The gear knob is attached to the gear lever with a metal ring. You'll find it on the bottom of gear knob under the gaiter. You should unbend it using any screwdriver and once it's loose all the gear knob with the gaiter will come off. When fitting back you need to use any pliers to tight the ring back on the gear lever. I hope that helped :)

how do you take the gear knob off in the first place? i dont want to break it but its stiff as hell

@reevesyy some of them you screw off. other it's hold down with a plastic of metal clip. usualy under the cover..
