  • Bob Dylan once said this was his number 1 Protest Song of all time. Nuff respect to you Jimmy Cliff. I was blessed to have taken shelter in your Dad's shop at Somerton's (12mile From Montego Bay) cross road with my mother as a young kid while waiting on the country bus.

  • thx for loading.. very nice...

  • According to Wikipedia (article on Jimmy Cliff), Bob Dylan said this was the best protest song he'd ever heard. That is incredibly high praise.

  • @Sunburst7777 it is the best

  • War is a horrible thing. Even when done as a police action to stop the Hitlers of history, the communistic Democratic Republic of Vietnam or any other despot. But wars will not end until the Prince of Peace returns to end it once and for all.

  • Jimmy Cliff never fails us!! Good on ya' Jimmy!! I've still got this album on cassette tape!!!

  • to all that boys fighting in afhganistan right now.. come back soon.. and well...

  • Finally, someone who knows Viet Nam is TWO words :D

  • @AnimalCrossingDoof thank you for writing this. I didn't know it either XD

  • @leckerxchan1 Lol, it's a fact

    :D

  • This song still makes me want to cry, especially thinking of the seemingly endless wars that the US insists on waging. Music is truly the international language. Thank you, Jimmy Cliff. May our children see a day without war before our time is through.

  • The world powers have to take to heart to themselves Jimmy Cliff's "Vietnam" - the pladoyer of this song: THROWS THE WEAPONS IN THE GARBAGE!!! PEACE FOR THE WORLD - NOW AND IMMEDIATELY!!! Peaceful greetings from Germany!

  • Great Song about a terrible time in our past.

  • fight the new world order

  • i saw a film yesterday called stop loss, does that really happen? if its not a real war can they still use those rules to make guys do extra tours of duty just because the there is not enough new recruits? if so upgrade it to a real war and use everything in your arsenal to finish it or pull out and keep your lads safe! politicians make me want to vomit! willing to start shit they will never have too face!!

  • A reggae gem by Cliff.

  • what an upbeat song about dead american teenagers.

  • @sindrole that's how they get you!

  • CHANGE THE WORDS TO IRAQ OR AFGANISTAN - USA SCUM SENDING INNOCENT YOUNG LADS TO DIE HAIL THE TALIBAN, AND FOR GOODNESS SAKE HANG TONY BLAIR AND GEORGE BUSH FOR THE MURDER OS INNOCENT CIVILLIANS

  • @scottie0610 "HAIL THE TALIBAN"??? Really??? "SENDING INNOCENT YOUNG LADS TO DIE"??? Are you aware that the draft doesn't exist anymore and the Iraq war was fought entirely by VOLUNTEERS!?!?!? Goddamn dude, If you had even the smallest shred of respect for the volunteers who died in that war, you wouldn't post stupid shit like this. I disagree with war as much as the next guy, but you don't see me spouting ignorance all over the internet for the sake of shock value.

  • @scottie0610 When Cliff sings this song these days, he does include Afganistan, but yourr turn in coming when China runs things 19 nations intimidated from going to the Nobel Peace prizr ceremony- Good luck on your Brave New World

  • should be one written for Iraq..

  • @jatontherun The Black Angels did a cover of this song and made it about Iraq. It's a hidden track on Passover. You should check it out.

  • Such an awesome song

  • fark, thanks for uploading maaaaaan!!!

  • beautiful song!!!!!!

    anti war.

  • The ultimate anti-war song!!

  • Vietnam, Vietnam,

    Afghanistan, Afghanistan

    Iraq, Iraq,...

    They´ve learned nothing...

  • Jimmy Cliff Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee in 2010, where he belongs!

  • with the human population tripling in the last century alone the weak's time is about up. a bit like you all having your touchy warm fuzzy feelings in nth Vietnam in the mid 60s.

  • they should have play this when the son of gun of bush was president!!! a very powerfull song, with a powerfull rhythm!!!

  • Make Love, Not War

  • Man, your words are mine! Greetings from your brazilian friend.

    Danilo

  • hmmmm, nixon? kissinger? wonder how they liked this song?

  • "They didn't even really get mean near the end."

    shut the FUCK up!!!1111!!!!!!!!11!

  • Nam is a scary reminder of the military might of the US. If they truly want they can destroy nearly any military opposition. They didn't even really get mean near the end. Thank god for PR in today's culture, I mean imagine if they occupied the middle east without worry of news reporters, like the old wars.

  • Why are you Septic Tanks so obsessed with 'Nam'. Get over it and get a life!

  • You sure showed me KJRolling. I'm really obsessed, so insanely obsessed that when I see a song about Vietnam I make a comment about Vietnam. Oooboy, I sure wish I could stop obsessing over it and get on with my life... You fucking retard

  • KJRolling is an atard! Higher form of retardation!

  • I agree...it's a curious thing...what is really going on??? all we can do is work and feed the machine and see what happens...

  • What about the recently released (by our government) documents and tapes stating that the Gulf of Tonken was a staged (or false flag) event under the direction of Johnson? Military might, give you any pause for consideration in light of that? Love that Constitution, it may not be around (even as a symbol) much longer! That great and mighty Military of ours, could be a part of that! Hope they never get "mean" at home! "Like the old wars."

  • Don't know how you write such a catchy song about a depressing thing, but it sure takes talent. Great job, Jimmy.

  • Vietnam wasn't the darkest hour, that was post Pearl Harbor. Nam was just an ugly quagmire, but we did manage to extricate ourselves.

  • atleast in ww2 we fought a common enemy there was a clear good and evil atleast to the american public, thus all the support for the war.

vietnam was very different and we rushed into it under false pretences set fourth by the us goverment.

    we were lied to.

  • vietnam...the darkest hour in american history/// a veteran

  • My respects to you...

  • Such a happy beat, sad song, my godmother told me that the lyrics to this are pretty much exactly what happened to her brother when he was fighting in Vietnam.

    5/5

  • sad song

  • Was also featured in DC Cab, one of the great 80's movies of all time!

  • Great song. Great memories. I believe he wrote it way back then as a protest against the war, yet in Saigon I can remember dancing to it with a very pretty air force nurse!! We just cared about the beat. (and getting back to the world)

  • tunnne

  • a treat! thanks for posting

  • mug can sing though, too!\
