always hoped something like this would happen, I remember the papers speculating before the first dive that she could be shiny like new and in one piece because such depths wouldn't support any life.. oh well

  • @lostthe80s - The bow is correct, it's just those 3 tall vents and solid bulkhead wall on the tips of the bow. To tie-in onboard deck scenes with the ex-Grace Lines liner "ATHINAI", they copied the ships forward bow vents. It would have been easier to have cut the vents off the ATHINAI. It never crossed their minds during filming.

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 I never understood, why they show pictures from the real Titanic at the beginning, but still get parts of the ship wrong. :/

  • @CJCA915 - Hello. The prologue was edited at the last minute, even after filming had finished onboard the liner ATHINAI which stood in for the raised Titanic. That ship had the solid bulkhead and 3 tall cowl vents on her bow. The film crew had them made for the 55ft Titanic model to allow blending in. However, they had not take into account eagle eyed viewers who realise the real ship never had those vents to start with.

  • @RaiseTheTitanic1980 Well, it's a good movie, but it brought in less revenue than they had used to make it. :/

I think they should have a remake, I think it'd be awesome, like with the same soundtrack, etc. Just newer visual effects, and correcting these tiny mistakes, while still maintaining the view that that Titanic had still been in one piece.

Also, I can't seem to find it anywhere, I had to come across it online, is there no Blu-ray version?

  • @CJCA915 They were actually going to use a sequence showing the Titanic sinking in the opening titles but that idea never made it into the film.

  • I want to congratulate you on a good job of editing this sequence. We all know there are flaws to the film, but it's a film. When they made it, they knew little of its condition. Survivors reports conlicted with senior officers, even Jack Thayer first class passenger drew it breaking up, but it had to be hushed up as there were legalities and reputations at stake. This scene is pure fantasy. When the film was made it re-opened dreams of finding it. I remember the audience gasping at this scene.

  • @1912cunard - Thank you '1912cunard. Glad to see tjhose who understand the film, the reasons to why they created the model ship this way.

  • this vid is fucked up its nt even titanic its the sister ship cuz the titainc slite in 2 befor it sink

  • @army20067 - This film was amde in 1980, 5 years BEFORE they found the REAL Titanic.

  • this part clearly shows why it shoulda been sunk- it was ugly!!!

  • yeah it was discovered in 1985, but i'm pretty sure that survivor accounts would have told them that the ship split before sinking.

  • @sweeterthananything - Survivors did state the ship broke apart during sinking, even onboard the rescue ship CARPATHIA. But surviving officers also stated the ship sank from them intact, so it was more common to believe a senior officer than a passenger, who afterall was out to sue the White Star Line.

  • @sweeterthananything yes it did splite but nt fully thay did try 2 raise it bk up but it just broke even more and now the ship is fully in 2 top and bottom ov the ship is about 1 to 2 mile apart at the bottom ov the see

  • This was before anyone saw it underwater. So everyone thought it was all intact.

  • I thought the ship broke in half, and how the poles and everything still there? How are the big steam things at the top of the ship still there? They fell off as well as the ship breaking in half. And when they rose the titanic, it would sink again because of the iceberg cuts and you dont see them in this movie!!!????

  • I so loved this film!

  • 3:15 is that a man bottom left?

  • @EmmaLovelace - Yes, it's a little miniature man working a deck pump. Don't know why it's there because in the film, this part of the film, no one has yet landed on the decks of the ship.

  • wft this was 5 years before the TITANIC sank!!!

  • @domo586 - Made in 1907? Raise the Titanic, before it sank, and decades before Clive Cussler wrote it, and years before he was born.

  • why is it still in one piece

it should be in two pieces

and all the funnels broke off

  • @thelegofankid - Because it's a work of "fiction".

  • @thelegofankid

The original novel was written in 1976 while the movie was released in 1980. The wreckage itself wasn't located until 1984. It was assumed that the ship stayed intact after it sank.

  • @thelegofankid also this film was made i think about two years before the wreck was discovered.

  • how wonderful i´d be if that was possible :-)

  • This scene holds up very well by todays standards. Very moving.

    Thankyou.

  • where is the second funnel???

  • @TheYoshi62 - The story for the film has the 2nd funnel breaking off.

  • All here funnels fell off. Well this is before they found the wreck in 85'

  • cool. I'm reading the book right now and didn't realize it had been made into a movie.

  • @tascott59 - In Cusslers novel she did come up stern first. For the film they decided to have her come up bow first as they felt it not only looked better, but also helped to better the publicity department when selling the film as her bow is more instantly recognisable.

  • I always loved this movie. Richard Jordan is to Dirk Pitt the way Sean Connery is to James Bond, and Anne Archer is cute. This clip just goes to show that sometimes you don't need any actors at all to be moved by a scene. Great video.

  • @chainbluelightning1 - Thank you :O)

  • @chainbluelightning1 I agree. Richard Jordan(R.I.P) to me WAS Dirk Pitt. I believe if they had built a franchise and paid more attention to detail and stuck to the books, it could have been as successful as the Bond films. Considering Clive Cusslers books still sell far more than Ian Flemings Bond books ever sold. Although Richard Jordan wasn't as tall as Pitt, he still conveyed what I always imagined Pitt to be like,

  • LOL :)

  • np bud

  • awesome vid

  • @jedimaster2290 - Thank you :O)

  • its not the titanic .. duh the titanic is broken into half and that is not so that mean it dosent the titanic

  • @MrKyleuriel - It's from the fictional film "Raise The Titanic". Anyone with a ounce of common sense will have spotted it's NOT the "real" Titanic.

  • ye but they made this film before they new it broke in half so dont try and be smart if u dont no what your talking about

  • dude, this is nice but next time leave the music in!

  • That was the "whole" point to this video. Re-edit, re-sampled FX audio. I never had any intentions of putting the music score in, that would defeat the purpose of this video. . . . . However, take a look at my 2010 re-edit which has the newer digital stereo soundtrack.

  • too bad the real titanic wreck is not in that good a condition

  • I never heard of this movie until now, and now it has me curious, after seeing this sequence

  • holy shit I think I saw Leo DiCaprio

  • Amazing to think that's just a model. I always wondered how they managed to make it authentic.

  • i like this cois its cool but there is so much wrong i know this fild was made before they found the wreck but i mean cmon 1. say this was possible its beyond distrespectfull to the ppl who died 2. these ppl are dicks if they think a ship hiting the ocean floor at 30 nots wud ever be able to float again even if it was raised 20 mins after it sank it wud be mangled lol

  • wow, coming to life. beautiful. just wished it were the real thing. i've enjoyed the john barry soundtrack.
